  • This is located inside the Queen's Inn at the corner of Waterloo and Ontario Streets.

We had finished watch the girls play in the first game of the weekend long ball tournement on Friday evening and had not had anything to eat. GF's daughter was off with some friends to go swiming so we had our choice of were to go. Boar's Head was the choice.

This was origanally built as the brew pub in the days when Cro Taylor tried to recreate the Queen's after years of decline. Sometimes the misguided ideas of a guy with more money than brains turn out badly for him but years later turn out well for the people who pick up the pieces. We have yet to go into the place and not find it busy. Gone of course are the days of the old Edinbourgh lounge and the $1.00 glass of draft beer. You and a buddy could go in and have 10 drafts and ten bucks later you weren't in the poor house.

The Boar's head does not follow the $1 a glass rule but the beer is well priced at under $5 for a 20 oz glass of Rickards Red. Pitchers of Coors Light (friends were downing those) were reasonable too. The place is small with a main area and bar with lots of wood and a second area where Cro used to have his brew pub stuff. We sat in the second area.

We both ordered the club sandwich on a vienna roll. GF with fries and me with Onion rings. I always get nervous when places stray from the traditional way of making a club....Bentley's being a good example as their club is dry and almost tasteless on a huge roll of some sort. Not the Boars Head. Sandwich was excellent. The rings were good too. GF said the fries were ok and could have used another 30 seconds in the frier. The menu is extensive but sticks to pub food and does not try to reach beyond it.

Friends arrived just after we placed our order and they ordered, spliting a chicken ceasar salad and 2 pounds of wings...mild (no sense of adventure). The ceasar looked quite good with ample dressing and nice pieces of chicken. They raved about the wings so when they arrived we took one each and I must admitt they were very good. I would have ordered medium.

A folk singer was playing tunes and only now and then was annoying. Another couple arrived and did not eat so we spent the next couple of hours chatting laughing and generally enjoying the atmosphere of the place. A good number of Rickards and Cornona's later GF and I were ready to leave. The bill a reasonable $50 for the evening.

    Boar's head....nice pub. We'll be back.

  • My wife and I enjoyed an excellent dinner along with a few drinks before attending a play on a Friday night. The service was quick, the food was plentiful, along with a decent atmosphere. The real surprise came afterward. We returned to the Boar's Head to have a few drinks after the play. The bar was quite full around 11pm with a great band playing to a mid-twenties and early thirties crowd. The two bartenders Kyle and Jesse were worth showing up for alone. They not only provided excellent service with a smile, they were as entertaining to watch as the band. Throwing little jokes back and forth between each other and patrons while putting on a show for the crowd. I would highly recommend stepping in for a beer anytime if the two young gentlemen are working the night. The Boars Head is a great place for some pub style food and a few drinks, the staff make it worth the trip.

  • Order: We ordered a burger and wings.

  • The regular bar staff is the best in town. Friendly, on top of things, never have to wait for a drink. It could be a little cleaner and the food could be more consistent but the staff makes it worth going back for.
