  • My family has been going to this place for more than 15 years now and we've never had a complaint. If you're in a rush you can call ahead your order. The fish has never been greasy or oily. The fries are great - although we've never tried the poutine so I can't speak for that - and the gravy is not overly salty. If you don't want to spend a lot on fish, try the Alaskan Pollock - just as tasty as the others and not as pricey.

  • I ordered a poutine and being a poutine connoisseur and after reading the reviews for their poutine, I had to order to one. Well, needless to say, I was less than impressed with this subpar meal. The gravy was bland and they used mozerella shredded cheese instead of cheese curds! At least the fries were delicious! If you're looking for a less-than-great poutine, try this place.
For a better poutine (and more authentic), I would recommend Montreal Fries (38 Simcoe St S, Oshawa -- corner of King and Simcoe S) -- across from Mr. Sub . Their gravy is not the greatest and it's salty, but it's chicken gravy and vegetabl-based. They also use real cheese curds and it costs less than $6 for a small. For a FANTASTIC, mouth-watering (and seasonal) poutine, try Scottie's Chip Wagon. His truck is parked on Taunton Rd in Oshawa between Ritson and Wilson (near Mt. Kirby Skis and Boards). He is only open until 6 on weekdays, closed on Mondays and I have no idea what his hours are for the weekend. You will not be disappointed with this poutine!

I call BS on that. Never in my life has PB's used shredded cheese on their poutine.

The fries at Montreal Fries suck and their restaurant is dirty and overpriced.

Scotties is great though.

  • I've been eating at PB's for over 15 years easily. I find the prices fair, especially because you'll pay the same price at different places around town and won't get the same quality or quantity.

I always get a small poutine and only finish may 4 out of 10 times. i don't know what other people are talking about when they say the portions are small. If you think you're not getting enough food try finishing a Large Poutine with crumbs, not an easy feat for anyone under 200 lbs. My 270 lb friend is often defeated by PB's Large poutine.

Service is always prompt and right to order, can be a little on the expensive side if you get fish but you get what you pay for, if you don't like it go to Mcdonalds.

  • PB's make easily the best poutine this side of Montreal. I've tried many times to find better, to no avail. The Cajun seasoning is so amazing and popular that most regulars don't even have to ask for it anymore -- and the owners have recently started adding new poutine seasonings. The only one I don't like is the pineapple curry, but I've been told it's good when mixed with Thai.

The fish is good but overpriced. Stick with the fries and you'll go home happy.

  • The first couple of reviews about this place must've been written by the owners.

It was a Friday night and I decided to spoil myself, and instead of the Chinese food I initially intended on getting, I had a change of heart because i hadn't had Fish and Chips in a while. I figured that since the place is a hole in the wall, and appeared to be family owned and operated, it would be a decent meal.

When the owner picked up a tiny box and wrote my order on it, I knew I'd made a mistake. He brought the batter bowl from the back and put a small square piece of fish into the fryer, at this time I was thinking "theres gotta be another piece going in".

Sadly not, a single piece of fish, and a small container packed with fries. I got home and put my own malt vinegar on the fish (they didn't include a lemon). I ate the meal in about 3 minutes (there wasn't much) and regret filled my mind.

The fish had zero flavour, the chips had zero flavour, the portion was small, and it cost $9. I am sitting here annoyed at how I got ripped off.

I cannot imagine this place has any repeat customers, because usually you build a customer base by providing either good food, or a lot of food.

This place has neither. 2 thumbs down.

  • My wife and I went here based on the reviews we read. I can't say we were blown away, the chips were ok, the fish was pretty good, the price was a little on the high side. The gravy was that horrible powder stuff, and, once again, NO MUSHY PEAS! Overall, not too bad, nice service, but the chips were definitely overhyped by previous reviewers. On a side note, is there anywhere that does serve mushy peas? You can't call yourself an English style fish and chips place without the mushy peas.

  • I stopped here this afternoon on the recommendation of a few locals. I ordered the cod and chips which were served promptly. I sampled the fries first and they were amazing, possibly the best from a fish and chip place I've had. The fish was fairly average, and at $7.90 for a takeout order, overpriced. I would definitely go back for an order of fries but I wouldn't bother with the fish again, I can get sit down service at my local shop in East York for a much better portion of cod at a similar price with bread and butter thrown in.... If you have a craving for fries when you're in the area, this is your place.
