Pho

I had been eating lunch regularly at the Pho Vietnamese restaurant on Guadalupe for several years before retiring from my University of Texas position last year. I continue to try to get by the restaurant for lunch at least once per week. I prefer spicy food, and this restaurant delivers in that regard when one requests. My favorite spicy dish is Singaporean Tofu, which is a mix of broccoli, tofu, and rice mixed with a wonderfully tasty and spicy chili sauce. Other selections which I frequently order include seafood / vegetable pho, a spicy seafood and vegetable dish with rice or noodles, and an occasional tofu or shrimp springroll or steamed broccoli and snowpeas for side dishes. The family that owns this restaurant have gotten to know me as a regular, and always remember to bring me a side order of spicy pepper sauce with whatever I order. A few years ago around Christmas, the proprietor and his family were having their own private pizza lunch, and kindly offered me a slice when I came into the restaurant. I’ve always found service to be friendly and efficient, and have rarely had to wait more than five or ten minutes to get my food. The lunchtime atmosphere is pleasant and bustling with U.T. patrons most times of the year. For the moderate prices charged, I’ve found the food at Pho to be tasty and well prepared. For years before I found this restaurant, I had eaten at a Greek restaurant a couple of blocks to the north. The Greek restaurant closed about six or seven years ago, and I spent a couple of years largely unsettled with lunchtime choices in the University area. I was relieved to discover Pho on Guadalupe. They offer the spicy food which I prefer, moderate prices, a pleasant atmosphere, and good service.
