Beveragino

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

Beveragino is the dinner a Muskoka evening gets planned around. Port Carling runs for most of the year on casual cottage-country food, and this Mediterranean dining room on Joseph Street sets itself against that grain: a full bar, a wine list with real reach, a lower patio a few steps from the water, and a kitchen cooking lamb, seafood, and pasta at occasion scale. Visitors reserve it ahead, and locals save it for the night that is meant to matter.

The menu reads Mediterranean without leaning on any single country. Grilled Canadian lamb chops come infused with mustard and fresh herbs, plated with roasted peppers and chimichurri. Spicy steamed mussels arrive in a tequila-spiked marinara with garlic, leeks, and parsley, house-made focaccia set alongside to work the bowl. Braised octopus is cooked down with potatoes, olives, cherry tomatoes, garlic, and spinach. Starters lean into the same range — a roasted eggplant dip brightened with paprika, lemon, and chili on crunchy tortilla, a Mediterranean salad of cherry tomatoes, cucumber, feta, and olives in a cucumber vinaigrette. From there the kitchen climbs into occasion territory: a Canadian lobster tail in lemon butter with capers and herbs, a lobster-tail risotto, duck confit over braised red cabbage and a white-bean purée finished with chocolate-cherry sauce, and linguini con gamberi e polpo — shrimp and octopus in a rosé sauce with olives and parsley. Even the burger is built up, AAA Canadian beef stacked with caramelized onion, pancetta, and chunky potato wedges.

That range points to a kitchen with a point of view rather than a resort-town crowd-pleaser. The Mediterranean framing is the throughline, but the plates are composed — saffron risotto under a roast chicken thigh, a creamy paprika sauce, cannellini beans and feta worked into the house salad — the work of a cook thinking about balance, not just volume. The sourcing stays close to home even as the cooking travels: Canadian lamb, Canadian mussels, Ontario beef, Mediterranean technique applied to what the country supplies. The bar backs it up. Cocktails run through the menu, and the wine list pulls by the glass and the bottle from Ontario, Italy, France, Spain, Argentina, Lebanon, and California, wide enough to carry a table from an aperitivo through a long dinner.

The kitchen is led by executive chef Nicolas Rahnama, with Matthew Fallavollita as general manager and sous chef. Beveragino opened in 2022, and the current menu is a clear step past its earlier, lighter form — the lobster, the duck confit, the octopus, and the composed pastas are recent additions, the marks of a kitchen that has grown into its ambitions rather than coasted on the view. Beyond those two names the record stays quiet, and the restaurant lets the food and the setting speak for it.

The way the visit is built matters as much as what lands on the plate. Dinner runs Thursday through Sunday in season, and the lower patio, with its view of the water, is the seat most people are after when they book. Reservations are the norm rather than the exception; this is dining planned in advance, not stumbled into on a walk through the village. In peak summer the tables go fast, and the patio in particular is worth planning around. Cocktails and the wine list stretch the evening, gluten-free options widen the table, and the format suits a small celebration as easily as a quiet two-top. The price runs high, and what it buys is the completeness of the evening rather than any single course.

Port Carling empties out when the season turns, but through the summer it fills, and Beveragino is one of the places the village plans an evening around. The Mediterranean menu, the wine reaching from Ontario to Lebanon, the cocktails, the water off the patio — it adds up to a dinner with somewhere to be, in a town where most meals are built for speed. On a July night the lower patio books out first, lamb chops on the table and the lake going dark past the railing while the wine list does its slow work through a long dinner.

Three things this kitchen does the rest don’t

  1. 01

    Mediterranean Dinner Range

The current menu gives Beveragino a usable spread across lamb, mussels, octopus, lobster, risotto, pasta, salads, burger, chicken, and duck, which supports a full dinner group rather than a single-dish visit.

  2. 02

    Patio and Port Carling Setting

Patio and waterfront-context signals make the location part of the decision for Muskoka diners, especially when the meal is planned around outdoor seating rather than only the dining room.

  3. 03

    Wine, Cocktails, and Reservations

Separate beverage and reservation evidence supports a planned full-service meal, giving guests a clear path for date night, visiting friends, or a dinner that needs a stronger sense of occasion.
