Mama Alfa's Pizzeria Inc

I can honestly say that the greatest meals that I have had in Thunder Bay have been at Mama Alfa's. Just as importantly, they have each been served by Alfa and her husband Ralph, who treat each diner like a guest in their home. This is Italian home cooking at its best!

We were recommended this lovely restaurant by the staff at the Valhalla Inn.
We were not disappointed in the least .
The dinner was chosen by Mama herself.
The Caeser salad was absolutely fantastic and is by far the best I ever had!!
The pasta we were told is not always available and is best done by reservation.
We ened up having stuffed shells,caesar salad,min calzones ( a house favourite) and a bottle of Chianti.
Our hosts Ralph and Alfa treated us as family.
They make you feels so welcome.
Other staff were great as well including lovely Kayla who is so shy you can barely get here out of the kitchen.

Two thumbs way up for a fabulous evening of fine food & entertainment. My friends had made reservations for us to attend a dinner show when I visited on Feb. 7th. I wasn't expecting such quality in a city of this size. The food kept coming until we couldn't eat anymore. I've never tasted anything like the mini calzones that we had & I want to know what was in the Caesar salad. There must be some secret because I always have it when I eat out & now I'm spoiled. The show was so much fun we laughed all the way home. I would go & see it again. I can't describe the atmosphere - it felt like you were at a friends house getting waited on hand & foot while having a live performance just for you. I almost lost my husband to the sexy magician's assistant & I have to say that we couldn't figure out how he did the tricks. We're still talking about it!

We went to Alfas's on a Wednesday night and were surprised to find a booth large enough for our group of 10.
We had called ahead and preordered spagetti and meatballs.
Alfa herself brought out huge plates of the best ever caeser salad with hot garlic cheese toast.
The spagetti and meatballs arrived in large family size bowls which was even too much for 10 very hungry men.
Alfa even brought out items we hadn't ordered such as homemade Italian sausage
The wine was very reasonable priced and of excellent quality.
As great as the food was .The service and frienship provided by Alfa and Ralph is unbeatable
I highly recommend Mama Alfa's but advise you to call ahead for any speciallty orders or large groups.

We went for pizza & stayed for the entertainment. Imagine our surprise when an act that was booked for the weekend showed up to do a rehearsal right in front of us. We thoroughly enjoyed the show & the best pizza in town. We even got to participate & were called onstage for the magic act. It was a very fun night out.

Where do I start! From the moment you walk in the aroma takes you away. I felt like I was visiting friends that just happened to have the best ever italian food in the world. I have not had a dinner experience like this where the owners take such good care of you that you feel the need to personally thank them before leaving. By far this is the most amazing reataurant I have ever visited, the atmosphere is so great that you become friends not only with the owners but also the customers.

The menu said that the Spaghetti and Meatballs were "to die for."

I say they are something to live for.

I was presented with a generous portion of pasta and sauce, with two fair-sized meatballs tucked neatly at the top of the plate. The flavours and textures complemented each other perfectly. The rich and buttery homemade spaghetti gave me a warm glowing happiness in my belly. It kind of felt like love.

Don't be fooled by the neighbourhood that Mama Alfa's is nestled in, it's a wonderful restaurant with delicious food and an inordinate amount of family friendly warmth - worth the drive! Mama is a wonderful woman who genuinely cares about your dining experience. The food is made from scratch and absolutely lovely. Thank you mama for a wonderful night!

Mama Alfa's is my all time favorite restaurant. I have never eaten better. Mama Alfa makes everything by hand just as she cooks at home! My favorite meal would be a risotto dish, wedding soup, caesar salad and tiramisu for dessert accompanied with a wine from a great wine selection.

Aside from the food, Mama Alfa and her husband Ralph's warm personalities are overwhelming. They really want to meet their customers and visit with you. They have instilled this warmth into all of their staff as well. I eventually got to know all of the staff on a first name basis! This is not your everyday dining experience.

I've since moved from Thunder Bay but I really miss Ralph's stories and Mama Alfa's chats and hugs.
