Dave's is located in the Sobey's Plaza at the corner of John and Lorne Ave.
Dave's has been around for years and has a substantial following. It has been some time since we had been in (maybe a year of more) so we decided to try it on Sunday.
The space is on the end of the plaza with windows at the front and down the side of the space. The entry is ackward as the air lock is small and the interior door drops you right at the cash counter. For some unknown reason they put a table directly infront of the cash counter and in the path of the in and out going traffic...the table had a few baked goods for sale. Needless to say it causes and traffic jam.
Tables are 4's along the windows and down the length of the place, 2's along the center and rather odd booths along the inside wall that separates the kicthen from the dining room. Access to the kitchen is beside the cash and seems ackward...much like the entry.
There is something about this place that does not sit right with me and it is hard to describe. It isn't dirty, but some how doesn't seems clean...the tables seem too cramped, the lighting seems odd and almost TV studio bright, the booth seats are not anchored so end up katty-wankers, tables need new covers...the list goes on.
We recalled the last time we were in and remarked that the wait staff seemed to be in a fog. This time a couple seemed to have their act together, but alas we go the one that was clueless. There seems to be altogether too many wait staff for a place this size. Our guy asked if we wanted something to drink and brought it and then seemed to forget about us. Another guy took our order finally and a 3rd person brough our food. GF asked for some mayo on the side...I finally got up and went over to the kitchen to get ask for it, because skippy the wonder waiter had obviously forgot. We were never asked if we wanted a refill on coffee or hot water for the tea. In fact they never brought the bill. We made our way through the obsticle course to the cash and got the bill there and paid.
The breakfast menu is very limited. Certainly they could take a page or two out of Features. It was after 11:00am when we stopped in and nothing on the limited breakfast menu appealed to me so I ordered a club sandwich. It is not bad, real bacon, real turkey and fresh tomato and lettuce. The fries where good too...small, fresh cut and nicely seasoned. GF's egg's over easy, toast, pea meal bacon and breakfast potatoes where fine but really nothing to rave about.
If this is your favourite place for breakfast in town then perhaps give another place or two a try. Lots of people seem to like Dave's and I am sure thats good for Dave.
We now recall why we haven't been in for over a year and figure it will be at least that long until we try again.

If you don't mind a cheap set up, or the odd hair on your glass, the food here is great. I've been here many times and the fries and chicken strips are really good. I don't understand why but the odd time you will see the freakiest scariest looking customers.... watch out for that :)

Can't beat the price. It's a local diner so it's very handy for us. But it's still the best breakfast place in town. We have been often and will continue to go. Can't beat the pancakes!

Well lets start out by saying, Daves Diner is probally the best place it town, you dont wanna goto no crappy place like Black Angus's were your food is cold, and its just a BAD restaurant, and you dont wanna goto places like Crabby Joes, cause its VERY BAD staff, Crapppy food, basically they just suck, basically just goto Daves Diner best dang food in town.
