Raja Fine Indian Cuisine

Visited the restuarant prior to a show at Stratford and ordered the pre theatre meal for two.
The servers were very friendly and helpful to us and to tables asking for advice on what to order. The food was hot and timely. All the dishes tasted great.

The food at Raja is amazing. Beautifully prepared and presented. Friendly staff and owner. We're from the UK and have eaten at many Indian restaurants in England and Scotland. Raja is as good if not better.

Having tickets to see a play in Stratford, we decided to search the internet for a good restaurant to dine at to complete our day in this lovely town. We selected Raja based upon the many good reviews that were written about it. Well, we were certainly not disappointed. The atmosphere of the restaurant was delightful, the food was excellent, and the service was second to none. Not having much experience with Indian cuisine, we decided on the sampler dinner for two, and all of the dishes were very good. We had several people attending to us, and the service was indeed exceptional. After eating, 'the boss" sent over after-dinner drinks for us. Very thoughtful, and much appreciated. We would recommend this fine restaurant to all of our families and friends, and would not hesitate at all to revisit.

My husband and I dined at Raja's for our anniversary. His sister lives in Stratford and highly recommended it, and after reading the reviews here we decided to give it a try.

We weren't disappointed!! The food was excellent, and the service was impecable! Our server was very friendly, and the owner was on hand to help serve and greet his customers.

Some of the other reviews mentioned slow service, but we found the service to be very prompt. After we told our server that we weren't in a hurry, we never felt rushed. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We can't remember when we've had better table service!

I often visit Restaurantica to read the reviews, but not until Rajas have I felt that the experience was worthy of a review.

The dinner for two is a sampler of a variety of Indian dishes. It was a great choice since our experience with Indian cuisine was limited. When we go again I will definately order the onion bhajee appetizer.

Appetizers, dinner, dessert, and a bottle of wine, $125.

We would highly recommend Rajas to anyone visiting Stratford.

This place is located a half block from the Avon theatre on George St. directly across from the police station.

Raja has been at this location for several years. It took the place of another Indian restaurant at the same location which failed to make it. Now normally openly a new restaurant with the same cusine in the same location as a restaurant that bit the dust would seem to be the kiss of death.....in this case not so. Raja has endured and some would say flourished at this location.

Entrance is off the side of the building next to the LCBO parking lot. The interior is parlour like (not THE Parlour but like a parlour). The space is warm and soothing. Tables are eligantly set including white linens and gives an feel of rich opulance. The occassion for the visit was my father's 79th birthday. Neither he nor my mother are particluarly experts on Indian food and I would not say I am an expert either but I am probably a few levels ahead of them. I enjoy the flavours and smells of Indian food and I know my mother does as well; my Dad is always game for whatever we do and I thought he might enjoy this outing...he did.

We ordered and each of us got different dishes. Lamb Curry, Butter Chicken, Tandoori chicken. The garlic Naan bread was excellent. We had samonsas as an appetizer and unfortunately that didn't appeal to Dad. They were quite good though. In fact all the food was excellent. The house red wine was very good and I unforunately can't recall if it was an Ontario wine. When the managment found out we were celebrating my Dad's birthday they offered a Baileys for each of us, on the house, to finish off the evening...nice touch.

I had seen on other restaurant sites that people had issues with service. No such thing last night. The restaurant was moderately busy and service was spot on.

This place produces some of the best Indian I have tasted and that includes many of the big city places that you would think would be able to out do it.

The food, service, atmosphere and the price is all perfect. An excellent choice in Stratford.

This was our second trip to Raja and it was in many ways the same as our first. The food is incredible, some of the best Indian food we have had in the US, UK, or Canada. We asked for it to be prepared extra hot, and trust us, it was HOT ! The Peshwari naan is fantastic for keeping the heat at bay. However, if you expect quick and/or attentive service this is not the restaurant for you. Both times we have eaten there it took 10-15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table after we were seated. A visual survey of the tables around us proved this to be the norm, not the exception. We ordered our food with our drinks, no appetizer, no dessert, and the meal was 90 minutes.
So, if you like good Indian food, make sure to get a reservation and allow plenty of time.

My husband and I go to raja everytime we are in stratford, it is such a treat, food and service are exceptional and the Ambiance is great. We would recommend this place to anyone who loves food with flavour.

The menu choice is fantastic, and our dishes tasted wonderful!

We originally booked for 6, but the host suggested we book a half hour earlier, so we followed his advice, since we know that good food takes time.

The waiter also was helpful - you almost never encounter a server who tries to undersell you or downsize your order!

Raja was amazing! I have been to several Indian cuisine establishments (coming from Toronto) and this place was amazing! The food, service and atmoshpere were exceptional and the smells that came from that tandoor oven were AMAZING! Not only did they know how to make excellent drinks (try thier fuzzy navel), but they know how to take care of their customers, before we left to see Hamlet after dinner, the manager offered us an after dinner drink on the house! It was amazing! Very clean, hospitable and so Friendly! If you try this place, and you have to try the butter chicken and Tandoori Chicken! ENJOY!

We live very close to Stratford and we always take guests here. The service is very good, strike that, excellent, and reasonably priced. We've done the take out several times - very good deal and ... my mouth is watering just thinking about it - I only came to this site to find the phone number!! Thought I'd better say something.
p.s the revue there by Jeff J is simply incorrect - must be mistaking it for another restaurant or something $50-$99 per person???!!! How many bottles of wine did you have Jeff? We get the take out meal for 2 for around $43 and it lasts all weekend, sure you pay more when you eat in but we have never paid even $50 per person including wine and doggy bags to take home (we don't have a dog, but don't tell them)!!!
