The liquour liscene is renewed, so I didnt have the problem as mentioned by the review below me. I consider myself a sushi expert and I considered the sushi up to par, not as great as a la cart, reg price sushi, but considering the value, it was excellent. A bit slow on service, but I have a great time overall, I wish I could hold more sushi in me!
I recommend the jade island roll, crunchy roll - try it with the brown rice! healthy and adds a bit of texture!

This restaurant used to be a very good destination for all-you-can-eat sushi buffet. However they are currently having some sort of renovation and supposedly trying to renew their liquor license. In any case, my partner and I had tried to have a dinner three times during the past few weeks there and well the experience was nothing short of complete nightmare. When we first came, we were told they closing early that day (around 9pm on Friday evening), the second visit we tried to come earlier (around 8pm Wednesday evening) and again we were told that they are closing early.
On the third visit we decided to come even earlier at 7pm, and ended up waiting for close to 1 hr to get our seats. There was only one other couple ahead of us, and during wait, there are a few guests who have finished and left. When we asked why we can't get a table, they insisted that due to their liquor license renewal they can't seat us nor the couple ahead of us. After the long wait we were given a table and all the menus (including the buffet menus), however the waiter said in a murmur that they're not serving any more all-you-can-eat buffet (even if he actually had given us a buffet menu). When we told them that we have waited for almost 1 hr and that nobody told us anything about this, he just shrugged and walk off without even giving any apology.
It was the worst experience my partner and I had ever experienced in all Toronto since we lived here for the past 10 years.
In all honestly though we have dined there a few times months ago, before they had this renovation and liquor license renewal thing (which I believe started just a few months ago), and the food was ok, however as mentioned by several people, the service is quite horrendous. However after all this renovation debacle, everything seems to be going completely downhill.
I would suggest before visiting to call them up and ask them whether or not they have finished their renovation and liquor license renewal stuff. It might be worth trying if they have sorted out the issues. However for the time being this is *DEFINITELY* A RESTAURANT *TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST* !
PS: Do not believe the review by 'adhamslataroff', it seemed like either a paid for review or one made by the staff. Completely ridiculous review, not to mention this person posted almost exact review in other online restaurant review sites.

Management was rude but the service was great. Ordered Seaweed Salad, which was delicious and texture was excellent. Soft shell crab was cut and not overly battered. Deep fried Oyster was delicious but some may not like it. I also recommend the Beef Enoki. There are some different options compared to regular all you can eat sushi. They have the brown and black rice sushi which is different and has a different texture. Emerald Jade Sushi was very different which consisted of grape! For some reason it reminded me of McDonalds. Grilled Squid was not too good, it was pretty dry/overcooked. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. The AYCE Option #2 is 16.99 and 18.99 for weekends.

went to Sushi Island the other day for the first time, and said to myself that it will be my last time there.
Contrary to what some people were saying, I didn't have much problems with the service. They were not super-quick and they did forget my order at one point (which happened to be my most expensive order that night), but overall service was acceptable. No I didn't expect Kaji quality sushi, after all, this is AYCE. For example, their gari (pickled ginger) was very bad... not crunchy at all, but this was expected, that they probably would be buying the cheapest pickled ginger and cheapest tea leaves to cut on the costs. Fine.
But at the same time I know what to expect of a 'decent' sushi joint, AYCE or not.
The quality of the dishes - UGH. Even for an AYCE, it was too bad. I had better sushi at Mariko (which I also plan not to return). We were a group of 3 and did the most expensive option so we could try everything.
I can understand that they would still have restrictions on the most expensive option, like a maximum of 2 orders of maguro (though I was only allowed 1), no hamachi (or was it no hirame?), no uni, no unagi sashimi and so on. But they were also out of MANY other things on their a la carte list like amaebi, ikura, hokkigai and so on, so in the end we really only had about 3 or 4 kinds of fish (read: the least expensive kinds) other than the max-2-maguro to choose from... not a good sign.
The worst part was the rice. lukewarm and mushy, and squished too hard that they were becoming pasty. Yuck. After the first round of orders we quickly agreed that this was no place to eat sushi (i.e. maki and nigiri, anything that uses rice), and decided to concentrate on sashimi and other items. But what CAN you eat in a sushi place if sushi was unnacceptable? Well, we tried. But the other dishes weren't great either.Oh there was one funny thing that night also... I ordered ika (squid) sashimi and they served me ebi (shrimp). Plain old boiled shrimp. I told the waitress that I ordered ika, and she replied, "This is our ika." I can see that maybe one can mistake squid for cuttlefish or vice versa, but not shrimp for squid!
I said "But this is shrimp, not squid." and she said, "Do you want it back?" at which point my friend said, "Okay, we'll take the shrimp. That's fine. So you don't have squid tonight?" and she insisted, "This is the ika that we serve. So my overall impression on Sushi Island: A restaurant with the name Sushi that serves inedible sushi, period.
If you want delicious AYCE sushi try Sushi D down the street. Tried it for the first time this week and the experience was definitly worth noting. - Order: AYCE

My boyfriend and I recently moved to the Little Italy area from St. Clair and have ventured to this little culinary delight about 5 times since the move. Although the gentleman who usually seats us at the table can be rather abrupt and rude, we have had the pleasure of being helped out by a lovely server who always seems to be there.
Time and again we have ordered almost everything on the menu in an effort to try something new and we have almost always been greeted with fresh and flavourful dishes. Most notably, the Rainbow roll (such tender unagi!), the salmon ginger roll (very fresh...even my friend who came from Japan enthusiastically chowed down on the melt in your mouth morsel...) and the Fire and Ice roll...an incredible combination of white tuna and hot pepper.
On the weekends they do tend to limit your table time as, come dinner at 7 pm, they have a non-stop flow of people, very large groups vying for a spot. In my opinion, this resto is a spot not to e missed, especially for large groups of friends with tastes that are not catered to easily. They offer a great selection and are very accommodating. We brought bottles of champagne to celebrate a special event - so they do have a corking fee. Give it a try! You won't regret it.
- Order: All of us ordered from the All you can eat menu. It comes with a salad and miso soup. We often start off with Agadashi tofu, beef sashimi, edamame, green tea to drink or sometimes Sapporo beer. If you aren't quite satiated after the multitude of sushi, try to Tempura banana and mango ice cream! Yum!

My partner and I went to this all you can eat sushi restaurant. We chose the highest priced buffet at 22.99. There are 3 price level buffet, but you have to have the same as the person who is with you.
It was quite packed the night we went, which was a Friday night, we had to wait 2 hours for a table for 2, I imagine it would have been worse for a party of more.
The service was terrible - took a long time for food to come. Our waitress was really rude, when we ordered the sashimi, she asked "isn't that too much? or are you sure you could eat all that?"
She also had this attitude like she wanted us to leave so bad :S Also, she didn't bring everything we ordered and we even had to ask for missing food. But, the food itself was quite good, I'm also a health nut, so I loved that some of the sushi options actually used brown rice as opposed to white rice.
It's worth going for the quality of food for the price, but be prepared for horrible service!

I used to love this restaurant the rolls were fantastic everything was top notch the AYCE was a real bargain and wait staff were friendly. They seem to have changed the AYCE individual portions you receive are smaller the rolls are sloppy and contain less ingredients nothing tasted as good as it did months ago. i used to go there frequently, and it was always great. But now it seems they have become much more concerned with profit than food quality i am so disappointed how mediocre what used to be one of my favorite places has become. I dont feel like going anymore .It is no longer my favorite or even all that good. The service has also become more unfriendly and fixated on time limits and doesnt alway bring what i order. Too bad this place used to be great I imagine their new focus on profit will backfire and they will lose many previously loyal customers Sad

We loved this place! it has a great atmosphere, and the service was great too. They have 3 different all you can eat to choose from, ranging frmo 10.99-20.99. They give you an hour and half time limit, so once your order comes, place the next order to keep the food coming.
I went back the next day and ordered take out! Thats how good it was! - Order: All you can eat Sushi - Green dragon roll - Grilled squid - Srimp, tuna sushi

Some friends recommended this place so we went to try it out for a birthday celebration.Huge dissapointment! There were a few prices for AYCE so we chose the most expensive one at $20.99 ($22.99 because we were there on a weekend) because we wanted sashimi. The manager was shockingly rude! One of the first sentences she said to welcome us was "You are given 1 1/2 hours to order & eat & then you have to leave because it is packed today". We understood there is usually a time limit to AYCE but saying it in such a rude way before you even sit down is just plain rude! Then, we tried to order 30 pieces of salmon sashimi for 8 and the manager said, "I think 30 pieces is too much. Why don't you try take 15 instead?" So we decided to be nice and was okay with the salmon and we proceed to order 20 pieces of red snapper on top of the salmon and she said, "Why don't you order other types of sashimi and less of this because you have to take other customers and tables into consideration". At this point, we were like "What?!". First, we have to be told in a rude way that we have to finish 1 1/2 hours on the dot. Second, she cuts down the portion on whatever we want to order and third, we have to take other customers/tables into consideration on what we want to eat?Geez how ridiculous!Needless to say, at this point we decided that we had enough and walked out of the restaurant. I have never been to a restaurant that is so rude and arrogant in my life. When we told her we had enough and we were leaving she said "FINE!" like it doesn't really matter anyways. Think twice before you go to this place! Even if the food is good, with such service you don't really have any appetite left to eat at the end!
- Order: I tried to order 30 pieces of sashimi but I wasn't allowed!What a ridiculous restaurant!
