Limani on Hess

9.5

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

Limani is the Greek word for harbour, and the grill at Limani on Hess lives up to it. Octopus comes off the fire dressed in the kitchen's own blend and a balsamic glaze, plated with tzatziki and grilled pita; calamari arrives lightly dusted; shrimp is grilled to order. This is the second Limani for a family that already runs Limani on Fifty, and the Hess Village address sets a seafood-minded Greek kitchen down in the middle of one of Hamilton's busiest nightlife stretches. What the family carries with it is a menu wide enough for both a shared celebration and an ordinary Tuesday plate.

The meal opens on mezze. Saganaki makes the clearest first move — Kefalotiri cheese flambeed and served with grilled pita — and a build-your-own trio of dips lets a table assemble its own spread around house-made tzatziki. The fried calamari comes lightly dusted rather than heavy-battered, and the grilled octopus doubles as an appetizer sturdy enough to anchor a table on its own. These are shared plates by design: the early rounds are built to sit in the centre of the table and get passed around.

The dinners run down the familiar Greek spine and then a little past it. Chicken souvlaki arrives as a full plate with Greek salad, rice, and roasted potatoes; the lamb-and-beef gyro dinner brings the rotisserie-shaved profile into entree form; and the moussaka layers eggplant, potatoes, tomato meat sauce, and bechamel. Lamb kafta and grilled shrimp widen the grill's range beyond the standard skewer, and grilled lamb chops sit near the top of it for a bigger appetite. Vegetarians are not stranded either — spanakopita, a vegan spanakopita, Greek fries, the Village Salad, and the dip spread give a meatless table more than one honest path through the order.

Read together, the menu and the calendar point to a kitchen built for a night out as much as a weeknight plate. Greek nights bring music, dancing, and the occasional smashed plate; a live DJ turns up the weekend; and the Hess Village setting — Hamilton's dense cluster of bars and patios — gives that energy somewhere to land. Wine and cocktails fill out the bar alongside the expected ouzo. On Fridays and Saturdays the kitchen runs from noon straight to midnight, which reads less like a restaurant's schedule than a Village night's. Yet the same kitchen also sends souvlaki and gyro dinners out a dedicated takeout entrance, so the party is not the whole story.

The family behind Limani on Hess has done this before. Limani on Fifty came first; the Hess Street location, opened in 2025, is the second, family-owned and operated. It did not arrive as an experiment: the recipes, the format, and the hospitality came fully formed from the first location, proven before Hess Village ever saw them. Tradition and a more modern sophistication meet on the plate and in the dining room, where a relaxed, celebratory Greek table is the point rather than white-tablecloth formality. It is the kind of second act only a proven kitchen attempts — the cooking intact, the address new, and none of the first-year guesswork.

The operating range runs wider than the dinner hour suggests. A private room books birthdays, baptisms, corporate events, and family gatherings, while the catering menu sends souvlaki, rice, roasted potatoes, and handcrafted desserts off-site. The seating spills outdoors when the weather turns warm. And the desserts are worth staying for — The Golden Greek, fried to order and finished with Greek honey and cinnamon, and a bougatsa of warm custard folded into flaky phyllo under a dusting of icing sugar. A dedicated takeout entrance keeps the off-premise orders on their own track, running past the dining room without cutting into it.

Three things this kitchen does the rest don’t

  1. 01

    Greek Menu Depth

Saganaki, grilled octopus, moussaka, souvlaki dinners, gyro, house-made tzatziki, and phyllo desserts give the menu more range than a single souvlaki-and-salad read.

  2. 02

    Hess Village Night-Out Energy

The official site frames Limani as a Greek room with music, dancing, ouzo, and celebratory energy, making it stronger for social dinners than quiet utility meals.

  3. 03

    Private Room and Takeout Coverage

A private room, catering language, a dedicated takeout entrance, and off-premise ordering support give Limani more operating range than the dining room alone.
