we have been in Peterborough a few years and have heard about Rolands. We were looking forward to a fine dining experience....we will not be back. The atmosphere resembled a banquet hall, the entrance and the room smelled of cotton balls and the food was average. The waiter was pleasant and the service was good, however that is not enough to bring us back.
- A superior and comfortable dining experience.

If you are tired of the usual francise restaurants that offer the same low to mediocre food quality and service, Roland's is a refreshing change out of the ordinary. I was impressed with the speedy yet professional and attentive service. Our waiter, a tall dark haired fellow, was extemely vigilant and ensured that all our requests were met. Everyone in my party had varying requests as to how our steaks and vegetables were to be prepared. Our expectations were met with precision and accuracy. The Lasagna was deliscious and the portion was large for a competative price. The food quality was superior to anything my family has experienced in the Peterborough area. Unfortunately, Peterborough has been overrun by "big box" corporate restaurants that offer bland, repetative and comprimising dining experiences. Roland's offers a unique flavour to the local culinary scene, it is reminiscent of an era when quality, true cooking and excellence in service was the foremost priority in dining establishments. I would recommend Roland's to anyone who enjoys fine dining, good atmosphere and supporting the local hospitality industry.
Thank you for a thoroughly satisfying experience.

Because we eat there often the staff knows our preferences. The spinach tarts and spinach as a veggie is amazing. My husband is a mussel fanatic and Rolands have the best anywhere. The staff is professional and attentive. We have never had anything but superb food each and every time. The price reflects good food properly prepared and served.

Great place to impress! I had relatives in from out of town (4 guys in total) all have healthy appetites-were we dissapointed-NO WAY!
The food/service was suberb...and the portions were spot on!!
If you are used to fine dining-you will not be dissapointed...you may be shocked at how rerasonable a fine meal is if you are used to big city prices!
Everyone should have this type of pleasurable "food experience.'''

I wanted to take my sweetie out for our 2 year anniversary and his birthday. I wanted something a little on the special side and, WOW!, it was perfect!!
I called and asked if they could accomadate a romantic evening and they were more then happy to oblige. I pre-ordered our entire meal from start to finish. They gave us our own private room, with a lit candle and flowers on the table. The bottle of wine I ordered was chilling on ice next to the table when we got there. Everything came out perfectly from our apps to the cheesecake with a candle in it. They didn't rush us in the least (although we had a later dinner at 8pm). Our bottle service was just like at any other high-class resturaunt, even though the waitress was fairly young. The ambiance was very romantic and the food was amazing!!
My sweetie was so surprised and impressed that HE offered to pay for the meal! We are definately going back and hopefully will get the same waitress. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants classy and romantic on a budget. With everything included and a very generous tip, the bill came out to less then $200!

We were in Peterborough this week for a funeral. My parents used to live in Peterborough years ago (30 +) and they suggested Rolands as they remembered it back then. We arrived and my parents said that not much had changed (interior wise). The lady who greeted us seemed very busy. She seated us by the bar.
The waiter, a tall dark haired guy, took the napkins out of our glasses and threw them on the table in front of each of us. They he gave us our menus and gave us about 5 minutes to look at them. We were with family members we hadn''t seen in quite some time, so five minutes wasn''t an adequate amount of time to order. He came back and literally rushed all of us to order our meals. He literally touched my Mums arm and asked her if she was ready to order...he decided to continue asking for everyone elses orders and then came back to my Mum. He literally took his pen and tapped my Mum''s menu to ask her if she was ready to order. He did this with the wine menu as well. Our dessert menus were basically thrown in front of us as well.
The clam chowder was interesting. To be honest, it didn''t taste anything like clam chowder at all. I''m from Nova Scotia, so perhaps I''m biased, but I wouldn''t order the chowder again.
So, my complaint is mostly with the service but the menu seemed very outdated (as did the décor) and far too expensive for what we received.
Even if we lived in Peterborough, I would not return to this restaurant, nor would I recommend it to anyone. I think that if they don''t improve their service, menu and décor, they will suffer as a business.

By far one of the nicest restaurants in PTBO. Easily overlooked, Roland's is that rare combination of semi-formal dining with a casual atmosphere for the upscale palate. The food is exceptional and if there is a problem they will bend over backwards to make it right. Also, just because it's not on the menu doesn't mean you can't ask for it. Other restaurants like Denbar's are too predictable - a dime a dozen. Rolands is a PTBO original.
- Order: Stuffed chicken / ceasar salad. Cajun seafood platter.
