Summerhays Grill

We think the place is great, are disappointed by lapotter's comments. We were at Summerhays on Friday night. It disturbs me that you consider what your child was doing was acting up a little. A child screaming like yours should not be in a restaurant at any time. What gives you the right to torture the rest of us while we try to enjoy our meals? I salute the owner for having a word with you. If you were offended, perhaps rude should be the word you use to describe your consideration for the rest of us. It is your right to complain, but please tell the whole story.

The Owner is the Rudest person ever!

We were there with are children and our young one was acting up a little and we were trying to calm her down. The owner came over and in a very rude way indicated that he was "not that type of restuarant" and basically indicated he did not want families/kids there. I talked with him when we were leaving and he was even ruder. I will never return there again!

I've been going here for a while now, and the place is hit and miss. The service is slow, usually we go in and sit down without waiting to be seated if the wait is a long one. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is either really hot or really cold, and needs to be sent back. The wings are good but sometimes have way too much sauce on them. Its recently been renovated, with nice big screen T.V.s and new lighting. Will keep going here.

Terrible experience with the owner.
What should have been a simple phone call turned ridiculously rude and sarcastic.

I called at 3:00pm in the afternoon (outside the lunch/dinner rush) and I asked to speak with the manager about placing a large order.
the person said a manager is not around but he can help.

I asked what time their wing special starts and also asked if the price for the special can be applied to take out if the order was large enough.

The person essentially laughed on the phone and asked when the last time I had been to a grocery store and seen the price of chicken.
I asked him why he had to be sarcastic and he went on about me asking him for a deal on what was already a great price.
honest to god I just asked "if the same price can be applied for take out."
he went on for a little while until I cut him off and told him I don't need his sarcasm. he hung up on me.

I called right back and asked for his name. he went on saying he doesn't have to give me his name. and in a childish way he asked what my name was.
"what is your name" i said
"what is YOUR name' he said
I couldn't believe it.

I told him I would like to know who I am talking with so that I can speak with his manager.
He finally told me his name and told me he was the owner.
I asked if that gives him the right to be rude and sarcastic. he said yes and hung up on me again.

i'm floored by this behavior. I can only think his dog just died or his wife left him. who acts like that when speaking with a customer?
make that a former customer.

I brought my group of 20 elsewhere.

Summerhays Grill has the worst food ever. It was cold and took forever to come to the table.. the appetizers were over cooked and like rubber. The service was slow NOT because it was busy. We will never go back again and all our friends will be told NOT to go there ever.

Went for a mid-morning Sunday brunch after a late night out at the bar. The place was wall-to-wall packed with people, but we were seated and served coffee right away. I had the Huevos Rancheros, and while it was tasty and certainly hit the spot, the beans were canned baked beans and the salsa certainly wasn't fresh (as was claimed in the menu). However the eggs were spot-on and the Oktoberfest sausage was a nice addition to the Rancheros.

Other people's plates, including my buddy's bacon and eggs, looked properly cooked and good quality. Great portion sizes and there are plenty of options with fresh fruit (a whole section of the menu!). Lots of great sounding crepes and such as well.

Service was phenomenal, especially since there were well over 150 people in the place. I drink coffee like a fish drinks water, and the "refill rate" pleased even me.

I would go again and recommend this place for brunch... just not the Rancheros next time!

Food was poorly executed. Seafood was overcooked, rubbery and lacked flavour. Daughter usually loves fish & chips, but even she found this too greasy.

Service was slow, but friendly.

I think SummerHays may be ok for a drink and wings, but certainly not for an enjoyable sit down meal.

Not recommended.

Always there for wings and beer, sometimes jump into the veal or french onion soup but I would never be there if it wasn't for Alex....and of course amy, kate, zarb and the rest of the gang. Keep up the great work SL see yas soon!!

Things started off badly when we arrived at 11:55am on a Saturday and after being given the breakfast menu asked for the lunch menu. Told that lunch may start at 12:30 but they would check as it varies depending on how busy they are - at that time they were not too busy (less than half the tables occupied). Then informed lunch would not start until 2pm!!! Decided to try breakfast - big mistake. Ordered but then had to wait ages (about 20-25 minutes) for food. Had to refresh our own coffee as the waitress seemed to have disappeared. When the food came the omelette was rubbery, the fries were cool/cold and the scrambled eggs were overdone. Not recommended as food and service were poor, one of the tables had been poorly cleaned and we had to scrounge cutlery from the table next to ours.

When I had moved from Stittsville to near algonquin college, i knew i would need to find a new bar/wing palace to call my home. A friend said to give Summerhays I try. 35 cent wings everyday after 2pm . And they are DECENT size (ones that dont look the remains of other wings battered over). I would say one of the best wing places i know ,and i know alot of them. Service has always been quick and its a great place to watch the game. I love this place.
