Moni Mahal Buffet

It's OK is about all you can say. It has a very large selection of dishes, but none are really fantastic. If you're with a picky eater or really hungry, you'll get your money's worth, but it's certainly not cuisine. Choice is nice, but there's something to be said for quality too.

We went to moni mahal buffet on thursday October 23rd. We had gone in the past food is usually good. This time we ordered each a glass of red and got each a plate and sat at our booth. After sitting for about 5 minutes a reddish bug ( which i am told was a cockroach) ran across our table. I go up to talk to the manager, but the server said he'd talk to me. My partner squished a 2nd cockroach that was on our table. We were utterly disgusted and left the restaurant. -with empty stomach's.
The sad part is I called the city of ottawa health department and was told that an inspector would go check it out. I spoke to Robert Lynn of the city this morning , his first statement is that he has had complaints in the past regarding this restaurant and that he is doing everything he can to get them at moni mahal to clean up the restaurant! Which is nothing more than getting them to clean up the place and call bug removal companies to spray. He said there is nothing more he can do. WOW.. We will never eat their again and are dissatisfied with the city in their "we are doing everything we can" attitude. What does it take before a restaurant is closed ... while they clean it up. He even went as far to say that if he was at a restaurant and bugs ran across his table, he'd still go back! We pay for a meal and i expect that the food and the environment is clean. Not happy with out health department in the city of ottawa.

The place was busy it was a Monday lunch hour, we had a craving for Indian food and it was near my daughters apartment.
The space is cramped-to close to other diners. Th naan was dried out from sitting to long, the butter chicken too sweet and the rice was plain. They had no paneer and no chciken breast with their tandoori.
East India Food Company is far superior. However, you shouldn't expect much when eating at a buffet!

The variety of food is excellent. The butter chicken is usually excellent but was less than fresh last night. Our teens love this place! It is their top choice for restaurants always. Our veggie daughter loves the number of selections for her appetite. The quality of food can vary but overall it's not bad. The service is usually quite good - seated right away, cold water topped up often, and friendly too. The bathrooms are disgusting - we simply plan a trip to a bathroom elsewhere following our meal.

The best Indian buffet I've found in Ottawa.
Fair price, prompt service, great variety, and the food is delicious. I have tried 4 other Indian restaurants and just keep coming back here. It's the best all round I have found so far.
If you think I am being too generous tell me which restaurant is better and I'll try it and judge for myself.

I think this place because they have a great variety of stuff, but the quality of the food isn't that great, especially the meat dishes. The mini samosas are the best though, when the guy the guy that makes them isn't on vacation..

Vegetable dishes are rather good, but the meat dishes are much less than satisfactory being tough and of poor quality. The service is rather indifferent.
Everyone should make the descent to the washrooms. The area is worn and filthy. It is "interesting" to have seen a bloody container on display in an open room off the hall. This makes one very suspicion about the hygienic standards of this restaurant.

Food is good. Service is BAD.

My boyfriend and me went there several times but each time the experience gets worse...the last time we ate there made us not to visit again...there was roaches along the seating areas, one of the waiters spilled water on our table, and never came to wipe it out. They were at the other end of the room, not payng ant attention to the customers and at the end make u obligated to tip them for nor service. The only reason we went there so many times was we both were craving indian food and at that time none other buffet was open. Overall...an unhygienic and bad service restaurant.
