Crow & Gate Pub

If you're looking for an authentic English pub, this is the place for you. To order your meal, you'll have to line up at the bar and choose from a list on a chalkboard. The menu changes weekly, so it's a place you can visit often and always find something new.

I ordered the ploughman's lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the fresh cheeses and freshly baked bread - the butter tasted like it had been churned for me.
There was a lot of food on the plate - potato salad, grapes, pickle and pickled onion, cheese and bread - but it felt more like a sampling - perfect for lunch!

Friends had crab cakes, steak & kidney pie, clam chowder - unfortunately they weren't serving English-style fish & chips the day we went. Disappointing!

The interior is dark, which is fine in the winter or a rainy day, but I recommend the garden if you come on a nice day. When you pay for your food, look up. Locals leave their mugs there and the restaurant cleans them and re-stacks them. Each mug has it's own place - very cute.

I`m laughing at some of the other reviewers, obviously they`ve never watched Coronation Street or All things great and small. You always order your food at a British pub at the bar.... must be silly Americans ( & I am one, American that is) Anyway the food is good and filling. The bread pudding is delightful and of course the beers are wonderful... the atmosphere great and service is great. We had our meal dellivered to the table, offer of dessert and was brought to us and refills on coffee and tea. We`ll be back!

This is our favorite place for diner or sunday lunch. The patrons are mainly regulars and we like the casual atmosphere. The staff are friendly and knowledgible. This a place to relax over leisurely meal. We do not drink, but some our friends like their selections of ales and beers.

We were not aware that we had to belly up to the bar to order drinks and our meal and as such unfortunately lost our table and had to sit near the bar which resembled a soup kitchen chow line. Ounce at the bar you are expected to order from a list of meals that are not described as to what is in them (Names Only). I prefer to know what I am ordering ahead of time and was not impressed with having to ask about all entrees while listening to the heavy sighs of those waiting behind me in the chow line. The food was adequate but noting to write home about. The grounds were beautiful and if you love gardens I recommend the Crow and Gate. If you want service then I recommend something much more familiar.

Wonderful place to just relax and take in the atmosphere food was great once you realise that you order first at counter the locals all seemed to know this, but still a enjoyable evening

Awesome food, a bit slow as we didn't realize you have to order at the counter then sit down, so we were waiting at our table to order... but I would definately go again. Beautiful grounds, great atmosphere and great food...
