  • Best Sushi in TO @ reasonable price
  • Review by Graeme Ball on 06/23/08.
  • 10 diners, 26 - 40 years old, $100+ per person, Visit again? Yes
  • Orderwakame salad, gyoza, miso, sushi rolls, sashimi, sake, many more
  • ReviewI've lived in Japan and I've lived in Vancouver for 10 years. Moving to Toronto was a sacrifice when it came to my love for sushi... until I found this place! The salmon sashimi is to die for - marbled and melts in your mouth! The owners and staff are very friendly. I've eaten at many sushi places around Toronto and unless you want to pay much more than it's worth you don't get the quality of fish and a pleasant experience like this one. The only bad review I've read about this place comes from someone who doesn't like to eat fish... don't go to a sushi restaurant if you don't like fish! If you like sushi - you've found a good place. Ichiban means #1 and it delivers!

  • Disagree
  • Review by Paul Shenton on 06/05/08.
  • 6 diners, 41 - 60 years old, $11 - $25 per person, Visit again? No
  • OrderVegetable Udon and Tea
  • ReviewI must disagree. There are no edible non-fish options. Even the Japanese Udon soup was inedible at this Japanese sushi restaurant. I thought that something as simple as vegetables and noodles in broth was impossible to ruin, but this restaurant proved me wrong.

This is not like going to an Italian restaurant and complaining about the Greek food. It is like going to a Japanese sushi restaurant that has other Japanese food and complaining that the Japanese food sucks.

  • This Place Is Fantastic
  • Review by Josh M on 05/21/08.
  • 2 diners, 26 - 40 years old, $11 - $25 per person, Visit again? Yes
  • Orderalmost everything on the menu
  • ReviewThis place is fantastic. I highly recommend it. One of the best value sushi restaurants in the city and I've done my T.O sushi research. The service is impeccable, the ambience great and servings incredibly generous. The sashimi is particularly good and 2-3 times the size of servings elsewhere.

P.S. Paul Shenton's review is hilarious. My suggestion is that if you don't like fish DON"T GO TO A SUSHI RESTAURANT. It's like going to an Italian place & complaining that their Greek food sucks. BTW, there are delicious non-fish options.

  • Great Sushi Compared To Others In...
  • Review by maggie on 02/22/08.
  • 4 diners, 26 to 40 years old, $5 - $24 per person, Visit again? Yes
  • Orderbulkoki, maki lunch, sushi lunch, sashimi lunch
  • ReviewGreat sushi compared to others in this area. I'm sure you can get cheaper, comparable meals in other parts of the city, but for the Beach, this is the best deal and best quality. Friendly staff, lots of freebies (like extra noodle soups, agadashi tofu at dinner). Great value for lunch specials.

  • A Fantastic Sushi Restaurant
  • Review by C Sandy on 09/21/07.
  • 2 diners, 26 to 40 years old, $25 - $49 per person, Visit again? Yes
  • Orderrainbow roll, salad, miso soup
  • ReviewA fantastic sushi restaurant. Freshest fish in the city. I have been here many many times. The owner and wait staff are very friendly. You always get two starters on the house (a noodle soup - TASTY and deep fried tofu - TASTY, with an orange to cleanse the palette after you meal)
The 1 rating that Paul gave is only an indication of how foolish people are and should in no way have been posted. I'm sure he would give a bad rating to a vegan restaurant for not having meat to offer non-vegan customers. And on top of that there are numerous menu items that are without fish... Udon soups, chicken or steak teriyaki, vegie tempura to name only a few.

  • My Boyfriend And I Always Go Here As...
  • Review by Paola on 08/19/07.
  • 2 diners, 26 to 40 years old, $5 - $24 per person, Visit again? Yes
  • OrderWe've had just about everything on the menu.
  • ReviewMy boyfriend and I always go here as we are we live close by. This is great for us becuase we have not been to a better place than this one. I am still trying to figure out how to make that so-myun soup!!! The service is great, it's fast and you get served right away even if you are going for takeout. I saw some comments on there about not being served something that has no fish product... are you kidding me?...you are in a sushi place!!! But anyhow, it's great all around, and the prices, they're are not bad... just to go back to the "veggie's" comments, you're in the Beach, just in case you forgot, everything is a bit more expensive here, but for quality sushi, it's a bargain!

  • If You Are Accompanying Friends And...
  • Review by Paul Shenton on 03/03/07.
  • 6 diners, 41 to 60 years old, $5 - $24 per person, Visit again? No
  • OrderI ate vegetable u-don and tea. My friend ate a variety of sushi. We shared some edamame.
  • ReviewIf you are accompanying friends and do not like fish, do not go to this place. There is absolutely nothing edible with no fish...no soup, no nothing. What there may be is completely inedible. I have accompanied friend to sushi restaurants and order a noodle dish or a soup and was able to enjoy myself. Quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I have had in the past five years. And to add insult to injury, it was even (slightly) more expensive than other sushi retaurants. The only regret I have is that this system will not permit you to rate anything with a zero.

  • Everything Was So Fresh And Delicious
  • Review by Caitlin on 08/05/06.
  • 2 diners, 19 to 25 years old, $25 - $49 per person, Visit again? Yes
  • OrderI had the dynamite roll, spicy tuna roll, edamame, and so myun soup and my friend had the spicy california roll, spider roll, gyoza and miso soup. As a complimentary appetizer they serve you a small dish of the so myun soup and agedashi tofu. To drink we had Asahi beer.
  • ReviewEverything was so fresh and delicious! They give you complementary agedashi tofu (which I don't normally like) but theirs is to DIE for. The ingredients really are the freshest I've ever had and the service was phenomenal. Also the breaded yakitori and chicken katsu are great you have to try them. Definitely a must go for sushi lovers in toronto!
