Dough Bits Dessert House

8.8

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

Dough Bits Dessert House is named for exactly what it sells: small pieces of fried dough, and the pile-on of sauces, fruit, and crushed nuts that turns them into a dessert. That literalness is the whole idea. The base stays deliberately plain — a warm, bite-size canvas — so the character of any order comes from what lands on top. On Richmond Street, in the middle of London's Richmond Row, the counter treats that simple format as a platform for abundance and builds an entire menu outward from it. It is a dessert stop first and unapologetically so, and it wants your first decision to be a flavour rather than a dish.

The namesake bowls set the range. Dark Pistachio layers chocolate sauce, pistachio sauce, and crushed pistachios into a single order — creamy, nutty, and crunchy at once — while Honey Fruit Bonanza goes brighter with banana, strawberries, honey, and powdered sugar, and Choco Peanut Butter leans into chocolate-hazelnut sauce with peanut crumbles. From there the menu fans out without losing the thread. Specialty doughnuts arrive dressed like desserts in their own right: a S'mores Doughnut under crushed graham crackers and toasted marshmallows, an Apple Pie Doughnut with spiced apples and vanilla drizzle, a Mocha Crunch dipped in chocolate and finished with toffee and coffee. Mini pancakes come stacked with Oreo crumble or with white chocolate and pistachio. Cheesecakes in a dozen variations, milkshakes from KitKat to Lotus Biscoff, non-alcoholic fruit mojitos, and hot chocolate round out an order sheet built for grazing rather than for a single plate.

What gives the menu its logic is repetition with variation. A handful of flavours — pistachio, Lotus Biscoff, chocolate, hazelnut — recur across formats rather than staying put in one dessert. Pistachio shows up in a bowl of dough bits, again in mini pancakes, and once more in a cheesecake; Biscoff turns up as both a dense cheesecake and a milkshake. The effect is a built-in flight: a table can chase one flavour through three textures, or spread the order across chocolate, fruit, and nut and compare as it goes. This is a menu organized less around signature dishes than around a signature idea, which is taking a familiar taste and working out how many ways it can be plated. The café side keeps pace: espresso drinks, hot chocolate made from melted chocolate chips, bubble tea, and those soda- or Red Bull-based mojitos give the sweets a range of things to drink alongside them.

Since opening in 2020, Dough Bits has grown from a single shop to two London storefronts, the namesake format carrying it across the city. The Richmond Street counter runs on the logic of that appeal: colourful, quick to read, and geared toward sharing, with takeout and delivery for orders headed elsewhere. The hours are the other half of its identity. From Wednesday through Saturday the counter stays open well past midnight, and on weekends it runs into the early morning — a schedule that puts it out of step with the cafés around it and squarely in the path of anyone leaving a late dinner, a concert, or a night on Richmond Row with room left for something sweet.

That timing is what separates it from a daytime bakery. A bowl of Dark Pistachio Dough Bits and a couple of contrasting pastries make an easy centrepiece for the end of an evening, and the counter is built to turn one around quickly. Anyone managing allergies is better off calling ahead — the kitchen has not published allergen guidance, and shared prep makes cross-contact hard to rule out. But for a table that has already had dinner and simply wants dessert to be the event, Richmond Row has a place that keeps its lights on long after the rest of the block has called it a night.

Three things this kitchen does the rest don’t

  1. 01

    A Namesake Built For Toppings

Dough bites give sauces, fruit, nuts, and cookie crumbs a small-format base that is easy to share and simple to customize.

  2. 02

    One Flavour In Several Forms

Pistachio, chocolate, and Lotus Biscoff recur across dough bites, pancakes, cheesecakes, and milkshakes without collapsing the menu into one texture.

  3. 03

    Dessert After Most Kitchens Close

Late opening hours make the Richmond Street counter a practical stop when the evening plan calls for sweets rather than another full meal.
