  • There used to be a number of places where people would go just for a decadent dessert and a coffee. Maybe it's because the baby boomers all ran out of belt loops, but whatever the reason, those places are now few and far between. Demetre is the exception. But it isn't anything like I remember nor want in a dessert place. Instead of the artful desserts of a Dufflet's, Demetre's specializes in very simple desserts. Pretty much everthing is made from ice cream, chocolate sauce, a token fruit ingredient and some sort of waffle or crepe. The variety seems to come from stacking them in different orders more than actually varying them in any meaningful way.

Overall, it reminds me of Licks: High-quality, simple, nostalgic, kinda gimmicky and plentiful. I definitely won't be back any time soon, but if that's what you're looking for, you've found it.

I found it quite pricy at about $12 for a dessert and coffee.

  • Order: The only things they sell: ice cream and waffles.

  • This is a small place. I usually come here at night which was always packed. Nice titles for the menu item but food was nothing special. My "Unforbidden Fruits waffle" was just kiwi, strawberry and banana with ice cream (with jam?). The fruits were really nothing special and sour. It was great to look at but what a disappointment. The jam was sicken-ly sweet.

The pizza I guess was decent. It consisted of ham, mushroom and pepper. I rather have a regular pizza but overall this pizza was different so no real complaint. I like how the crust was thinner than some other places (and it was not super thin).

  • Order: 'Unforbidden Fruits' waffle and pizza
