  • My girlfriend and I were looking forward to trying this new neighbourhood restaurant. It was terrible....and by that I mean the food, the atmoshphere and the pricing were off. We were the only two customers in the restaurnat, the service wasn't bad so much as weird and the food just sucked. Even the in table bbq didn't work (they brought out some sort of strange contraption as a stand in). In the end the two of us paid over $60 for a terrible meal. Never again.

  • We had a great BBQ by sharing different things from the Korean BBQ menu. I find the BBQ beef ribs to be particularly nice. Since we new the meal was going to be large we just had appetizers of steamed and fried dumplings (i.e. two dishes shared by three persons). The thing to remember is that they give you loads of vegetable side dishes with most of the stuff that you order. Everything was very tasty and the service was attentive.

  • Firstly, this restaurant has nice furniture! The tables and chairs..... wow!

Anyway, the quality of the food was great! The soup bowls are large and the beef was fresh. The meat was a bit expensive but it was filling.
The side dishes are good too~ though I had better kimchi at other restaurants. The onions were good~

Will go back again, thank you.

  • A buddy introduced me to SooRa and I really enjoyed my first visit. We both chose fixed meals from the "stone bowl" items. The most difficult thing of the whole experience was trying to decide what to order. There are so many yummy looking things on the menu that coming to the decision was the hard part.

My friend's main course was a thick dumpling soup and mine was a mixed seafood stew served over rice. These came with a great variety of Korean side dishes. In all, our meal was a large assortment of food. All of it was great tasting. The dishes had just the right amount of bite without being overly spicy.

The service was very good as well and the servers were very polite and helpful when I asked questions about the menu items.

  • This was the best dining experience myself and my husband had in months. The service was very pleasant (albeit a little slow) but still responsive.

We were brought a delicious complimentary appetizer soup - I think it is called Ho-Bak-Juk (like pumpkin congee) to start and excellent tea. Both our dishes were excellent - I had my normal staple -Dolsot Bibimbap - the quality of the ingredients was excellent (very nice bulgogi quality beef) and very fresh vegetables. The sauce for the bibimbap was different from what I am used too - less sweet, but more of a smoky rich flavour - excellent. My only complaint was the stone dish wasn't super hot - I like my rice to get crispy - but I sure if you asked for it they would do it for you. My husband loved his stew as well.

I'm not sure why previously reviewees complained about the portion size - it was quite generous - and there was an excellent selection of banchan that was prepared to a very high quality. We were also brought an outstanding desert tea free of charge as well - I think it was called Su jung gwa - it was sweet and spicy and delicious.

Overall, it was excellent value - I think our bill came to about $29 dollars and we left stuffed and very happy!

  • The restaurant had recently opened and was starting to get busy. The staff looked loss and was moving around without doing anything.

The food was good and tasty however when you look at the price of the Kabli or Bulkoki and then get a plate that can barely feed one person even if indicates two people. The Chap Chai appetizer was $10.00 and was barely enough for one of the kids. For $10 you can get Pad Thai at Siam Kitchen or Bistro that can feed almost 3 people. In Toronto we can twice the amount of food with the same quality and flavor for half the price.
    A very disappointed Korean

  • My boyfriend and I went to SooRa a few weeks after it opened. We were happy to see every table (except 1!) had a barbeque at it, and the decor was atmospheric and pleasant. Our waitress did come around quickly, but she did not check on us after we got our food and was absent a lot despite the fact only 3 other party's were in the restaurant at the time.

We ordered a korean pancake to share for an appetizer, which was very good. It had a variety of fresh vegetables in it and a really amazing sauce to dip in. The waitress then brought out our mains and a LOT of side dishes. We had beef bulgogi and beef striploin to bbq, which came with fresh uncooked vegetables for the grill and lettuce with a spicy sauce to wrap our cooked meat in. We also each received a large bowl of rice (which we were so full, we never even touched), 5 side dishes and a hotpot of delicious beancurd soup. The sides consisted of a large salad with wonderful oil dressing, tempura veggies, kimchi, seaweed salad and another item that eludes me.

Overall, the food was excellent and authentic tasting. The service could stand to be more attentive to their customers, especially when the restaurant was so empty otherwise. I would highly recommend!

  • Anybody who likes Kalbi (from a BBQ Table) should probably know SaRiWon in Toronto (NorthYork).
I think SooRa has a better Kalbi and also adds more touch with it's unique menus. I was able to have free try out of a salmon appetizer shaped as rose (forgot the name). It was beautiful enough for me to pull out my camera before I grabbed my chopsticks.
    This places simply AMAZING!!!!
