Fresh and delicious food. Friendly and speedy service. NO MSG or peanuts used. Washrooms are clean. Excellent Chinese restaurant overall. Highly recommend the Noodle Malayan, the Wonton soup and the Chicken Balls (crispy and only chicken breast used).

I love Kam Yin. Very cheap and delicious. My boyfriend and I visit often, and always order the same thing, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken fried rice, and pork fried rice. There is always more than enough food, and tastes delicious. By far my favourite chinese food place. You can even call in your order, and it will be ready by the time you get there.
I would highly reccomend this to any of my friends.

This is not a place to dine - but is great for take out. Excellent food and value for what you pay for. However, not a place for a sit down dinner - as you can also tell from the reviews.
Order take out instead, and then don't worry about the brutal service - although I agree people should not be treated they way they do, but the food is good - so that's why I keep going back. - Order: many different things over the course of the year

My wife and I have ordered take out from this restaurant many times over the years. We find the food good and well priced. This is our most frequent take out restaurant and we are happy with the service and value. We especially love the Wonton soup.

our lunch was awful..hard overcooked battered chicken balls and shrimps, veggies and noodles with no actual veggies in it, diced veggies consists of celery and waterchesnut, nothing of quality. The service consisted of throwing menu at us and plopping down plates of less than desiable food..money and time is best spent elsewhere!! With all the competition won't be surprised when they go out of business.

I would say that their food is very good and tastes very well - their chicken balls are always very good and I thoroughly enjoy their food.
However, its true. Their service is awful. My boyfriend and I went in to eat an half an hour before close and they would not seat us - claiming that it was too late. I understand they wanted to go home, I work at a resteraunt too. However, it is not appropriate to simply not serve people - they were still open for another half hour. They were very rude about it and I was extremely disappointed with their service.
I would go back for the food, but they should not be able to get away with treating people badly, its simply unacceptable. - Order: Chicken balls
- Service leaves something to be desired.

We have lived close to Kam Yin for 2 years now. We're huge Chinese food fans and we have tried just about everywhere in Waterloo, but have found Kam Yin to have some of the best food in the area.
However, every review on here about poor service is completely true... or to a point. The older men who work there seem to be the biggest culprits. The younger staff are always awesome to deal with.
We used to order combos, but my wife CANNOT eat rice. They had substituted for lo mein for us a couple times. Then they said they can't do it on weekends. Why? Who knows. Doesn't matter. We just ordered during the week. However, then, during the week they started denying us, despite us, begrudgingly paying a $1.75 substitution fee each time. It climaxed with my wife calling them out on the rule and one of the older gentlemen saying, "fine!" and my wife went to continue ordering, but he hung up on her. I phoned back and cancelled the order.
We said we'd never go back, but you just can't find great Chinese in the area, so we go under an alias now and don't order combos anymore.
My adivce? Turn the place over to your kids, or whoever the younger workers are. The food is fantastic, but your attitude sucks.. big time! I'm glad we're moving out of town soon because each time we order from this place I cringe, but the fact remains that the food is good. It's just too bad that these people obviously take that for granted and treat their LONG TERM customers like crap.
