Matsu Korean & Japanese Restaurant

I've been to both Hoshi Sushi and Sapporro and enjoyed both. Decided to go to Matsu after hearing a lot of good reviews, but was disappointed.

I ordered a combo meal and asked if I could substitue one of the roles and they said sure. When the food came out they did not substitute the role for what I asked and they made me feel like I didn't tell them. Anyways, they fixed the problem, but the maki was of poor quality. One of the roles was yam tampura which is usually warm - this was cold and not fresh. The other was avocado tampura and it was warm, but tasted bad that I had to spit it out.

The service was also not great in that we had to go out of our booth to ask for water and to pay because we were tired of waiting for so long.

BY FAR, my first choice! We've moved to Bowmanville and I miss this restuarant so, so much. Anytime we are in Peterborough we MAKE SURE to go. The starter soup and salads are so delicious, and the maki is to die for!! Best I've ever had! This is my family's favourite restuarant by a mile. GREAT SPOT. Discovered it 2 years ago and only wish we'd found it sooner!

This is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Peterborough. I go every chance I get. Their Sushi is to die for, and their dinner combos of equal quality. The service is over-the-top friendly, and they will bend over backward to please. Not just for Sushi lovers. They have wonderful Teriaki - chicken, salmon, beef, your pick, all good. They also do great Sushi platters to go for any event that you may have at home, and the service and quality for that is, yes, you guessed it, great.

You have to try the tempura, it is really really good but I didn't like the donburi very much. The menu is so big that it took us a while to decide, so save yourself some time and just order anything deep fried. Everyone there was extremely friendly and welcoming but our server should have checked in on us more frequently. We shared one free soup, one free salad as appetizers, and a nicely prepared orange for dessert.

The moment you walk in you're greeted out loud by the chefs. And it's awesome.
The food was very good. Matsu easily has the best japanese food in Ptbo. The waitresses would keep checking up on us every once in a while to make sure everything was ok. Even the chef came by to give us some freebies.

I also liked the layout of the restaurant a lot. You could say it was almost as welcoming as the chefs.

The minute you're spotted in the parking lot, you're a welcomed guest in this restaurant! In-your-face-friendly greeting, service staff are sweet, polite and attentive. Sushi is FABULOUS. Always have an enjoyable time here. Well done!!

We have been to Matsu Sushi (Hunter St. location) many times and will continue to frequent the restaurant.

I am continually amazed how quickly they will prepare a take out order. We often call to give them a heads up that we would like to order, and they will often tell us that it will be ready in 5 minutes!! While this might not be typical, it often happens to us!

From the high energy and sincere greeting to the wonderful food and frequent 'on the house' bites, no other sushi restaurant compares. It is a unique experience and one not to be missed when in Peterborough.

i live in peterborough and i had never been to Matsu until recently after hearing so many good things. It has become a top restaurant in my books. i was seated in a private booth after being very warmly welcomed by every single person in the restaurant, and then served by the sweetest nicest waitress who was very attentive and served us with many items "on the house".
the food is so fresh tasting and so delicious i'll never eat sushi anywhere else. on my way out i was then thanked by everyone in the restuarant, and the owner walked us to the door! such a great restaurant experience
