  • I am going to keep this brief. This restaurant is in the location of the Olde English Parlour, which used to be a fav place of mine for lunch or dinner many years ago. The Fox and Fiddle is a poor replacement.

We had a reservation. Arrived. Restaurant and bar pretty much empty. Staff unprepared and not welcoming. Were going to pull tables together opposite the entrance. VERY cold and windy night with a bad draft...we asked if we could sit anywhere else (in the empty dining room). They put us beside the kitchen doors.

Ordered drinks. The bartender actually came to the table about 10 to 15 minutes later and asked how to make a shandy (beer and sprite/7up/gingerale...standard British pub drink).

Food arrived MUCH later. Not hot. Those who ordered wings and buffalo chicken felt it was the worst ever. Tough. Swimming in room temp sauce. Fries were obviously frozen that had been sitting under a heat lamp.

It was very disappointing overall and expensive for what you got and the quality.

I will say this. I emailed the head office after our group dining out disaster. They immediately sent a letter of apology and offered to look into the matter. They also offered a gift certificate. We will use the gift cert, but at another location. Never again in Waterloo.

  • Order: chicken wings, buffalo chicken, chicken parm, fish and chips, other appetizers and salads

  • I should have read the menu selections more carefully, as I was disappointed to find that the chicken salsa wrap came with breaded, rather than grilled, chicken. The wrap was very tangy and filling. My lunch companion complained that the beef in his wrap was very fatty. The soup was tasty, but on the salty side - no need to add. It was very quiet when we went - we could count the number of guests on one hand - so we didn't have to wait long for our order. The server was pleasant and checked back to see how things were going and to find out if there was anything else we needed.

I did think it was on the pricey side, though the portion sizes were good.

Update: I ended up feeling bloated and sluggish all afternoon. I don't think I'll go back here again, when there are so many other restaurant options in this area.

  • Order: chicken salsa wrap, teriyaki beef wrap, chicken noodle soup

  • This place is great for a night out when you want some drinks and live entertainment with friends.
I would NOT go here for dinner/lunch, however. The food is mediocre at best and the prices are ridiculous for what you get. We ordered nachos (not even that good, Marbles, McMullens and Philthy Mcnasty's are much much better) and they came to almost $18.00!
    For BASIC nachos.
Such a let down. I would only recommend this place for cold beer with friends.

  • Order: nachos, sandwich, poutine

  • A large selection of beers on tap and in bottles. My personal fave has been Molson Sub Zero with its own tap and served, allegedly, below zero. It is cold and delicious especially in this hot summer of 2010. Wings on Wednesday are a good deal and plump and ahve tasty wing sauce. Greek salad was large and had a nice selection of veges with feta and tasty dressing. The place was crazy with Spain and Nederlands fans galore for the World Cup Soccer. I like the dark cool atmosphere, large bar, and multiple TV's for viewing the game while enjoying friendly prompt service.

  • Order: Beer, wings, Greek salad

  • Came for friends birthday party and was indifferent about the atmosphere and service. It's a typical pub style restaurant with mediocre food. Probably only good for a couple beers but nothing more.

  • Order: beer

  • My fiance and I ate here last week. The service was okay, I guess, but my food had plastic wrap in it! I had one of their sandwiches, and I pulled out a large piece of plastic wrap. Then, my vegetarian fiance asked for no bacon on her wrap, and they put bacon on it. We complained and they took the food away and brought it right back with the bacon removed. You could still see where it had been. They would not make a new one, nor would they even discount our bill. The ambience sucks too, it kinda feels like you're eating in someone's basement. I'll never go back.

  • Order: Sandwich and wrap.

  • Friend and I ordered nachos. $16! Not enough toppings, half the chips had nothing on them, had to get extra salsa and sour cream just to eat the rest.

  • Place was almost empty when we went in (Harmony lunch was closed, and this was right around the corner)

Ordered the above, it was a big plate of fish & chips, takes me a while to finish; the other 2 burger plates were huge as well. Average pub food, good and quick service, wouldn't mind visiting again

  • Order: fish & chips, tex & mex burger, mediterranean burger

  • This place seemed like your average pub: reasonable ambiance, lots of beer on tap, typical pub food.

I started with the onion rings... Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I guess I got exactly what I asked for... A big plate of Onion Rings. Most places I've been serve some sort of dipping sauce with Onion Rings, but not here. It would have been welcome though because the Onion Rings were mostly flavourless.

For the main course, I had the Steak and Chips. The steak was slightly underdone and incredibly tough. The vegetables that came with it were mushy to the point of being difficult to pick up with a fork and the chips were decent but nothing special. All in all, not what I'd expect from a $17 dish.

For desert, the Blueberry cheesecake was quite tasty, but it was obviously store bought.

The service was friendly and quite fast, but on a whole, I don't think I'd recommend this place to friends and I doubt I'll be going back there any time soon.

  • Order: Steak and Chips, Onion Rings, Blueberry Cheesecake, Rickards Red

  • So excellent, every Wednesday is cheap wings, and let me say they are excellent. Service ranges from extremely mediocre to wonderful depending on your waitress. Two thumbs up for this pub !
