Can you say OVERPRICED?!!?
I had a $100 gift certificate to spend here so I thought what do I have to lose? I took a friend out for dinner and although the food was okay, the prices and the portion sizes were ridiculous. Outlandish prices for teeny portions. Drink prices were ridiculous (I was drinking virgin drinks and was charged full price...what??). I think they're trying way too hard. The dessert was expensive and not very good. All around one big...meh... - Order: Vegetable tempura, Crispy lobster & crab spring rolls, sashimi, Lemon tart.

Blowfish smells of mold and mildew. The walls and benches are grimy which they hide with special lighting. The sushi rolls are 1/3 times the size of normal sushi. The last time I ate there I couldn't eat what I bought because the ingredients were bad tasting and of poor quality. The service is pretty and it seems to be blowfish's only redeeming quality. food? It was stomach turning. Never again.

Casn you believe the newspaper gave this palce a thumb up? The silly writer on the payol no doubt. This joint is going the way of the leg warmer no doubt. Crzay ambiance matched by the crazy idea that someone would put this food into his mouth. If you know sushi you know this place blows.

Based on a review in Toronto Star we headed here for some sashimi and/or Japanese meat and were disappointed. You could tell the crowd is a buncha hispetrs who are eyeinge ach other. Hell, they were also eyeing the sexy waitresses. Food? Had better sushi at Mandarin.

topped off a trendy crowd that obviously has no clue. This restaurant has interesting lighting and is different 9at least something) but stay away from Blowfish if your party is in it for the food.
Way too much expensive to make sense the place is not worth the headache or dull food.

Dinner at Blowfish was an exceedingly annoying experience. We took a friend for her birthday and it ended up costing us all a fortune for food that no one even liked. I ordered the Okinawan roll, which contains yam, banana and avocado. It seemed weird, but I wanted to try something different. It was so gross that it was almost a blessing that the portion was so small. The Saketini was fine, but not worth the $15 I paid for it. The service was slow and the restaurant was so loud that no one could have a conversation. Will not be heading back there any time soon.

but I have to be crass. It is oh so very right for this place. The fish in this place blows. They should frankly remove the word 'fish' from their name. This place does not know fish, does not do fish (well) and is a trendy hop, which i predict will be changing its name in one year. These type of places live off the word-of-mouth of hipsters for a year before the crowd moves on.
The owners must have spent three times more on the lighting and ambiance than on food training or chef salaries.

If you are looking for sushi...try Nami. Maybe my expectations were too high, but this is not a sushi resatuarant and it has no busniess claiming to be one. The rolls were mediocre and thier sushi list is far from extensive. Our service was awful considering the prices and we had to get up from the table to obtain our own soy sauce. These servers need to learn to be more attentive...but then again, it is King West. On another note, don't know who designed the place but the bathrooms were disguisting and awkward. The bathrooms looked like airplain pod restrooms (which stunk) and you wash your hands in some communial bathing area with no control over waterflow. What baffles me is that this place was packed! Will NOT return.

As if the name didn't give it away in a jiffy this is the end all of pretensions on the King West strip. I have not much good to say about restaurants that pretend to be Japanese but focus on modern decor instead, but there is a legitimate market for such restaurants and Blowfish fits the bill.
The lobster is average based on our order.
Perhaps food is not as important sometimes and this place has a purpose. Just don't expect quality fish.

J I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. It is fairly tricky to actually get to, being from out of town (in the old Bank of Toronto building) which has no sign in front. The interior was clean and cool done in a minimalist modern fashion. I noticed that one of the previous reviewers mentioned about the lighting, when I visited Blow Fish yesterday there was warm yellowish lighting giving a very flattering appearance not only to the food but also to the people in the space (however it does apparently change to a lounge after 11:00 so maybe the lighting changes then). The service was great! We actually got lost and had to phone the restaurant to get directions before getting there. Each item of food that we ordered was a serious work of art, perfectly arranged, and incredibly delicious. I thought that the food itself is honestly worth every cent (the kiwi lobster was 18.00 a roll) but the saktinis were slightly over priced (but still delicious at 13-18.00 a pop). Every day the sorbets change (when we went their was lychee, raspberry and mango). I want to visit this restaurant again very soon! Great experience. I would definitely recommend making reservations before hand though, especially on weekends.
- Order: Miso Soup, Acai Tuna tower & wonton ships, Kiwi Lobster rolls, Blue Anow Acai, Lychee Sorbet
