Raintree Cafe

Wow. What a fantastic little place in Waterloo. A girlfriend and I tried it out after finding it online and we're so glad we did.
We were surprised to find out that it was packed and normally you need reservations, but luckily there was a table available. Immediately our server offered us water and let us know about the specials. She was very friendly and attentive.
I had the Mermaid Wrap with the Venus dip, which is a smoked salmon wrap with asiago cheese, artichoke and garlic dip. It was fantastic.
My companion had the Mediterranean Wrap with Feta dressing and she loved it too.
We will definitely be back! All for about $23.00. You can't beat it. :)

Can't imagine why I haven't discovered this wonderful place before. Location probably. Close to Wilfrid Laurier University (food near the universities is usually not very good, although it's often cheap) and off the main drag.
Anyway, I'm glad a friend took me there and I've been back a couple of times since. The food is creative, tasty, clean, and inexpensive. Last visit by two we had curried lentil soup that is loaded with veggies and yummy - certainly made on the premises. Shared a grilled chicken sandwich, also veggie heavy and with a yummy sauce they call "Power Sauce."
If you're looking for a 12 ounce sirloin stay away but if you want healthy, interestingly flavoured grub this is perfect.
On my visits servers have been great and the place has been packed. Reservations for lunch at noon a wise choice.

I never thought I would find a place like this in Waterloo! It is simply amazing. The food is the strong point here. Everything has the perfect combination of flavors and they're not afraid to add some spice! It's a simple, unassuming restaurant that always has a creative menu. Highly recommended.

This was probably my fifth trip to Raintree and I am yet to be disappointed by their food, ambiance, or service. The food is fresh and cooked properly and they have a great selection of drinks (made on site) and desserts. As others have noted, the venus dip is AWESOME. I like taking others here as there are a lot of choices that are "safe" for vegetarians, vegans, and people who can't eat wheat.

This time we learned our lesson by making a reservation for lunch. With the high scoring we went in with high expectations. The owner was nice and kind, and very busy.
We ordered cajun and mediterranean chicken wrap with venus dips. the dip was very nice, the wrap was salty and tasty, lots of ingredients as well. The portion may not be enough for big eaters

It probably isn't perfect, but I'd visit again if I want a light lunch with good food.

They make there beverages by hand, their venus dip is like nothing I have tasted... I want to steal the recipe. Wraps are healthy and delicious, but not as filling as I would like. All fair trade coffees, and the service was remarkable... Please go. Go now.

First of all, the two or three people who said this place is terrible need to take a look around and see that everyone else has rated The Raintree very high. Get a clue! it's not fine dining. It does what it does very well. There are not many places like this in Waterloo, and if you did happen to have a bad experience, I hope you'd be wise enough to realize it was a fluke. There is always going to be something on every menu that you don't like, so i would suggest going and trying something different. I love this place and eat there quite often. The desserts are some of my favourite offerings! and they make great soups. Weekends there is usually live entertainment later in the evening..check it out!

My second visit to this little gem of an establishment, the food was hot, delicious,superb, the service was friendly and efficient. Only regret is we didn't have time for desert, no fault of the RainTree.

I am a BIG fan of the Raintree. They make the best veggie burgers around...the only ones I will eat, in fact. And the mermaid wrap, the venus dip, and the caesar salads...to die for! We split the dessert...terrific. The service is always good, with friendly wait staff. Be sure to make a reservation!
