  • First - I have been noticing that a lot of reviews on this site are OUTDATED! So make sure you check the date when deciding whether to go or not....

El Mayor has been all redone and has a great, classy atmosphere.
Being vegetarian, there are TONS of options and everything is always FRESH! The best time to go is in the afternoon when no one is there...

One thing I have to comment on is the service. The owner is always very nice and sweet. Maybe it's just because I go there all the time, but when I pick up take-out they always throw in a piece of baklava and give me Turkish coffee if I'm waiting. The waitresses there are attentive and sweet.

    Definitely check this one out!!

  • First time there after hearing a lot of rave reviews. I enjoyed it. There is parking available, which is nice... lots of seating and the service was fast.
The food was all amazing, would go back.

Too add, portions are small like most claim. My fav in the city would be Kebobgy for Middle Eastern food.

  • I've ordered take-out many times from this restaurant and am never disappointed. Excellent portion size, authentic food, great price, and the food tastes amazingly fresh!

Tonight, however, I dined inside the restaurant..and aside from teh chairs which are a bit uncomfortable..this has to be one of the best meals i've ever had for the price. The staff is warm and cordial..the food was garden fresh, spiced properly and delicious. And after dinner, we were served delicioius arabic creme brulee and turkish coffee on the house!

Great place...great service...I love this place so much that I went through all the trouble of creating a profile here just to say thanks for the great food and service.

  • This place has the tastiest, most authentic and freshest arab food in Windsor. Actually, it's better than anywhere I have ever eaten it (including my Iraqi grandmother's kitchen!).

The service is friendly, like you are eating in someone's family kitchen. Free turkish coffee and sometimes some sweets is common.

The atmosphere is very clean, orderly if a bit tacky in that appropriate for a shawarma place way. It just comes with the territory. I want my arab restaurant to have those awkward paintings and bad translations on signs here and there. And then they serve the best food going.

  • Order: hummus, baba ghanouj, tabbouli, fattoush, shawarma plates, dolma, strawberries/ricotta dessert

  • very consistent bad experience. I live in Michigan and visit my parents with my boyfriend often.
I took them out to el-mayor last year before the renovation, and felt no life in the place and the food was below average.
I decided to give it a try now that the place is renovated and expanded.
OMG. too red, too bright, too banquet. the food didnt seem fresh and the meat was so tough.
staff were all nice and smiling when they seated us but were not helpful at all when we complained. I complained to the lady manager about the quality, she said sorry but didnt do a thing to make us happy. she was going to let the chef know, but still expected us to eat our BAD food, and still fully charged us for it.

  • When this place was a hole in the wall, it was the bee's knees. After the renovations it turned into all style no substance. Riding on their rep. now - but for how long?

  • that's right, i'd never thought in my whole life that i'd actually be grateful for the tiny portions of food!
simply because it was HORRIBLE! the vegetables were anything but fresh, possibly even frozen! the meat was dry and rubbery and reminded me of horse meat i ate once in algeria! the rice was stale-tasting, and the food in general tasted like it had been refrigerated for weeks, reheated/refried (eegh..i know), and served.
the service was sub-par, the waitresses were friendly enough, but in no way to compensate for the horrid food!

the salads were indescribable..in a dismal way of course. the fattouche was the worse than i'd ever imagined possible, and had it been my very first time eating fattouche, i definitley would never have tried it again.

chicken was cold and rubbery and overspiced, i assume to cover up the overwhelming unfreshness of it.

hummus tasted like dried beans and oil, just horrible!

in addition to being overpriced, the vine leaves were a disaster! the leaves were dry and chewy, in NO WAY FRESH! and soaked in olive oil. the rice inside was just repulsive, soggy, cold and mushy!! thank god the portion only included 4 of them.

i love lebanese and mediterranean food, and this is a disgrace to that cuisine!

  • We had guests from the states so we decided to take them there. They hated the food. We ordered just about everything there is on their menu. Service was okay but the food was sooo bad. Dry, stale and tasted like it has been cooked then reheated. The vegetables were not fresh. But i do love their pickles ;)
For the price i paid, I wished everyone could go home satisfied, but no one did. Prices are high and portions are small. Ive never had such a small shawarma sandwich at this price. I do not recommend it for arabic food. Mazaar is 10000% better and cheaper.

  • since we eat there so often. I admit that the seating is a little too out in the open. Some booths would be a nice addition and add intimacy. Still, it's one of the most consistently good places to get Lebanese food in Windsor. The wait staff are very attentive, do quality checks, and always are prompt with drink re-fills, asking if we'd like coffee or dessert after our meal.

Also, we found this place by accident one night (prior to the recent renovations) when I was craving fattoush late at night. We drove around and this place was the only one we found open. When we walked in we realized from the sign that they were closing in 10 minutes, so we turned around to leave, but they were very insistent that we stay and eat, and the service was great despite our being the last table of the night. THAT is good service.
