- ReviewWith so many TexMex holes in the wall in San Antonio, it's hard to find one that really distinguishes itself from the herd.
El Rafas does that, and then some.
The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, delicious, non-greasy, with more-than-ample portions and great prices.
But even more, the subtleties make El Rafas an amazing place to eat. The refried beans are light and delicate, the handmade corn tortillas are stupendous, the house salsa is well thought-out, and even the lowly papas fritas are prepared with a pleasingly delicate crunch.
Whenever someone visits me from out of town, I rush them to eat at El Rafas because I love to sit back and take credit for turning them on to thier new favorite San Antonio dive.
It's really worth the trip.
