START OFF WITH THE POSITIVE (IF YOU WANT TO CALL IT THAT)
- The food. This was the only saving grace (barely) for this restaurant. The curries are decent. The naans are fresh. Everybody around the table shared a taste test among each other. Lamb curry definately went well with the curry sauce. Chicken was so so. Two people ordered the butterchicken with rice. The rice was old and the butterchicken sauce had way too much coconut milk.
NOW******** THE NEGATIVE**********
- The service............ horrible....... horrible...... horrible.....
The servers/cashier seem to be the most arrogant and un-approachable bunch ever in the restaurant service industry. Heck even Gordon Ramsay on his worst day would be more welcoming than the Kismet staff we had to deal with.
Soon as we stepped through the door and headed towards the counter; there was no greeting- no eye contact- simply no acknowledgement from the staff.
So my friend (it was her birthday) asked if there are any specials available for that time of day. The rude staff behind the counter answers: "THE MENU IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU!!" in a harsh and impatient tone.
I and a few others wanted to leave and eat at some of the other restaurants @ the University Plaza... the atmosphere in Kismet was just un-inviting :(
But she was persistent with eating here.
So we agreed to her request since, it was her day of celebration and all.
Lets just say that the whole time we were eating, the wait staff gave us dirty looks and attitude anytime they came by our tables.
The meals themselves were "ok" but... two out of the five of us found hair and spit in our stews (the butter-chicken dishes)
When we informed the staff about the hair + spit; they never gave us an apology, refund or even replacements for the two dishes.
Instead what we got was the staff being very stubborn and claiming that "they are the cleanest restaurant in Kitchener" routine :(
Finally the man in charge that day (manager? owner?) came out and offered to replace the two dishes for us..........
after careful consideration and realizing that all cooking/prep work is done behind closed doors and way in the back of the kitchen... WE DECLINED, REQUESTED CONTAINERS AND LEFT!!!
NEVER AGAIN WILL WE STEP FOOT IN THIS "RESTAURANT"
KISMET "RESTAURANT" needs to learn about customer service and cleanliness before they leech off hard working students and workers!!!

With the exception of the angry gentlemen behind the counter Kismet is amazing! The food is reasonable priced and tastes amazing (Especially their Nan and Onion Baji), the other staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is always pleasant and sociable.
They make you pay for a takeout container now which I'm not a fan of but the food itself more than makes up for the few shortcomings Kismet might have.
Definitely worth your time if you like Indian food.

MAHA THIRD CLASS! This place totally sucks. Like other people who have mentioned in their reviews that the guy who takes the orders at the cashier's desk needs to improve his customer service skills. WHY SO SERIOUS :) Serve with a smile dude. He looks like he's chronically constipated. They should really have him wipe tables etc.,
Now on the food, the main reason I went there. Some other reviewers had raved about how good the food was. Well, either they are working for this restaurant or they don't know what good Indian food is. The food sucks. I ordered a butter chicken with naan, takeout. I can tell you the thing was just prepared in a microwave, probably frozen and flash heated in the microwave. It tasted awful, I couldn't finish the meal and ditched it in the garbage, it was that bad. The butter chicken tasted like rotten onions were used to prepare it, and they overdid the coconut (this is the first time I've ever seen coconut flakes added to butter chicken) it was just gross. And the naan was underdone, with no butter, usually the naans are buttered in normal. This was the worst naan ever, not buttered and undercooked.
Don't waste your time and money in this stinky sheethole guys and gals, this place is a poor excuse for food, let alone Indian food.
I have gargaled twice with listerine to get that funky rotten taste of butter chicken out of my mouth. gross, sick. Don't go there, it's a trap.

First off, the food, for indian food, isn't bad. It's actually pretty good. I'd go back just for the food (and I do), plus they have the online delivery thing with emealstogo so it makes it easier to order. They've got a pretty wide selection and depending on what you choose you can get a decent meal for under $10.
Now, the guy behind the counter is not the nicest. He seems to favour certain customers over others, and the general feeling you get is he just wants you out of there, which is why i prefer the online ordering rather than the face to face thing. The food takes a while to get to you, but its part of the fresh thing so I don't mind it so much. Usually comes in warm sometimes I get it at room temperature which is alright. In general, I recommend this place to people if they're looking for good quality indian food for the price its at. Don't pay attention to the spice ratings, everything there's mild but flavourful. - Order: Chicken Samba, Tandoori Plate, Chicken Biryani

I had went to the same owners restaurant when they were on Phillip and Albert. The food and atmosphere were much better. It seems as they are now catering more to University students, they don't really care about their food as much. The rice was very dry and tasteless. The chicken was not bad. The onion bhaji was more batter than anything, burnt and dry. I was really disappointed. The service however was very quick and the they were very nice

I don't know what some other reviewers are talking about, but this restaurant has one of the best Indian food in K-W (Koh-i-noor is also up there). The naan is to die for and the dal samba (lentil curry) is so hot that it makes my boyfriend cry (in a good way). The guy who's always at the front counter has been friendly and courteous every time I've been in. This is were I go when I don't feel like cooking and want something fast and reasonably priced.

this place has the most divine curries, the best nan i've ever had the pleasure of tasting and the creamiest coolest raita to compliment it all. the 'cafeteria' style of the restaurant can be deceiving but give kismet a chance. pretty much anything on the menu is phenomenal. do not listen to the negative reviews- they are clearly from competitors in the area trying to give kismet bad press so that we'll go to other places. this is HANDS DOWN the best indian food in the kw area. i always get enough for leftovers so i can eat it a 2nd time in one day! enjoy!!!

The naan here is delicious. The Chicken Korma is delicious as well if not a little too creamy. It's got a really nice coconut flavour to it. Service is fairly fast and it's nice and reliable. Visit fairly frequently.
