Like many people from the Port Stanley/St thomas area, I have been going to Mackies all of my life. As a kid, my parents took me there on special occasions. As a teenager, we skipped school to go to the beach, and Mackies was always on the agenda. Since then, the food has gone so far down hill, that it is purely location that is keeping them in business. The Orangeade is watered down. No footlong hotdogs, frozen nasty burgers, and so much more. But more so than anything else.....The fries. For those of you who have not been there for a while, let me tell you. They have switched from the great fresh cut fires, to frozen shipped in coated fries. The coated fries do not taste as good with the Mackies sauce, and most of all for my family, if you have any problems with Gluten, you can no longer have their fries. With allergies and celiacs desease on the increase, they have just iscolated an entire group of people. Who can no longer eat there. My son has always enjoyed going to Mackies for french fries as a treat. He can not eat fries most places because he is deathly allergic to wheat. Mackies was always an option. No more!!!! So, no more beach for our family. To the new management, I have only one suggestion. Go back to the basics. Like the good old days. Make the food good, with good service and you will never faulter. So many of us come purely for sentimental reasons. Keep the quality and we will always come back!! But for now anyways, good bye Mackies. I will miss you!!!

My son and daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren and I were in Port Stanley on Tuesday. I insisted upon going to Mackie's because I remembered going there as a child and also bringing my own children there when they were young. They used to have foot-long hotdogs and the best orangeade ever. Extremely disappointing! No more foot-longs, and the orangeade seemed watered down. The fries weren't very good either, and the small hotdogs were no better. What happened? New management cheaped out or something. They have shot themselves in the foot. If it weren't for the location of the place, I would probably not return.

A very large cafeteria style restaurant on the beach in Port Stanley. Open concept is the name of the game here. Lots of booths to sit in with a very long line up area, a condiment stand, and large video game area for the kiddies or those inclined. Overall the place seems bleak though. When I went it was very busy. There were probably 50-60 people in line. Service was pretty quick when you think about how many people were waiting in line, I might have waited 20-25 minutes. But the servers are all high school kids who don't give a rats behind, and I don't blame them really. I probably wouldn't be overly friendly either if I had to take 400-500 orders a day.
I had fries and a bacon cheeseburger. Frozen patties are used here, and the buns are the cheap wonder bread kind. Fries were just ok, but the saving grace was the sauce they come with. I also put it on my burger to make it more appealing.
My meal was about $8.50, and my partners was the same. It was about $20.00 for the pair of us to eat here. Normally for a meal I don't mind paying that or much more, but the food here is average at best, and the only reason people go here is because of the convenient location to the beach.
Overall, long wait times, average food at best, prohibitive pricing, and standard service. I probably won't go back unless I have no other options. Why would you wait in line 30 minutes to over pay for mediocrity?

Service was nothing special, teenagers who don't care. Prices are ridiculously expensive for what you get. Loud atmosphere (which I expected) and overall nothing to write home about...

The food is amazing! You're at the beach so stop complaining about young kids running around, and the noise! (It's not fine dinning and if that's what you're looking for you went to the wrong place!) I have loved Mackies since the first time I went.. When I was like 3!

I visited Mackies in Port Stanley, Ontario because I heard so much about their fries. We bought a family size (the largest size they have). I can honestly say the fries were not spectacular, as I was expecting. They were very similar to the ones at Swiss Chalet. The 'secret sauce' was also similar to the Chalet dipping sauce. Overall, the fries were good, they didn't overwhelme me. The server was very pleasant and helpful. The decor was like some old fashioned restaurant with some old video games.

We arrived looking to try the fries and that famous sauce since we had been in town but they don't take debit or credit cards. We left to find an ATM (at mac's a mile away) and returned to notice that they have one of those $4 ATM's in the corner...would have been nice to know since the girl at the counter said she didn't know where in town to find one. The fries took a while but were kind of good, the wild screaming children running all over were kind of hard to not trip on. In my opinion the place is kind of a run down hole cafeteria with a bunch of old (but not good) video games, half of which were out of order.
