  • There are at least half a dozen AYCE sushi places on College between Spadina and Ossington. I read the reviews for all of them before deciding to give Sushi D a try. There were a couple negative reviews, so I was a little apprehensive. I eat sushi at least once a month (usually a la carte, not AYCE) and consider myself pretty picky when it comes to quality and freshness. You can't mess around with sushi - either it is good quality or it isn't.

The verdict? Sushi D is EXCELLENT in terms of quality, freshness and variety. Yes, it's a tad expensive when it comes to AYCE ($21 for the full menu), but is actually a good value considering you are getting the same quality and variety as an a-la-carte menu, but with all-you-can-eat portions.

Both hot and cold dishes were very well-prepared. I especially enjoyed the specialty rolls (spider roll, dragon roll), the sashimi, and shrimp tempura. My husband really liked the chicken teriyaki. They also do not skimp on the portions. The sashimi, for example, comes in the proper size and cut, not tiny slivers of fish like you get at some other places.

The decor is nice (modern asian), and clean. The place also filled up for dinner - and it was a weeknight. Always a good sign.

Lastly, the service was very efficient. It isn't like some other AYCE places where you have to keep asking them for your order. At Sushi D, food came quickly, and they didn't get a single order wrong.

If you love sushi and haven't tried this place, I highly recommend it. It is now my go-to place for AYCE sushi on College.

  • Order: shrimp tempura, dragon roll, spider roll, chicken teriyaki, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna maki, Japanese eggplant, beer

  • My boyfriend and I were visiting Toronto and, after reading a few other people's opinions on Toronto sushi places, decided to eat at Sushi D for my first ever all-you-can-eat sushi (or just plain sushi) experience. I'd only really tried maybe 3 or 4 varieties of poorly-made sushi before this, and I must say, the food here was a large step up from that.

The sashimi was fresh and delicately flavoured, especially the salmon sashimi. Their teriyaki dishes were absolutely delicious, with a nice heavy sauce. The scallop appetizer we had was lightly breaded and fried and delicious. The sushi had maybe just a tid bit too much rice, but was still delicious, aside from the roe sushi (although this is because I'm not too fond of roe, as I found out). Lastly, for dessert, we had their banana wonton ice cream dish, which was THE best banana wonton I've ever had. Period.

As for the service, it was simply phenomenal. Our server would regularly ask us if we'd like to order any other food, and every time we tried to flag down a server to order more food we were never ignored. The servers were all very nice, and the food didn't take very long to be cooked and brought out. The only negative point I could think of was that we were brought the bill before the AYCE time limit was over, but even so we were still offered more ice cream after we'd gotten our bill. Lastly, I hadn't been able to finish the roe sushi because I didn't like it, and even though it was VERY clearly stated on the menus that one would be charged for ANY leftovers on your plate, the lady who brought our bill told us not to worry about it and didn't charge us a penny for leaving food behind.

    Overall a highly recommended restaurant.

  • Order: Roe sushi, teriyaki chicken/pork/beef, banana wonton ice cream, salmon sashimi, ebi sashimi, red tuna sushi, grilled beef, etc.

  • The service was great. Recommend the Rock Shrimp which was fantastic. Do not order Treasure Island because it was very messy and everything was just piled on. Also do not try to mango sushi unless you like mango and cream cheese together. I came here for my birthday which my friends told the manger and was given fried icecream, which was delicious! It is not on the menu (however there is Fried Banana). There is many variety and has its own unique side. Some were hit or miss; nevertheless, this place has great selection for its price. AYCE for the whole menu is approximately 18.99 (+2$ for weekends). Also you should know that there is no difference in price for lunch.
