Terms of Service
Welcome to Restaurantica. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Restaurantica website (the "Site"), operated by PointForm, Inc., an Ontario corporation ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Acceptance of Terms
By accessing, browsing, or using Restaurantica, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. These Terms apply to all visitors, readers, diners, restaurant owners, and other users of the Site. Your continued use of the Site following any changes to these Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.
Eligibility
The Site is intended for individuals who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence. By using the Site, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. If you are under the age of majority, you may use the Site only under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. Creating an account and submitting User Content require that you have reached the age of majority in your jurisdiction. The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children; see our Privacy Policy.
Description of Service
Restaurantica is a Canadian restaurant-discovery and editorial platform designed to help people find and enjoy great places to eat across Canada. Our services include:
- Editorial content — original, magazine-style coverage of restaurants, neighbourhoods, dishes, and dining culture across Canadian cities and towns
- Restaurant listings — structured profiles of restaurants, which may include location, hours, contact details, cuisine, price range, signature dishes, and specials
- Neighbourhood and city guides — curated guides to local dining districts and the places worth knowing in them
- Discovery tools — features that help you browse, search, and save restaurants and dishes, including dish-level and neighbourhood discovery
- Community features — accounts that let you save lists, write reviews, vote on dishes and menu tags, add restaurants, and follow other diners
- Restaurant tools — features that allow restaurant owners and managers to claim their listing, submit menu and information updates, and highlight specials and signature dishes
All editorial content on the Site is intended for general informational purposes only.
Restaurant Listings and Information
Restaurantica compiles restaurant information from a range of sources, including public information, restaurant owners, and our editorial research. We make reasonable efforts to keep listings accurate, but details such as hours, pricing, menus, availability, dietary options, and contact information change frequently and may be incomplete or out of date.
- Verify before you go. We strongly encourage you to confirm important details — including hours, reservations, pricing, and menu availability — directly with the restaurant before visiting.
- Allergens and dietary needs. Menu descriptions, ingredient information, and dietary or allergen labels on the Site are provided for general guidance only. If you have a food allergy, intolerance, or specific dietary requirement, you must confirm details directly with the restaurant. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any allergen or dietary information.
- No endorsement or guarantee. A restaurant's inclusion on the Site, or the presence of editorial coverage about it, is not a guarantee of the quality, safety, service, or food at that establishment. Your dining decisions and any transactions with a restaurant are solely between you and that restaurant.
Editorial Assessments, Scores, and Rankings Are Opinion
Restaurantica publishes editorial assessments of restaurants — including narrative overviews, playbooks, key strengths, structured scores (such as uniqueness, value, food quality, local reputation, and popularity), dish tiers, rankings, "best of" collections, "hidden gem" and similar designations, and other characterizations.
These assessments are our editorial opinions. They are arrived at through our editorial process and our analysis of publicly available information, together with community signals such as diner votes and menu tags. They are statements of opinion, not statements of verifiable fact, and they reflect our honest assessment at the time of publication. Reasonable people may disagree with them.
Scores, tiers, rankings, and inclusion (or absence) are provided to help you decide where to eat. They are not a guarantee of quality, safety, or any particular experience, and a restaurant's score, ranking, or inclusion is not a statement that it is "good" or "bad" in any absolute sense. We do not publish exact formulas or weightings, and assessments may change over time as information and community input evolve.
Editorial Independence and Commercial Relationships
Restaurantica's editorial coverage is independent of our commercial relationships. This is a foundational principle, not a qualified one.
- Editorial is independent. Restaurants cannot pay for editorial coverage, for a more favourable write-up, or for a better editorial assessment. Whether and how we cover a restaurant is an editorial decision.
- Advertising and paid placement are labelled. The Site displays advertising, and we may offer paid placement, priority inclusion, or enhanced listings. Anything paid is identified as such and kept distinct from our editorial content.
- Affiliate links. Some links on the Site — for example, links to make a reservation or place an order through a third-party partner — may be affiliate links. When you use these links and complete a booking or purchase, we may earn a commission or referral fee at no additional cost to you. These relationships do not influence our editorial coverage.
- Claiming a listing. Claiming or updating a restaurant listing does not buy editorial coverage or influence how we cover a restaurant.
For more detail, see our Editorial Standards and How Restaurantica Works pages.
Intellectual Property
All content on Restaurantica, including but not limited to text, graphics, images, logos, illustrations, data compilations, software, and the overall design and arrangement of the Site, is the property of PointForm, Inc. or its content suppliers and is protected by Canadian and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not, without our prior written permission:
- Reproduce, distribute, or republish any content from the Site, in whole or in part
- Modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on Site content
- Use Site content for any commercial purpose
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract content or listings from the Site
You may share links to our content and quote brief excerpts for personal, non-commercial purposes with proper attribution to Restaurantica, provided such use constitutes fair dealing under Canadian copyright law.
User-Submitted Content
Some features of the Site allow users to contribute content — including reviews, ratings, votes, menu tags, lists, photos, profile information, added restaurants, and, for restaurant owners and managers, menu details, hours, specials, corrections, and suggestions ("User Content"). Community content such as reviews and votes reflects the views of the users who submit it, not Restaurantica's editorial position. By submitting User Content, you:
- Represent that you have the right to submit it and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party or violate any law.
- Grant us a licence. You grant PointForm, Inc. a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to host, store, use, reproduce, modify and adapt (for example, to resize or reformat), publish, translate, and display the User Content in connection with operating, improving, and promoting the Site and our services — including through our service providers, such as hosting and content-delivery providers. This licence continues for as long as your User Content remains on the Site. If you or we remove your User Content, the licence for public display ends, except that (i) we may retain and continue to use copies that form part of aggregated or de-identified data, and (ii) we may keep archival or back-up copies as needed for legal, security, or record-keeping purposes.
- Moral rights. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you waive, and agree not to assert, any moral rights you may have in your User Content (such as rights of attribution and integrity) in connection with our permitted uses under the licence above. Where such rights cannot be waived, you consent to our use of the User Content as described in these Terms.
- Photos and images. If you submit photographs or other images, you represent that you own them or have the necessary rights and permissions to submit them, that our use of them will not infringe anyone's rights, and that you have obtained any consent required from people who are identifiable in them. Do not submit images you do not have the right to share.
- Acknowledge editorial discretion. We are not obligated to publish, retain, or display any User Content, and we may review, edit, decline, or remove submissions at our discretion. Submitting information about a restaurant does not guarantee editorial coverage of that restaurant.
- Agree to accuracy. You agree that any information you submit is accurate and current to the best of your knowledge.
Community Content, Reviews, and Photos
Restaurantica's community features let diners contribute reviews, ratings, votes, menu tags, photos, and lists ("Community Content"). Community Content reflects the views and experiences of the individual users who submit it — not the views or editorial position of Restaurantica. To keep these features useful and fair, you agree to the following whenever you contribute Community Content.
Your reviews and ratings must be genuine. You agree that:
- Your review reflects your own honest, first-hand experience as a customer of the restaurant.
- You will not post reviews or ratings for a business you own, operate, work for, or are otherwise affiliated with, or for a competitor, and you will not post on someone else's behalf in exchange for payment or other incentive.
- You will not post fake, fraudulent, deceptive, or bought reviews, or attempt to manipulate a restaurant's ratings, scores, tags, or ranking — including through duplicate or multiple accounts, coordinated activity, automated tools, or incentivized voting.
- You will describe things accurately and distinguish your opinions (which you are free to share) from factual claims. If you assert a specific factual matter — for example, a food-safety concern, an illness, a health-code issue, or misconduct — you must have a genuine, good-faith, first-hand basis for it and describe it truthfully and fairly.
Content that is not allowed. You will not submit Community Content that is unlawful, defamatory, knowingly false, harassing, threatening, hateful, obscene, or that invades another person's privacy. Do not target, name, or harass individual staff members; do not include other people's personal information; and do not post spam, advertising, or promotional material.
Review, screening, and moderation. Reviews and photos may be reviewed before they appear on the Site, and we may screen, decline, edit, label, or remove Community Content at our discretion. Any such review is to check for compliance with these Terms and our community guidelines — it is not a verification of the accuracy of the content, and publishing Community Content is not an endorsement by Restaurantica or a representation that the content is true. We are not obligated to publish, monitor, or retain any Community Content. Because Community Content reflects users' own views, you are solely responsible for the Community Content you submit, and you agree that Restaurantica is not responsible or liable for Community Content submitted by you or any other user.
Reporting Content, Disputes, and Copyright Complaints
We want the information on Restaurantica to be accurate and lawful, and we take concerns seriously.
Reporting a concern. If you believe that Community Content or editorial content on the Site is inaccurate, out of date, misleading, defamatory, infringes your rights, or otherwise violates these Terms, please tell us through our Report a Listing or Error page or by emailing us at the address below. Please identify the specific content and page, explain the issue, and — where relevant — provide the correct information or the basis for your concern. When we receive a report, we will review it and, where appropriate, correct, label, remove, or otherwise action the content in accordance with our Editorial Standards. Restaurant owners and managers can also keep their information current through Claim Your Restaurant.
Copyright and intellectual-property complaints. If you are a rights holder and believe that content on the Site (including a user-submitted photo) infringes your copyright or other intellectual-property rights, please contact us with: (i) a description of the work or right you say has been infringed; (ii) the specific URL or location of the material on the Site; (iii) your contact information; and (iv) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized. On receiving a notice, we will review it and take appropriate action, which may include removing or disabling access to the material, and we will handle notices in accordance with applicable Canadian law, including the notice-and-notice regime under the Copyright Act.

- Not submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information, including misrepresenting your authority to manage a restaurant listing
- Not manipulate, or attempt to manipulate, community features — including reviews, ratings, dish votes, menu tags, scores, or rankings — whether through duplicate or multiple accounts, coordinated or inauthentic activity, automated tools, or incentivized submissions
- Not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Site, its servers, or any systems connected to the Site
- Not use the Site in any manner that could disable, overburden, damage, or impair the Site or interfere with any other party's use of the Site

- Not harass, abuse, or harm another person through your use of the Site
We reserve the right to restrict or terminate your access to the Site at our sole discretion if we believe you have violated these Terms.
AI-Assisted Content
Restaurantica uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in the research, drafting, and production of content published on the Site. We believe in transparency about our editorial process:
- AI-assisted research and drafting. Some content on the Site is produced with the assistance of AI technologies, including research summaries and editorial drafts.
- Editorial review. AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by our editorial team before publication. We maintain editorial standards to ensure accuracy, relevance, and quality.
- Not professional advice. Whether produced with or without AI assistance, content on the Site does not constitute professional advice of any kind. See the Disclaimer of Warranties section below.
- Continuous improvement. Content may be updated over time as new information becomes available or as our editorial team identifies opportunities for improvement.
- AI chat assistant. Where we offer an AI-powered chat assistant, it generates responses automatically and may produce information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Do not rely on the chat assistant for decisions where accuracy matters — always confirm hours, availability, pricing, and any allergen, ingredient, or dietary information directly with the restaurant. Your use of the chat assistant is subject to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
We are committed to the responsible use of AI in our editorial process and to maintaining the trust of our readers. For more detail, see our Editorial Standards page.
Disclaimer of Warranties

Restaurant listings and editorial coverage reflect information available to us at the time of publication. Restaurant details, ownership, menus, pricing, hours, and operating status may change at any time, and we make no warranty that any listing is current, complete, or accurate, or that any restaurant remains in operation.
You acknowledge that any reliance on information, content, listings, guides, or recommendations available on the Site is at your own risk. You assume full responsibility for any decisions or actions taken based on the content of the Site.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PointForm, Inc., its directors, officers, employees, affiliates, agents, licensors, and service providers from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:
- Your use of the Site;

We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defence of such claim.

- We are not responsible for any products, services, reservations, orders, or content available through third-party websites, nor for any transactions you conduct with third parties.
No Service Provider Relationship
Restaurantica is a publisher and discovery platform. We do not operate, manage, or have any ownership interest in the restaurants featured or listed on the Site, and we do not provide food, hospitality, reservation, or delivery services ourselves. Any restaurants, businesses, or service providers referenced, listed, or linked to on the Site are independent third parties.
We do not endorse, guarantee, warrant, or assume responsibility for the quality, safety, performance, conduct, licensing, or compliance of any restaurant or third-party service provider. Any engagement or transaction between you and a restaurant or third party is solely between you and that party.

We encourage you to review these Terms periodically to stay informed of any changes. Material changes will be indicated on the Site where practicable.
Termination
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to the Site at any time, for any reason, without notice or liability. This includes, but is not limited to, situations where we believe your conduct violates these Terms, is harmful to other users or the Site, or is otherwise objectionable.
All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to intellectual property provisions, licence grants, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such finding shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions, which shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving the original intent.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.
