  • Four of us reserved for 6 pm. The restaurant was not very busy(maybe 6 parties including ours). We arrived on time, we directed to sit in a certain section, then asked to move as they were expecting a large party later. By 6:40pm we each had a glass of water, but no one had be over to take a drink order, let alone a dinner one. We will never go back to this restaurant!!!!!!

  • Excellent food! I have never had Indian food this good!I have tried every place in Ottawa and this place is by far the best. They have fantastic food but when it comes to all you can eat buffet...superb. Any way, service was welcoming and delightful, i would go back again anyday!

  • I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants over the years and have certainly acquired a discriminating taste for this delightfully, rich, spicy food.

The Sitar had a quaint and relaxing atmosphere with subtle yet tasteful Indian decor. Service was quick, friendly and engaging. However, the bottom line here is that the food is authenticly delicious. I've tried ALL of the other Indian restaurants in this city and none compare to the Sitar. While no 2 restaurants are alike, what makes this restaurant is the taste of the sauces. I like hot and spicy food, however spicy alone does not make for a pleasureful pallet experience. They got it right here.

    Highly recommended.

  • This used to be my favorite Indian restaurant (2000-2004), but sadly the food and service have gone downhill in my opinion. I visited twice in the last 6 months but have not been impressed. I'll have to look to some of the other Indian spots for a new favorite.

  • I was visiting the nation’s capital with friends in mid-July, and we stayed on Rideau Street, literally just steps from The Sitar. I’ll say this for the place… there were two or three times we walked past it that the aroma of the restaurant slowed our pace. We had to stop and breathe it in. It was full of promise. Sadly, time was against us and we never did mange to make it to the buffet, so we ended up ordering à la carte the last evening we were in town. I’m sorry to say I was disappointed in the place for a number of reasons. I thought the dishes verged on the pricy to begin with… $11-14 for things I would have expected to pay $8-12 for back home. And when they arrived, the portions were small to the point of stinginess. There were five pieces of tandoori chicken – perhaps adequate for one person, but how to you split if there are two, or three, of you? You’d think “six” would be the more obvious answer. The choice of cuts was bad; nearly half what we got was either bone or cartilage. The butter chicken, too, was disappointing… a small bowl containing five or six McNuggets that probably didn’t amount to a single chicken breast, largely full of a sauce that was sweet to the point of being a dessert rather than an entrée. The rice we were given for two people to share would have nicely fit in one person’s open palm. We also ordered naan, which I would have assumed would come at the beginning of the meal and keep coming. In the restaurants I patronize in Toronto, regardless of either buffet or à la carte, naan is refreshed as it’s consumed. At The Sitar, we were given a slice each, and that was that… and it came at the same time as the meal, rather than as an appetizer in the manner of, say, bread or bread sticks elsewhere. And the simplest thing of all, water, was neglected. My glass stood empty throughout the meal… only to be refilled as we were fishing in our wallets to pay the bill – which was also a chore to get. Wasn’t happy, wasn’t pleased, would not go back. If you find yourself on Rideau Street in Ottawa in the mood for Indian food, I would recommend Passage to India up the street instead.
