  • We love going to UpFront! I would eat there every day if I could. There is always something new to try and the dishes are delicious. I have never been let down. The atmosphere is soothing, it is all around a great experience. There is no other restaurant that even comes close to this in Strathroy.

  • Order: The last time we went, we had the full East Indian - so fabulous!!!

  • UpFront is our new favorite restaurant, the food is fantastic and the staff and owners are wonderful. The ever changing menu makes it exciting to go back time and time again. What a wonderful atmosphere both inside and out.Strathroy should be proud to have such a quality place to dine.We come from London to eat there at least 6-7 times a year and it is worth it every time!

  • I went to this restaurant when it first opened up and honestly wasn't really impressed. Several years later we passed the restaurant during the Turkeyfest and noticed that they had a new patio ~ it was packed, and it looked really classy. The kitchen is outside (clean) and the light jazz music was terrific.
My mother and I didn't have any other plans and it was a beautiful night. We decided to go sit on a patio, and honestly, not a lot to choose from for nice patios in Strathroy!
When we arrived we were seated immediately and the server was friendly and helpful. She knew the specials and the wine list without any trouble.
We ordered wine, spring rolls, the Greek Beef Burger and the BBQ UFC Turkey Burger, both with Traditional Greek salad. The vegetables were fresh, the Greek salad was actually traditional (no lettuce) and the Burgers were very tasty. The meals were delicious and presented beautifully. We have recently dined at Tru and Waldos in London - this restaurant is definitely in the same class.
We've already made plans to return with our spouses. Who would have thought you could have such a tasty experience in the little town of Strathroy!

  • I am not a regular at UpFront Cafe, and I was glad to have such an enjoyable first meal at their quant little restaraunt in downtown Strathroy. The patio was very alluring, and after we were welcomed in, we were offered blankets to keep us warm. Later in the evening, candles were lit and spread across the bar and on the tables, and when accompanied with the changing streetlights, it all provided a romantic setting.

My husband I were pleased to find a variety of dishes on the menu including an interesting list of cocktails. All the dishes were cooked to perfection, and the service -- hostess, waitress, bartender -- was amazing, as each individual was witty and welcoming. Something I was not used to, was the presence of the owners and chefs who are also husband and wife. They were good for a laugh, served excellent food, and their restaraunt name describes them to a tee: upfront.

There is no doubt in my mind that this restaraunt will continue to have success in the future, and I hope they are able to manage increasing amounts of customers while still keeping their homey atmosphere (as well as their sanity!!)

Thank you for a lovely evening, and we will most definitely see you soon!

  • We have visited this restaurant many times. The food has always been very good. The service provided by the very busy waitress has been excellent. However, the management attitude, of both husband & wife to customers, is unacceptable. The wife frequently appears to be in a bad mood & the husband (chef) is condescending.

Our latest & last experience of their poor attitude was at lunch November 12th. Three of us ordered a glass of red house wine. Two arrived & then the waitress returned with the third. The third had half as much wine as the first two !!! When asked why, the waitress said that the owner told her she had poured too much in the first two so he "adjusted" the third to compensate !!!!
    This is incomprehensable.
Unfortunately we were called away due to an emergency so never got to approach the owner on this. I do know that we will never return there again.

  • My Husband and I decided to make reservations at the Upfront Cafe for our 7th Anniversary. We had never dined there before but passed by the patio a few times this summer and were very interested in trying it out. I called Friday night and made reservations for 730pm on Saturday. I talked to the owner about his menu because my husband is a very plain eater, and i love to try new things. He assured me that they would have all sorts of things to offer and it was the last weekend for their patio menu.

My husband and I arrived at 730 on Saturday and our table was awaiting us on the patio. The Ambiance was beautiful, candlelight, soft music, and a beautifully landscaped patio with beautiful hanging baskets. They even offered me a blanket as it was quite cool out.

We waited about 15 min for our waitress to ask us what we wanted to drink. We ordered a beer and a glass of wine. When she came with our drinks we ordered our meal. Both of us ordered Steak, with Mushrooms and a Ceasar Salad on the side. My husband originally asked for a Pasta dish and they said they were all out. After about an hour of waiting our waitress approached us and said " We are all out of mushrooms is that ok?" We thought what else are we going to order now it's already been an hour. Then we recieved our meal...which was quite delicious. Cooked perfectly and quite tastey. After eating our meal our glasses were empty and so were our plates. We waited about 20 min for the waitress to come by, we then asked for our bill. She came back with it and never came back see how were paying. So we wen't into the restaurant and paid at the counter. A women in a cooks uniform asked us how we liked our meal?? Was it cooked the way we liked it ect. We then told her about our dissapointing experience...she chose to ignore us. It was quite rude.

It was the first time in a long time my husband and I were able to get out for dinner...next time we'll just go to London.

  • Order: Wine, Beer, Steak with Mushrooms and Ceasar Salad

  • I have stopped in Upfront Cafe before for a latte occasionally or for a desert with my daughter. However, a couple weeks ago my husband and I, along with our daughter and my mother, had decided to try Upfront for a special family dinner. We could not have been more pleased. The environment was so charming and different from anything else in our little town. We sat on the patio, which was lovely. Also, we were greeted with a smile from a friendly young hostess and felt very welcome. Although the restaurant was rather busy, (it was a Saturday evening) we felt as though we were being looked after very well and treated nicely by all staff. We had started off with appetizers. My daughter and I shared the lobster dip with pita and my husband ordered a rather generous ceasar salad. The dip was wonderful, and was hot when we recieved it as well. As for our main courses, I had ordered the Kung Pow Noodles. There were delicious, and even the dish it was served in was unique and quiant. My husband had ordered ribs. He not only got a large plate full, but they were accompanied by a mixture of fresh vegetables and also purple potatoes. My daughter had ordered a chicken curry dish, and the cook even made her order 'extra spicy' at her request, which was nice. My mother (who is glueten-free) still found the menu to have multiple choices for her dietary needs. She had choosen a grilled chicken mixed greens salad. As a bit of a food critic herself (he he) she could not have spoken more highly of how much she enjoyed her meal. After our entrees, us girls had decided to go with some desert. Between the three of us we shared a slice of death by chocolate and a slice of new york cheesecake. Both were just heavenly! My husband had just gone with a dark roast coffee, and again our server was excellent at making sure he was topped up whenever he needed more. We were so impressed by the young man serving us (who was also a busy bartender!). He was completely attentive and so witty. Our visit overall to Upfront was just wonderful, and we even stayed about 45 mintues after our meals just to enjoy the atmosphere and a good bottle of wine! Cheers Upfront!

  • We have been to this restaurant a few times before and have found the service to be hit and miss. The food is quite good, when you get it. It seems as though the owner is the only one that is cooking, and takes his time doing one meal at a time. We were there recently to celebrate a special occasion for our mother. Most of us arrived at 6:30. We ordered appetizers and then the final 2 of our party arrived. We placed all the dinner orders at the same time, at 7:30. At 8:25 we started to ask about our meal. Its coming, we are busy is what we were told. One person in our party had to pick up her child at 9:00, so advised the waiter of this. He came back and said he could put a rush on it. Her meal arrived at 8:40. Only her meal. Another 2 meals came at 8:50. We then noticed that smaller tables around us were getting ther meals, and they had only come into the restaurant about 30 minutes ago! I then went up and spoke to the owner who proceeded to tell me that yes, he knew our orders were late and that we had been waiting, he did not offer an apology at all. Our meals continued to come out one by one utnil the final one at 9:20. We would have loved to order desert and coffee, and enjoy the special occasion, but were afraid of how much longer it would take as we had been there for 3 hours already! When the bill came, there was no discount offered whatsoever, and as a matter of fact, they added 20% onto the bill as the gratuity! Some of us chose to remove this, which was a shame cus it really wasnt the servers fault. As I have said, the food is quite good, with variety and uniqueness, so it is a real shame that the service or lack of care is so bad. We will be thinking twice about going here again, which is a shame, as we like the food, but don't feel the business is appreciated.
