Indian Express

What they make is NO WAY close to what Indian food tastes like by any means. Indian food is based on stages of cooking with spices which elicits flavors. The spices are cooked as required and one can taste the raw ingredients. I regretted every time I have had something from here: their Butter chicken is a joke! I say this as an Indian who has had this dish made the right way in other restaurants. The rest of the curries are equally bad, stale curry base into which they drop the meat or veggies and heat them up. This is NOT how Indian food should taste or be made ! This is not only a personal venting review but my intent is to enlighten you readers so as not to ruin your evening and waste your money. Cheers !

I am from Brampton, Ontario (which has one of largest East Indian populations in Canada).

Indian Express is a takeout place not fine dining. The place does not look the greatest but it is the most authentic Indian food I have had in Ottawa.

- Authentic Indian food.
- Generous portions.
- Great service.

Repeat - I order something on a weekly basis.

The Indian Express is excellent. I have seen some less than glowing reviews but I am so glad I tried this restaurant. It is a take-out Indian food restaurant and the butter chicken is excellent. It is small run by owners that have a range of excellent food and traditional deserts that look fantastic.

I have tried several dishes and I go back and always try one side dish different each time.

If you are an Anthony Bourdain type you are not going to find animal intestines or other parts. What you will find is a value restaurant with excellent, tasty food that will keep you going back.

The proprietors are very friendly and work very hard to provide value, with high quality.
They are proud of their restaurant and should be.

Yes.. I have seen a few bad reviews of this restaurant. That it may not be the cleanest... yes.. the floor may be a little dirty... but ask yourself why? Could it be that they have a lot of traffic in and out of this store.. people standing around waiting. Is the food clean... OF COURSE.. And it is great quality. One of the proprietors took me into his kitchen.... it is small and they make the most of their space... he started today at 4:30 am in order to make several dishes fresh. Who does that any more? They do! The quality of the chicken.. Chicken breast.. None the less was excellent..

Take it from a Bourdain enthusiast... give this place a try... have an open mind.. Try a few things.. You will not be disappointed.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this small take-out/delivery restaurant has some of the best Indian food I've tasted recently.
As advertised on their window, they have the best butter chicken in town. This is definitely a valid claim. The naan was warm and buttery, and the malai kofta was perfectly spiced. The sweets were delicious too.
Service was a tiny bit slow, but considering how our food came to us extra hot and fresh, this small detail was easily overlooked.
They also do giftboxes of Indian sweets, which look lovely.
I'll definitely be visiting again, hopefully bringing more, different people to discover this small, but great restaurant.
