Mona's Roti-Caribbean Food

I think foodcritic was alot closer to the truth than sunshinefood . For a supposed best roti shop in the city, they are not that great, in fact the rotis, which are supposedly made fresh are not like back home, they had a bad stench to them. The chicken seemed old, the jerk sauce was very salty, the line-up is not worth the wait, to get crappy roti's and chicken, this was not a good licken. Get real sunshine or is this mona rating her own feedback get a life and learn to rock out some real carribean food good old mona. I think I will stick to the Brampton area rotis which seem alot better.

I've visited Mona's twice.
Both times the roti was lukewarm and small.
The curry/masala was decent and the vegetarian dishes were decent enough to warrant a third try.
Not a bad place, but definitely nothing to write home about. Compared to other roti places you can drive to, I wouldn't drive out here to get a roti - if you're in the area though, they're worth a stop by for a taste.

I had to leave a review on this restaurant after reading an amazingly negative review by a self proclaimed food critic. I don't know what this guy is talking about (but it seems most of the reviews he/she gives are negative), but i visit this place weekly. It pretty much does not matter what day you go, there will be a line up almost out the door. The atmosphere is crazy and will remind any Caribbean person of the hustle of a "back home" popular eating joint. Caribbean music in the background, one of the owning family chatting with customers, Open concept kitchen where you can see the entire cooking and prep area. Nothing hidden in here. The food is always good. The roti is made daily and most times you can get one hot off the stove. The curry used is not dark and thick, but lighter almost like an east asian curry. The Jerk Chicken is very tasty, not too spicy, but full of the flavour and finally the doubles..man..can something that taste this good be bad for you? doubles are fried so they really can't be super good for you, but wow what amazing flavour. All in all I have had many great meals here..and yes sometimes maybe i don't get served as fast as i would like, but i do not doubt the sincerity of this place.

I have gone to every carribean restaurant in the gta and york region, and this place is by far the worst tasting food I have ever had, and basically I have tried them all, I don't know how people could brag about tasteless carribean food, The food was wasn't fresh and it was bland. The beef stew was dry and seemed tasteless. I also had the boneless jerk chicken roti, I can not believe what boneless means to them,they took a chicken leg and chopped it to little pieces with carlidge still in it, I almost broke my tooth while eating this roti. I also ordered vegtables with no taste, I thought I was getting some carribean flavors and all I got was boiled spinach with no tasted, and green beans with no flavour, how could this food be considered the best carribean food, like advertised, this is the worst carribean food in the GTA and surrounding areas, never again, people who want to try this don't, it sucks its really bad.

I have tried a lot of Roti, but this place took me back to my home in TnT. The Dahlpourie was rolled and cooked right before my eyes. Hot, soft and thin, with dahl right to the ends. A thing of beauty. Parking lot was really busy, but well worth the effort to get in the door

This place is consitently one of the better Caribbean Food Joints in the city. Open concept from front to back, so you can see everything being made. Price is comparable with other establishments and in my mind worth a premium to see your food being cooked. Keep up the great work.

I would not encourage people to rip support rip offs.

I like the daughters!! Plesant service...the people are nice people.

Jerk Chicken tasted really good, and they give good portions, and the rice and peas are great aswell.

I had the worst roti experience ever. I got sick from stale roti and spoil curry. I'm going back to my original favorite place. Roti Hut!!!!
