Mist Restaurant & Lounge

9.5

First time here? Take the 30-second tour of how Restaurantica works!

A night out at Mist runs on mocktails and Turkish coffee. The Ancaster lounge is entirely halal and alcohol-free, and it treats that as the shape of the evening rather than a limit on it — polished, unhurried, built for hours at the table where the food sets the pace instead of the bar. Mist opened in 2024 along the Wilson and Fiddler's Green corridor, and from the start it has worked less like a place you wander into than one you plan around: reservations, shared orders, and nights meant to last.

The Middle Eastern core is where to start. Falafel arrives as ground chickpea and herb balls under a creamy tahini garlic sauce; hummus comes smooth with sesame, garlic, olive oil, and a dusting of sumac; baba ghanoush leans on charred eggplant, tahini, and pomegranate seeds. From the grill, four lamb chops land with grilled vegetables and rice, and the Mix Grill Platter gathers lamb chops, kabob skewers, chicken breast, rice, vegetables, onions, and parsley salad into one family-style order built for four. The wood oven handles the flatbread side — sojuk sausage and cheese on a manakeesh, or a muhammara spread of red pepper and walnut — and the dessert list ends, reliably, on baklava layered with nuts and honey and served with vanilla ice cream.

What sets the menu apart is how far it travels without losing its centre. The same wood oven that bakes manakeesh also turns out a Chicken Tandoori Pizza, folding tandoori chicken and butter chicken sauce onto a twelve-inch crust. Butter chicken arrives on its own with fragrant rice, a ten-ounce AAA striploin sits on the grill beside chicken shish tawook, and Greek and fattoush salads and a spiced plate of batata harrah round out the spread. Vegetarians do well — falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, the salads, the muhammara manakeesh — without being pushed into a token corner. The breadth is deliberate: a table that can't agree on one cuisine doesn't have to.

The lounge side gives the evening somewhere to go after the plates clear. Groups tend to build the same arc — falafel and hummus to open, the Mix Grill Platter or lamb chops at the centre, a Chicken Tandoori Pizza as the bridge when the table splits between comfort food and something more specific. Dressed-up, modern surroundings and a shisha-friendly setup turn dinner into a longer sit, and the alcohol-free drinks list does the work a wine list usually would: mojitos and mint coolers, fresh juice, tea, and Turkish coffee to carry the social hours. Mist is built for that pace — reservations, a slow turn, a setting that lets a long table stay put rather than cycle out.

Mist was established by a family that frames everything around food first — "where elegance meets flavour," in the restaurant's own words. The halal, alcohol-free model isn't a constraint the kitchen works around; it is the premise the whole evening is designed on, which is why the mocktail list and the dessert run carry as much weight as the grill. For Ancaster, that fills a real gap — an outing that works for a date, a family dinner, or a late group celebration without ever organizing itself around a bar.

The design shows most on weekends. Friday and Saturday evenings carry a late lounge window that runs toward one in the morning, with a minimum spend and a two-hour seating limit, so a visit works best reserved and paced. The rest of the calendar leans toward birthdays, parties, and the tailored celebrations Mist arranges with its own décor and personalized menus. Two years in, the pattern is set: reserve a Friday table, order the grill early, and let the mocktails and baklava carry the rest of the night.

Three things this kitchen does the rest don’t

  1. 01

    Halal Lounge Without the Bar

Mist's clearest differentiator is the combination of a polished lounge atmosphere with a 100% halal and alcohol-free model. It gives Ancaster a place for date nights, families, and groups that want an occasion room without shifting the meal around alcohol.

  2. 02

Middle Eastern Grill Meets Fusion Comfort

The menu is anchored by falafel, hummus, manakeesh, lamb chops, and the Mix Grill Platter, then broadens into butter chicken, tandoori pizza, pasta, mocktails, and desserts. That range keeps the restaurant from feeling like a single-category dining room.

  3. 03

    Celebration-Ready by Design

Mist's reservation and event language points to birthdays, parties, special occasions, tailored spaces, decor, and personalized menus. The room is built for planned evenings as much as ordinary dinner service.
