  • Friends have raved about the Chop House, saying the food was good, and the prices reasonable. My husband and I went on a Sunday, for lunch, after church. We found the service to be very good, especially since there seemed to be two waitstaff in charge of the whole restaurant. That was a large area to cover, whether or not there were few people in the restaurant.
Our first bad surprise was that the lunch menu was not available until 2pm on Sundays, only breakfast was served before that. Since the lunch menu had pulled pork and other tasty-sounding things, we were sorry to be left with breakfast. Well, no matter. We made our selections.
The coffee came, and I finally took a good look at my cup and realized that the smear on the drinking edge was not mine, but from a previous diner. Also, the inside of the cup was coated with streaks of dried-on coffee. On top of that, the coffee wasn't very good. The waitress was quick to apologize and replace my cup.
Breakfast came, and the poached eggs were well-poached, which fortunately, my husband didn't mind. The Hollandaise sauce was very tasty. My omelet (5 eggs) was huge, and very ordinary. I recently had much better at the Ten Friends Diner, a non-profit where we ate recently. The homefries were indifferent, and underdone in places. Again, the Ten Friends Diner had wonderful homefires, so I couldn't help comparing. The barbeque barbbeans were very underdone, and the sauce on them was rather sharp and vinegary. The waitress didn't charge us for the beans. (We've had much better beans at the Tecumseh Road House, and Smoke and Spice. )
Finally, a trip to the ladies room, and we would be on our way. While the ladies room was clean, the trash bin for paper towels was a milk crate full of used paper towels. There were two chair legs on top of the toilet tank, and a bubble pack of assorted screws, which must have gone with the broken chair leaned against the wall in the back hall. I was really turned off, then.
The restaurant seemed completely empty, except for my husband and I, and a private party in the back. Having several chairs, including the broken one, lined up in the back hall which was the back fire exit seemed the crowning touch. It was the strangest meal out I've had lately. I know with the economic downturn, restuarants are hard hit, but really, the Tecumseh Chop House should try harder.

  • Order: poached eggs on peameal bacon with hollandaise sauce, mushroom and swiss cheese omelet, homefries, beans, coffee

  • Do not waste your time or money. The food is subpar at best, the waitress was excellent. Overall value horrible. For the money, I would rather buy my own steak....at least I would get a good total meal. Unbelievable, all of us ordered the tenderloin steak and the waitress advised that they didn't have anymore available, its a great place to go for appitzers if that's what you're looking for. We should of left after the appitzers because they brought us steak with lots of fatty sides and very little meat. One of our party couldn't even eat the steak because of this, they did finally subsetitute a gnootchi meal. The waitress was very clever for offering us the 'surf turf' addition to our meal, which included two small lobsters tails but cost $39.99 extra ! The sensus of our party was no one will ever come back to dine, and next time it's the Keg for steak, can't go wrong.

  • Order: Appitzers- crab cakes, cajaun beef bites, ceasar salad, tenderloin steak (well done), which they ran out of!! Several drinks

  • I enjoyed decent food, but really enjoyed the extra care that all wait staff provided. The Chop house does have one major downfall that will make me never to return - management.

Understandably, in these tough economic times, restaurateurs have been making concessions and cut backs, and we've all seen the products of "tightening the belt". However, I have recently learned that the management of The Chop House is playing a dangerous (and illegal) game by not paying their wait staff a wage, beginning mid April 2009, and having them subsist solely on the gratuity that they earn from diners as their income.

  • Excellent breakfast! My husband and I decided to try breakfast at the Chop House on Sunday and were very impressed. The food quality was excellent, the portions were huge, the prices were very reasonable and the waitress was friendly. It was the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time.

  • After receiving their new menu in the mail, our family decided to try the food at the TCH on Friday night the 23rd of Jan.

Start with the good points. (1) The wait staff are excellent (2) The restaurant interior very classy and (3) The hand-cut french fries as excellent.

The bad points. (1) The older male host was running around the restaurant and should have been more accommodating to the customers coming in. Instead customers were left in the lobby without being attended to (2) A salad should have come with the main dinner portions, (3) The perch had no flavor at all and tasted like bread crumbs.

  • I will definitely return. The appetizers were good, especially the beef tips and the steak was the tastiest I've ever had. Both the waitress and the owner were very gracious.

  • Order: Shrimp, Beef Tips, Kalamari, Spring Rolls, and Artichoke Spinach Dip for the appetizers, and Rib Eye Steak was the entree

  • Dining with two other couples. All of them were very satisfied with their meals. They all had the prime rib or the filet. My wife and I had rib eyes. I started with crab cakes and she started with caesar salad. I asked the server if the crab was fresh or canned. She was honest and said canned but they were really good. They were OK but they tasted like they were pre-formed from a box . It was topped with what seemed like a cold can of corn. My wife's caesar was non-descript. Our steaks came to the table and mine was minus the bernaise sauce option. The server said they ran out and what other sauce would I like. I would have ordered something different entirely had she asked me before my food came to the table. I was in the mood for the bernaise flavour. I ended up getting the gorgonzola sauce on the side served 1-1/2 oz. in a 2oz. silver portion cup. It was tasty. The steak was so salty that the sauce actually cut the saltiness. Half way through my overcooked steak (asked for MR and got medium), I hurt my tooth on a hard piece of gristle. My wife and I filled a bread plate with inedible pieces of our steaks. The server never asked us how our meals were since our friends were enjoying theirs. She asked if I was taking a break and I told her no I was done. She just cleared the plates. When paying our server at the debit machine, I was not asked how the meal was. This was very disappointing as our party originally set out to go to The Keg but opted for the Chop House because parking was more convenient. I have never had a bad meal at The Keg. My wife and I rarely complain at a restaurant as we used to own 2 restaurants several years ago. I am also a chef.

  • Order: Rib eye steak, crab cakes, prime rib, filet, caesar salad, artichoke dip, stuffed mushroom

  • Our group had a fabulous dinner at the restaurant and will be back again. The steak and service were amazing. The menu provides a wide selection (but not too big) of appetizers and entrees. Also, just an FYI Greg....the restaurant is not opened on Mondays (ie. March 10th cannot be your date of visit) and you made some spelling errors. However everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I say our dinner was great! We will be back!

  • Order: Spring rolls, crab cakes, tenderloin steak (cooked perfectly), whipped potatoes, chocolate torte, carrot cake
