I went there because I love sushi and figured this would be a convenient AYCE place right near my house. First of all, they don't even serve sashimi, dragon rolls, or any specialty rolls whatsoever. We went during a time when it wasn't the buffet but we still ordered off the menu. All we could get were dried up california rolls and every rolls available at that time had no raw fish in it whatsoever, basically defeating the point of having a sushi place at all.
I was thoroughly disappointed and could find the exact same "sushi" sold in plastic boxes at Zehr's down the street. - Order: California roll

Always a pleasure to dine in at yummyaki. I love love love sushi, and it is the place to be at. The service is sweel, very friendly staff. The food comes out very quick when it's not rush hour. TRY THE MISO SOUP - the best in Kitchener/Waterloo - also the spicy salon :)

It was my boyfriends birthday celebration and he wanted to have AYCE sushi. The food seemed pretty decent. Not out of this world fresh or anything. The staff seemed almost put out to continue bringing the food. But we realized that it was busy and everyone has their days. We were also pretty vexed by the fact that they didn't tell us prior to ordering the AYCE that any leftovers would cost us additional. We didn't have much left regardless, but they should give you a little bit of leeway within reason.
Long story short...we were to get on a plane to go to the Dominican Republic early the next morning but awoke throwing up & the first 2 days of our vacation was ruined from food poisoning. They DEFINITELY need to be checked over by a food inspector because this experience has put us both off sushi (one of my fav. foods) PERMANENTLY!

First of all, the food was not very fresh there (ex: the salmon had a weird taste to it). There were very limited choice in the all you can eat menu, yoespecially for the price u had to pay (you had to pay extra for drinks, sashimi, and only one scoop of ice cream was allowed per person, which were very odd in an all you can eat place). Beware of the msg there, you get really thirsty after eating there. I definitely would not go back again.

THE BIGGEST RIP-OFF EVER !! the WORST all-you-can-eat restaurant !!
i have never in my life had a japanese AYCE with absolutely NO sashimi at all. the menu was small, with generally just rolls or noodles(udon/ramen). the miso soup "taste" was good, but the seaweed was really bad, way too overcooked. the dumplings' wrapping tasted weird. the tempura was ok, but would not be considered good because the batter was bad. the handrolls were cheap with hardly any fillings. the rolls were very POORLY made. the ramen wasn't traditional ramen, it's like instant noodles. and one more thing, the ice cream isn't even AYCE, only 1 scoop per person. so cheap, such a RIP OFF. i would NEVER in my life go to this place again, and i would definitely NOT RECOMMEND it either.

Yummyakis sushi is deffinitly the best in the area. Being from Vancouver, and coming here being able to find a sushi resturant that is even werth sitting in is a treat. The staff was imformative and funny, and the owner Derrick makes you feel like family.
I also love how they have a few korean dishes on the all u can eat menu. Bolgoree is amazing. I love how there rolls are smaller which is more traditional...because theres nothing werse then getting a roll thats bigger then you are and it falling apart all over you. The ingredients are fresh and you can tell are made with passion for good japanese food. And it never hurts to support the independent and family run places.

I wasn't expecting much walking into yummyaki -- but truthfully was pleasantly surprised. The interior decor is nice (unlike the student-oriented decor of Mr Sushi or Ye's sushi) -- its small and quaint but seems well-kept. The service was quick and friendly. For once, I actually got miso soup that wasn't a joke (Ye's miso soup is more like salt water), and strangely both my girlfriend and I noticed that everything was very fresh - from the slice of tomato on our salad to the lemon on our drink. I also liked the dressing on the salad -- a lot more like good sushi restaurants in Toronto.
We ordered combo D for sushi, which all in all was pretty good. The salmon especially was very nice, but some of the other pieces had very small fish pieces or fish that didn't taste as fresh as one might get in Toronto. The california rolls tasted really good, with little black seeds in the rice (not sure what they are) which really added to the taste. We also ordered the salmon skin maki, which my girlfriend liked, but me not so much. All in all, the sushi was better than any I've had in Waterloo -- I finally walked out of a sushi restaurant in Waterloo satisfied.
So, given all that, Yummyaki easily earns 4 stars in my book. The only reason why it didn't get 5 stars is because I've had better sushi in the Toronto area. But within the Waterloo area, unless I find anything better, I'll happily be returning here for my next sushi fix.
PS the prices are slightly higher here than Ye's -- but in my opinion, Ye's is a horrible joke gone horribly right -- so if the all-you-can-eat at Yummyaki is nearly as good as their a la carte, then I'd much rather spend a few dollars more and do all-you-can-eat at Yummyaki.

Every two weeks a co-worker and I go to Yummyaki's for lunch. We either go before noon or after 1pm to avoid the rush which is a good tip for those of you hoping to miss a crowd and get the service you crave.
I think it's nice that if you buy 'a la carte' that you can pay right off the bat and not have to worry about it later. Which means when it gets busy you can up and leave to make room for others. And it does get quite busy, quite fast.
I've ordered several things going there and have yet to be disappointed. The dumplings are by FAR my favourite along with the Chicken Katsu. The home-made ginger dressing for the salad and the sauce for the katsu are amazing!
You also get a nice bang for your buck. For about $11 you get soup, salad, rice and a meat dish plus a small appetizer and everything is of a more than fair size. I always have to get a take-out container for the rest.
The owner and his wife always treat us nicely, even when its busy and the employees are never shy about answering a question or concern I may have. Though they run around with their head cut off they still manage to keep up great food and great service. I'll keep going!

Went to Yumiyaki 3 times now
First time with my GF service was good food was good overall good impression we had all you can eat.
Came back a second time with some friends and just ordered food from the menu and was good.
I came the third time with my parents having all you can eat. After about an hour or so of eating the waiter came over and started saying that they close at 9 this was around 8:30. And even tho we were still eating he said about charging for leftover food. This service is frankly unacceptable. Food is great service is not. I have recommended yumiyaki to lots of friends, but i am no longer recommending yumiyaki to anyone due to the service. ruins the whole experience - Order: all you can eat

They used too much crab meat in the rolls. Almost every other roll on their AYCE menu had crab meat.
Even for dinner, sashimi wasn't included in the AYCE, a bit disappointing.
The service was fast, but for both times, they forgot some orders we made.
At the end of the dinner, the server came over to our table to say "You don't have to finish all the rolls, we won't charge you". While I appreciate the good notion behind what she said, it made the remainder of the meal very awkward.
I went to Yummyaki because of the reviews here, but I definitely think Ye's sushi has better food.
