The Greek Burger explains this menu faster than the menu does. It takes the most Canadian format a bar and grill has and runs it through the kitchen's other register, and it is not a one-off — Butter Chicken and Chicken Souvlaki sit on the same list as Jumbo Chicken Wings, Fresh Cut Fries and Loaded Poutine. The Hills Bar & Grill cooks all of it out of the clubhouse at Meaford Golf Course on Ridge Road, in the form it has held since 2023. Full service, lunch and dinner, moderate prices, and the course itself on the other side of the patio railing.

The pub core is the larger half, and it is built from dishes people order without reading twice. The Hills Hamburger carries the house name and makes the kitchen's plainest statement; Fresh Cut Fries go beside it. Jumbo Chicken Wings are the shared opening order. Loaded Potato Skins and Loaded Poutine cover the same ground from different directions. The Midnight Blues Burger takes the burger somewhere richer. A Porterhouse Steak anchors the heavy end and Homemade Soup handles the light one. Then the list turns — Butter Chicken, Chicken Souvlaki, the Greek Burger — and turns once more for Eggs Benedict, the single dish here pointing at a morning rather than an afternoon.

Range like that is a decision rather than an accident. A kitchen inside a golf course serves groups that barely overlap: players coming off the course wanting wings and a cold glass, Meaford residents who want dinner and have no interest in golf, and a delivery radius that never sets foot in either. Running all of them off one line means the menu has to be wide enough that nobody at a mixed table settles for something — the opposite of how most bar and grills answer the same question, which is by narrowing until the kitchen is fast. The Greek and Indian dishes are not decoration on the Canadian core. They are what keeps a table of six from splitting into two restaurants.

There is a way to order here that the menu rewards. The Hills Hamburger with Fresh Cut Fries is the baseline, the plate that states the restaurant's position without qualification. Wings and fries make the practical shared opening for a larger party, because they leave room for whatever comes after. Then someone orders the Butter Chicken and the meal stops being a pub meal. Prices sit in the moderate band, which matters more to a table of six than to a table of two. Groups are the format this kitchen handles best, which is also the reason to plan ahead: booking runs through the phone rather than a link.

The setting carries what the menu does not. The patio opens straight onto the course, and inside there is enough seating to take a party that arrives together without breaking it across two tables. Live music and community events run through the calendar, which is how a restaurant set south of town on Ridge Road gives people a reason to choose it instead of passing it. Takeout and delivery run alongside the dining room rather than behind it. On a July afternoon the tables fill twice — once at lunch, and again when the last groups come in off the course.

Meaford swells through the summer and contracts after Thanksgiving, and its restaurants build either for the visitors or for the people who stay. The Hills declined to choose. The same menu that feeds a foursome in July feeds a family on a Tuesday in November, and it manages that because it was assembled around a table rather than around a type of customer.
