This was our 10th wedding anniversary and dinner at Antoine's was the center piece to the entire trip to New Orleans. My wife and I made reservations in February for dinner on June 20th to ensure the perfect evening.
Were seated right away. Ordered a bottle of Reisling and that is when the fun began. After presenting and pouring the wine, the bottle was placed in a bucket and then "placed on the floor?" I've been to many well respected restaraunts and never have witnessed this before.
Next we place our orders and I make sure to tell the waiter that this is our 10th anniversary and he interupts by saying, " I'll take care of this, I will bring a special baked Alaska". At that point we were willing to overlook the wine and waited on the edge of our seat to finally be served a 5 star meal at the world famous Antoinne's.
The appetizers arrived without incident. Then the main courses. My wife ordered glazed carrots as her side and did not receive. When we advised the waiter, he made a joke that "someone in the back must have messed up and he would take care of it". He left and we did not see him again until dessert.
After the meal, the waiter asks "what we would like for dessert?" I replied that we are still waiting for my wife's carrots. He apologized and shared that they were very busy tonight. He asked if we still wanted the carrots and we said no, dessert would be just fine. My wife and I looked at each other and we said in unison, "You said you were going to serve us Baked Alaska for our anniversary." The waiter quickly apologized and restated how busy he was, and that it would be right out".
Then we waited 20 minutes of which we did not see our waiter once. We finished the bottle of Riesling and placed the bottle updise down in the bucket on the floor. I said to my wife, "I bet we are not going to get our Baked Alaska". Then our waiter emerges from the kitchen, noticeably empty handed, and said that there was a problem with the baked alaska. We can either wait another 30 minutes or we can pick another dessert that would be on the house, "Of Course". We asked for the check and walked over to The Court of Two Sisters restaraunt around the corner. We had planned on getting drinks there before we went back to the hotel, so we just arrived sooner that we anticipated. we advised the bartender of our ordeal and he comp'd our drinks. Inadditon he arranged for a huge piece of chocolate cake. He even took a picture of us which turned out so well, that it is now hanging in our bedroom!!! Thank you Antoinne's, for allowing The Court of Two sister's to save our 10the anniverasry dinner!
