Bracebridge sits near the centre of Muskoka's cottage country, and the restaurant reads as much like a destination for a weekend up north as a weeknight option for the people who live there year-round. Indoors, the dining room is casual and comfortable rather than white-tablecloth formal; outdoors, the patio is the seasonal draw, and it fills through the warm months once Muskoka's short summer arrives. Reservations matter more here than they would at a purely indoor pasta stop, because the seats with the water in front of them are the ones people book for. It is an Italian kitchen handed a river view, cooking like the view is not the only reason to come.

What makes the visit easy to plan is the practical work around the food. The restaurant takes online reservations and online orders, runs a daily Happy Hour from 3 to 5 p.m., and keeps a lunch-friendly line of handhelds — mortadella focaccia, an Italian steak sandwich, a chicken parmesan sandwich, a double smash burger — for a lighter midday stop. Dinner service runs Wednesday through Saturday, and Sunday trades dinner for a late-morning brunch that gives the room a second kind of day.
