This is by far the WORST restaurant I have ever frequented in my life. I had ordered the sushi which tasted rotten and fishy. The other teppanaki items on the menu was too salty including the soup. Management was very rude when I told them about the rotten sushi and even charged us for it. Overall, terrible value for the over priced menu. We will be telling all our friends never to go. We will definitely not return and recommend you save your money and go elsewhere.

My friends invited us over for a party dinner, and I must say that I'm quite excited to go back! The food was to die for, the cooks were funny and yet serious (As are Japanese people most of the time) and we had a blast! The only thing I didn't feel comfortable with were the waitresses. A lot of them were Japanese, and had a bare understanding of english. Yet, they didn't mess up on any order even though we would stumble on our orders ourselves! Japanese people are like that, they're serious and polite, which people can misunderstand especially around here. We even shared Sake with the man cleaning the grill! (Which was about 15 mins after we were done eating.) Yeah, the pace is fast, but I love it. No waiting in between and you know your food is on the way!

I started eating at the Japanese village about 15 years ago and find the food to be the best Japanese I've had in Ottawa. Friends who have had sushi have not been impressed.
Our most recent visit was the worst so far. The portions keep getting a little smaller, the dining room dirtier, the service was terrible. I'm not sure if the staff was rude or stressed out due to understaffing? We always feel too rushed and this time decided to order a few more drinks and take our time. This did not seem to go over well with the wait staff, getting a comment while being served my third sayanora coffee about how "sayanora" means goodbye. I wish I could say I would not go back, but I don't think I could live without their sauces. This is probably exactly why they never do anything to better themselves as a restaurant. Well...I can only hope that next time they have cleaned their washrooms.
- Order: filet and chicken, lobster, salmon, shrimp sayanora coffee!!

Excellent tasting food and the service from the waitresses is fair.
The establishment is downright dirty and needs a facelift. The carpets are stained, the visible airvents are "caked" with dust, the washroom smells and needs to be thoroughly cleaned - I have even seen in the past mould in the sink. If this is what a customer can see, I have serious questions about what the kitchen looks like... - Order: Steak dinners x 2

This was the best place I've been in a long time. The way they make the food in front of you is just so entertaining and different. They are very polite and tend to each person very nicely. You get to try a piece of whatever you are eating and approve it before they serve it to you. I also love the atmosphere, very fun! I would most definetly go back

I've been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years and I must say that in the past approx. 6 - 7 years, the place is dirtier than ever. In the past couple of years, their sauces have changed; not sure if the owners are the same, but it's not the same sauces as they've been serving in the past.
For the entrance: the sushi bar, is no longer a sushi bar, it looks like it's a counter/cabinet that just sits there collecting dust. The sofas are torn and dirty, the carpeting is not something I want to think about.
Service: the cooks are good and know what they're doing, but the servers have never been adequate. Slow with the sushi and the timing for when the rest of the meal will be served is not considered; they never ask us if we want another drink, we have to look around for the waitress or wave.
Food: Sushi is good, but comes late. The food is usually very good quality, but for the past couple of years their sauces have changed. They use to be a lot better. Filet Mignon, shrimps, chicken are all very good. It seems that the sesame sauce has been watered down.
Why I've I been going to this restaurant: Our family enjoyed the experience and the food and we always believe that maybe, they'll have cleaned up the place. Unfortunately, I believe that this was my last time at the Japanese Village, it's just too dirty for my taste! Where is the health inspector when you need him! - Order: sushi, seafood, steaks, chicken, beer, soft drinks,
- Inexperienced waitress, food ok to good

The atmosphere itself is nice, they cook right in front of you. The waitress was really bad at her job, she didn't even understand us and she didn'y know how to open a wine bottle, she left the wrapper on while trying to remove the cork, and the opener is the old eared one, yikes, give her better tools, please!
The food: the free soup is a simple broth, not very good, the free shrimp were good though only 2 per person, the vegetables are good on the grill, the sauces also good. The steak was very tasty, and the sushi was good. the calamari was a little overcooked, I wouldn't order that again. The green tea we had after our meal was just aweful, tasted burned... worst I ever had. A little pricey for what you get, although they do cook in front of you and you have to share table with some annoying people sometimes.

Let me start by saying that the food itself was very very good and the cooks who prepared our meals for us were personable and courteous. All in all the food and the cooking staff were very impressive. Unfortunately our experience was incredibly soured by the waitress who was assigned to our table. The waitress was curt and actually hushed me when I attempted to order a drink, then after taking my order failed to bring me the requested beverage. The waitress then proceeded to bring a bill with a soft drink charged to us and although she crossed it out when we pointed out that the soft drink was not served - when she rang in our bill she charged us for the beverage and underhandedly returned our change minus the cost of the soft drink. I am very upset that an establishment where two people easily spend $100.00 for a meal would think it appropriate to charge for items not provided. I mean really when your customers drop a bill on a meal for two it would be appreciated if you could own up to your errors as a waitress and not be underhanded - I feel that this reflects poorly on the experience as a whole and left with no real desire to ever return which is unfortunate because the food itself is so good.

I have to agree with most of the comments about the food being EXCELLENT. But as well with the many comments for the price you pay, you would expect a better service. We were 6 of us and I felt like my food was practically shoved down my throat. Everytime I finished something my dish was taken away from me as soon as I was done and something else came along quickly and quickly taken away again. We were done in no time. When we got home, I realized that we never even got our green tea! They practically started washing the grill as soon as were finished as if to say please get out, another group will take your place. I hadn't even finished my Marguarita..... I had to finish half my drink in one shot! In general, I found that the service was on the rude edges. I will probably go back again for the food but not for a while. Maybe next time I'll try lunch since even if I get rushed service, you usually pay less for lunch.

excellent and affordable lunch specials. i highly recommend the filet mignon steak. it is delicious!
the service is average, but friendly.
since this restaurant is a teppan steak house, where the food is cooked in front of you, you have to plan extra time for your lunch hour. - Order: filet mignon tea
