Kings Sports Bar and Grill

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

A booth at Kings Sports Bar and Grill comes with more than a menu. On Guelph's north end, off Woodlawn Road, there's a pool table and a dart board within reach, six big screens around the walls, and a projector for when one screen can't hold the crowd. The food is the reason to sit down — wings and burgers, mostly — but the games, the screens, and the live music are what keep the night going long after the plates are cleared.

The kitchen's clearest draw is the wings — breaded or regular, ten or twenty to the order, with a sauce list that runs from Mild and Buffalo through Honey Garlic and Sweet Thai Chili to Ghost Pepper, Garlic Parm, Dry Cajun, and the house Forty Creek BBQ, served with carrots, celery, and ranch or blue cheese. The ten-piece is the safe first order; the twenty-piece is the one for a table that came to stay. The burgers hold a lane of their own: the everyday Burger on an Ace Bakery bun, the Forty Creek Burger finished with cheddar, onion rings, and that same Forty Creek BBQ sauce, and the Kings Burger — three four-ounce patties stacked with cheese and bacon, the menu's biggest build. Around them sits everything a sports bar runs on: Garlic Parm Fries, Poutine and Chicken Poutine, Torpedo Shrimp, one- and two-piece Fish and Chips, pizzas, salads, and a deep rack of chicken wraps.

The range runs wider than the wings suggest. Pizzas come Hawaiian, Canadian, Meat Lovers, and vegetable; the salads cover Greek, Garden, and a bacon-and-parmesan Caesar; and the chicken side stretches from a Wing Dinner and Chicken Fingers to Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Caesar, and Crispy Chicken wraps. Starters keep to the shareable canon — Jalapeno Poppers, Mozzarella Sticks, and Onion Rings built for the middle of the table. There's a lighter lane here for anyone not in the mood for a triple-patty burger, and the whole lineup is available for delivery when the night calls for staying in.

Put it together and a clear idea of the place emerges. Kings isn't chasing a destination crowd or a special-occasion table; it's built for the regular Tuesday, the after-work pint, the group that wants somewhere loose enough to stay for three hours without anyone hovering with the bill. Pricing sits in everyday pub territory, the kind that rewards a second visit next week rather than a once-a-year splurge. The wings-and-a-game rhythm is the baseline, and the broad menu and the activities let a casual evening stretch into something longer. It reads as a neighbourhood bar that knows its regulars and is set up to be easy to come back to.

The calendar gives the week its shape. Doors open daily at eleven, and the kitchen runs late into the weekend — to one in the morning on Friday and Saturday, later than most casual kitchens in the area keep their lights on. Every other Tuesday brings a Bike Night, with its own food pricing from seven to nine for the riders it draws, and the live-music slate pauses through the summer before bands return in September. Kings also takes on the bigger occasions by arrangement, hosting receptions, showers, birthdays, and the stag-and-does that a standard dining room would turn away.

Kings opened in 2019 and settled into the role a neighbourhood draws on without thinking about it: the default when no one wants to cook, the screen when there's a game, the one still serving when the nearby kitchens have called it a night. The cooking is pub cooking done straight rather than reinvented — wings and burgers dependable enough to pull people back, and everything around them there to keep them longer. Most weeks, the same faces turn up in the same booths, a game on the screen and a plate of wings between them.
