Allium Restaurant

I went last Monday evening for Tappas. You get to try a lot of different things for $4-$12 each. I tried 5 or 6 different things and they were all very good. My favourites were creamy mushrooms on toast and the fish cakes. I had a glass of Cali Cab which was standard but good. Finished with creme brulee, which was also delicious. Overall, this was a good experience. Tasty food, decent prices, though the Tomato Salad for $9.00 was absolutely obscene for what they served. Service was very good, and the decor is inviting and intimate. I'll go back on the Tappas night next time I am in the area.

My second time here, my husband's first, and it was just as good the second time around. It was a stressful decision to choose a special dining experience to celebrate our first anniversary and I'm so glad that we opted for Allium.

Quaint, simple yet cozy decor, just the right size and the place filled up nicely over the course of our meal.

We split the salad, which was delicious. I never thought that grilled onion could taste so good. However, we
could have used more than one grilled onion in the salad since I had to bite it in half to share...darn!

I went in again for the steak & frites, after mulling over the surf & turf but decided to steer clear of the raw seared tuna since I'm 6 mos pregnant. My husband ordered the same as me, he's a steak guy, and he LOVED it! The gravy, the perfection of the meat, the chunky frites and aioli sauce! I could go on and on. After licking our plates, we proceeded to devour the banoffee pie! So good and plate-lickable as well.

The service was great, my water was filled up practically each time I took a sip. We appreciated that our server recommended changing the wine order from a lighter red, to pair with the surf & turf, to something more bold to pair with our steaks. He recommended a california zinfandel (Z52) and it was really, really bold & fruity. Too bad I could only enjoy a small sip but I know what I'm running out to by in a few months!! My only comment on the service was that he was slow to bring our drinks order when we first got there, but it wasn't a big deal.

Overall, a really great dining experience and a nice memory for our first anniversary.

The food at this place is incredible. Everything on the plate makes sense. There seems to be a purpose for each item. Not pretentious, very casual and warm atmosphere. Just outstanding! If only I found this gem earlier. Will be back...tomorrow.

Been to Allium twice. Once this winter on a Monday for tappas and the other evening for dinner. Both times the food was wonderful. Both times the service was beyond horrible. Is rudeness a pre-requisite for working at this restaurant??? At these prices the owner really should be ashamed of himself.

Absolutely wonderful. Great little restaurant. Great "eclectic" wine list with great menu. Lots to chose from. Service excellent. Man serving made the experience worth it! Would highly recommend and return.

Unbelievable food at incredible prices. This is the BEST restaurant in Ottawa. Casual atmosphere with fine dining cuisine. We were well attended to by the severs. The beef tenderloin was to die for. I guess the menu changes monthly, so I'll have to get there at least that often to sample the food. It'll be my pleasure.

We like the restaurant and the food is always excellent. We typically like to dine a little later than most at about 8:30pm. The place completely emptied by 9:00pm and the waiter was rushing from the moment we sat down. Whats wrong with the owner and why operate in the restaurant business if you want to go home by 10:00pm ? Nothing worse than spedning $120 on dinner and have to feel like you have to leave after an hour. We do not frequent the restaurant because of this...

We discovered this restaurant from family friends and absolutely love it. The ambience,atmosphere and wonderful food made for a wonderful evening.
The presentation of the food made you enjoy every single bite. A perfet place for a romantic dinner.

This restaurant is fabulous! I love that the menu of changes on a monthly basis. You can easily tell that the chef enjoys playing with food and developping new dishes... My boyfriend is vegetarien and there is always one creative meal that is suitable for him. I can honestly say that this is my favorite restaurant!!!

I had written a review of this restaurant before, and it seems to have disapeared. Anyhow, I loved it the first time, and the second time was even better. They change the menu every month, but I wanted the tuna off the last menu. They did it with no problem(and it iwas delicious) what so ever. Reading these other reviews, I feel like it is a different restaurant they had gone to. I would recomend going back. It truly is a fine place to dine. i will be back!!
