Denbar's Steak Chalet

My husband and I came here last Sept.19 for our anniversary. This was our first visit and certainly not the last. I had filet mignon and he had peppercorn steak and they were so delicious and very tender. We also LOVED the cheese fondue and the bruschetta. My husband also had a skewer of cajun shrimp which he raved about. Love the country atmosphere. Even though they seemed fairly busy and there seemed to be only 2 staff on the floor, the service was quick and efficient. They were also very friendly. As soon as we came home we told alot of people about this place and we can't wait to visit again. Keep up the GREAT work, guys!!!

Atmosphere is wonderful, like you are dining in a classic steak chalet in the country. This charming restaurant had great service and tasty food. They automatically bring bread with cheese fondue, the cheese fondue is nothing to write home about. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer and it was delicious! Prime rib was cooked perfectly and portion size was just right.

This place is worth the drive. They serve a decent salad, the steak and roast beef are very good. If the complimentary cheese fondue is cheeze whiz as reported by someone else then I've just become a fan of warmed up cheeze whiz! It's not often that you get a dessert between courses to clear your palate, but I like orange sorbet . It's all good in my books.

love the fondue!! We all had salad or soup (very good), then fondue!! Excellent, the best! Then a variety of steaks, surf and turf, and some even saved room for dessert. All good

Denbars is a real treat. One of the best restaurants in the area. I have eaten there three times over the last couple of years and each time we had great food and service. It is off the beaten path but well worth the drive.
We started with muscles as a appetizer, hard to screw up muscles. I had the soup it was not to my liking because it is made with smoked meat. She had a salad with dill dressing, excellent. We both had the surf and turf NY strip. the steak was small but was cooked to perfection. It was covered in a cream sauces with shrimp, lobster and crab mixed in. It was very good.

The food was worse that what you would have recieved if the steaks were from M&M meats. Small portions and lacking alot to be desired taste. The service was deplorable they were not busy and when we showed our displeasure of the food the complaints fell on deaf ears.
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ALL THE HYPE IS ABOUT THIS PLACE?? It as always busy and NOT worh the money. Drive to The Keg in Oshawa, or whitby... It will be money more well spent.

The atmosphere and ambiance were very pleasing. We found it very comfortable and layed back for a fine dining experience. we will return on not so fancy occasions now that we know it's any every day place for dinner. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was to die for. I can't remember ever having a better steak. the price was so reasonable (you would pay the same at montana's for much less)

Everyone LOVED their meal. I was shocked when I saw the other reviews here. I have been to Denbar's before and loved it then as well.

I did not find the fondue cheap or out of date. We also ordered appetizers (brushchetta and calamari). I was impressed with how well the calamari turned out. Texture was great. Nothing wrong with anything including the service so I'm not sure what happened the other nights other reviewers were there.

The flavor of the wild mushroom pate - the pastry and the fillelt mignon done to perfection - absolutely perfect! Great presentation too. Our guests enjoyed the uniqueness of the smoked flavor the their tender prime rib. The presentation of the smoked duck breast is worth another visit. My wife enjoyed the flambed presentation of the blackened steak. Instead of dessert we enjoyed Specialty Coffees.
This was our first time to visit Denbar's and we will certainly return. We had a great dining experience from the time we were greeted until we were bade good-evening.

Have had good experience there in the past. But this time my medium rare steak came out Blue and was still cold in the middle.

I had to send it back and it came back the same way only now the whole steak was cold and I was disappointed.

For such a special occassion I left with a bad taste in my mouth and one free dessert from the frozen food section of Lablaws didn't make up for it.
