Rundles has lost it. It used to be a fun place to go when we first started going to Stratford, probably 20 years ago. We have watched it evolve into a pretentious, snobbish, wannabe qourmet dining place. The last visit was way too expensive for the quality of the food. I tried to communicate to them in a letter afterwards how I felt, about the prices and the miniscule portions and I got a response back that was so arrogant and egotistical in which they called me inappropriate and abnormal and basically said that there must be something wrong with me because I had the audacity to criticize. I quote from James Morris' letter " I have to say that you complaining over a mere $189" sounds completely ridiculous".
Who needs places like this anymore? - Order: Tomato Caprese (they called it something else) and Boiled Lamb in an tepid broth (it has a much fancier name)

Rundles is our favourite restaurant in Stratford! We have been enjoying Rundles since the late 1970’s through all the ups and downs at the now Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Rundles has been consistently good, the staff caring and courteous, the cuisine inventive and innovative, and the food sensational. From pre-theatre dinner in the lovingly appointed River Room, to after theatre desserts, to lunch before the play and to one of our favourite
experiences, the Rundles picnic, we have never been disappointed and that is saying a lot as we are real food enthusiasts. Recently we had a fabulous dinner on a Saturday night before the play and were so impressed that we asked for a picnic to be prepared for us and it was
served with the lovely china and cutlery from the restaurant. If you like something a bit less pricey and casual you can try the Sophisto-Bistro at Rundles. If you like really good food, wine and a wonderful experience in an eclectic setting, then Rundles is for you!

Over the top, and wonderfully so. Best meal in Stratford this past weekend. I don't know how anyone could not like this restaurant, it's one of the best in North America.

Rundles 'proper' is always on my list of restaurants to frequent when in Stratford.
I've been going here since they opened in 1977, and have never been dissappointed.
Wine list is well put together, with all sorts of gems available.
Cheers to Rundles!
- Order: A proper Martini; cold poached lobster ($20 extra... totally worth it!); Ontario lamb 'sous vide'; Armagnac and walnut parfait.

Rundles is my favourite restaurant in Stratford, and one of the best restaurants I've ever dined at in North America. j (You can't dine this nicely in supposedly modern restaurants in Europe... All the elements at Rundles are finely tuned.)
The cuisine is so forward-thinking, the service staff are brilliant with amazing uniforms sourced from haute couture houses in London and Paris, to the ecclectic wine list that matches the food so nicely.
You either get Rundles, or, you don't.
If you know nothing about modern architecture, and think cheap tablecloth rentals and linens with silver adorning tables is fine dining, well, don't waste your time visiting Rundles, because you'll entirely miss the point.
So what if the washrooms are on the second floor, it is good exercise!
Rundles is not for everyone, and that is it's charm.
Cheers,
J.M.

Amazing. This was my best culinary experience to date. It has obvious French connection, which is apparent in the serving sizes, but it was quite enough. Anyone complaining should think about that first. The meal was obviously to please, and it did so easily with me.
Service was excellent. There is no other way to describe it. The servers knew all about the food and wine, and were very attentive.
The drinks were nothing short of amazing, and I commend the Bartender with utmost respect.
Rundles is easily the best in Stratford, and beats all others by a longshot. Well done. - Order: Chikutery, Veal Cheeks, Creme Brulee

I always enjoy dining at Rundles when I visit Stratford. The food is always inventive, the service gracious yet professional, and the decor is minimal and calming to the senses.
This restaurant is the best of the best in Stratford, and one of my favourite restaurants in the world.
Cheers to Rundles!

Good food. Imaginative menu. Too much salt and pepper for our taste. Attentive service. "Precious" atmosphere. Pricey. Small but adequate portions.
NO a la carte service. Prix fixee in dining room offers more food than we wanted and at a higher price. So we preferred the prix fixee in the Bistro. - Order: Charcuterie, lemongrass soup, quail

Really, Kathy Bell, Richard Maloney, Mike Fullerton, and service crew were absolutely brilliant in their service work. I cannot understand negative comments on this site, as Rundles is the best restaurant in Canada, in North America, if not, the World.
Chef Neil Baxter is the best chef working in Canada, and with the proprietor Mr. James Morris, watching over the door, everything is perfect about this operation. Nothing is over-looked, forgotten, or missed.
Cheers to Rundles!
Yours truly,
Gordon Morris
- Order: Rundles: one either loves it, or loves to hate it... No one here has really commented on their decor and architecture, as I think it is so perfectly done. Firstly, when I visited on their last dinner service of 2007, I ordered their Tasmanian ocean trout tartare with green mango and spicy dressing - it was fresher than fresh in taste, and simply, this was so lovely. Not that I am vegetarian by any means, I decided to order their vegetarian potato wrapped spring-like rolls, stuffed with grains and legumes, with a somewhat spicy but fresh Mexican-inspired tomato sauce... Surely, one of the best vegetarian main dishes I have tasted to date. To end it all, I just had to order my perennial favourite from Rundles, their glazed lemon tart, with orange sorbet. This is the best dessert in Canada.

This is my favourite restaurant in the world! How could anyone say anything bad about it? Go somewhere else if you do not like minimal cuisine, decor, and enlightened, polished service.
Rundles is perfect. - Order: Ordered their lovely Provencale fish soup as my first course. The salt cod fritters that accompanied this soup were amazing. My main course was a wonderful hanger steak, with Mexican inspired garnishes. The onglet was cooked perfectly. For dessert, I tried their ginger flavoured creme brulee, and it was to die for. Yummy!
