Delilah's

7.1

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

Delilah's serves dinner at an address London knew for years as a nightclub, and most nights it becomes one again before closing. The John Street dining room took over the former Barking Frog on Richmond Row and kept the late licence that came with it. What that buys is a whole evening at one address — a booked table, a cocktail list, a patio, and music that starts while the plates are still coming out. Groups use it that way more than couples do, because it answers the question of what happens after dinner without anyone having to relocate. The lights stay on until two in the morning.

An itemized menu is not posted at the moment, and the lineup has moved since the plates that made the restaurant's name were written down, so the familiar list reads as a starting point rather than a promise. Truffle Fries, Korean Fried Chicken and Japanese Street Tacos are the three that carried longest — a shareable opener, a rich fried plate, and a small-format taco that gives the international framing something to point at. Around them sat Buffalo Cauliflower, Rock Shrimp, Arancini, a Charcuterie Board and Spin Dip, with a Citrus Salad and an Asiago Burger to keep an order from tipping entirely toward the fryer. The larger plates ran to Truffle Risotto, Blackened Chicken Alfredo, Mussels, a Tuna Poke Bowl and a Wagyu New York Steak. Confirm what is being served on the night before building an order around any one of them.

That spread says something about how the kitchen is asked to work. A dining room that turns over into a late crowd cannot organize itself around a single tasting arc; it has to feed a six o'clock table that wants a steak and an eleven o'clock table that wants four things in the middle and another round. Sharing formats do both. The prices sit well above pub level, which asks a guest to value the drink and the night alongside the food rather than pricing the food alone. The international range works the same problem from the other direction: Korean, Japanese and Italian references share one page, and no single regional frame is asked to hold them together.

The bar is not an accessory to the dining room. Handcrafted cocktails are the first thing Delilah's says about itself, and the drink order often lands before anyone has settled the food, which is why the shareable end of the menu matters more here than a formal appetizer course would. The patio carries the early part of the evening, live music included. Later the DJ takes the indoor sound and the crowd turns younger and denser. A table booked at seven and a table booked at eleven are not having the same night out, and both are on the same floor plan.

Derek Hsiung is the owner. He opened Delilah's in 2015 with partners, taking the John Street address over from its previous tenant, and his account of the plan is plain enough: make the food matter at a corner that had never needed it to. The patio expansion is the part of that project with the clearest public trace — a City-supported build-out that added frontage seats and gave local musicians somewhere to play. Live music outside came first, and the DJ nights indoors grew alongside it rather than displacing it. On a warm night the sound reaches the sidewalk before anyone opens the door.

Richmond Row is full of addresses that picked one job — kitchens that close at nine, bars that never bothered to cook. Delilah's declined the choice, and the awkwardness of that is the point. A restaurant that takes a reservation for seven and is still full at one has to be good at two different things on the same floor, in front of two different crowds, out of one kitchen and one bar. Casual fine dining with handcrafted cocktails is the phrase it uses for itself; what it actually offers is an evening that does not have to be planned in two parts.

Three things this kitchen does the rest don’t

  1. 01

Dinner That Carries Into Late Night

Reservations, cocktails, daily late hours and a club-like second act let one address carry a full social evening.

  2. 02

A Patio With a Local Story

Derek Hsiung’s city-supported patio expansion created room for local musicians and gave the former Barking Frog space a new public face.

  3. 03

    Familiar Plates With International Range

Truffle Fries sit beside Korean Fried Chicken and Japanese Street Tacos, giving a group order variety without demanding a single regional frame.
