  • Seems there has been a major shake-up at Stavs' and it better than ever! New menu and a new attitude! Great to see Dan at the helm!

  • Order: Best steak in Oshawa! with a great wine that Dan picked out for us!

My niece had gone there for a party the other night and had made the exact same comment, like the food had returned to the old days when the Stavs was the place to go.

  • I really am dissapointed. At thanksgiving.. we had a large party of 11. 2 people out of 11 said " not bad.. but not great. the other,s?would,nt go back, my 86 year old mother had paid for all, she did complain to Steve sr. he did allow a free dinner for 2 to make it up to her, the make-up dinner was worse then the original dinner at thanksgiving. our server was Steve Jr. you could tell he was not in the least interested in us, it was so obvious that it was embarassing for us.I would have to go on and on to define the errors. In this ( free dinner for 2? we took our young daughter with us) we had to pay $45.00 for her dinner ( no booze at all!! no dessert!! and we still had to pay for the taxes and more! where in hell did they get $45.00 for ! steak dinner? not the most expensive steak either. My family has had 3 wedding receptions there. It is a long standing relationship that we have had with Stavros. We will NEVER step foot in that place again. My husband my mother all family members are boycotting Stavros. We even had to ask for water, steak sauce twice, salad dressing, our coffee was cold, I could go on and on, but what bothered us most was the rudness of our waiter. Steve Jr. you should not be in the restaraunt business. your restaraunt has gone down hill so much it,s sad. you know that , I,m sure.

  • Order: Steak, prime rib. nothing else.

  • Always a great pleasure to eat here - The kind of service you can't get at any of the generic chain restaurants. One of Oshawa's landmarks. Love the new deco and the refreshed menu.

  • I was so disappointed the last visit to this restaurant in January of 2009! Our first family visit had been great so we went again to celebrate my Mom's 75th birthday. From the hostess grabbing my coat, causing me to drop my camera and having the batteries fly out (no apology) to rushing us to our table when Mom - who is on OXYGEN told her she can't walk fast...it was a nightmare that just got worse.

They had set us up at a table for 5 though we had booked for 6. We then had to be moved of course. Wait staff and food were on par with what we expected - though we did notice major cobwebs on the ceiling and lights that put us off a bit. When Mom asked for a 'doggie bag' for her large portion of salmon, we waited forever. When asked, the waiter returned very apologetic - he has requested the kitchen do this but they had thrown it out. He was nice enough to do up a fresh portion of fish, potatoes and veg to replace it - that was the delay.

When leaving, the coat check girl could not find my sister's coat. My sister finally found it on the floor, trampled and filthy. Again, no apology. When she walked to her car she found that $10 in cash and a about the same in loonies and twonies were missing from her pockets. Yes, there IS a SIGN saying "not responsible for lost or stolen items" but come on!

I sent a letter to the owner explaining how disappointed we were and questioning why their standards of service had fallen so low - and received no acknowledgement whatsoever. I will never again go to El Stavros.

  • I've been going to Stavs' for many years now for food, drink and entertainment. I was in recently since they redecorated and put in a new menu. I was not disappointed, the portions were just as large as I remember them and the service was bang on. Thank Danny for the excellent service!

  • RED CARPET TREATMENT

El Stavros hosted my 40th birthday party and extended the red carpet treatment to myself and to my guests. From the private dining room which was elegantly decorated and arranged to accomodate my guest list of 27 to the excellent service, charm and competance delivered by Steve Jr..
Steve Jr. went above and beyond to ensure the evening was a success. And it was!
It is without hesitation that I recommend El Stavros for any function or occasion. Further, I trust you won't be disappointed if served by Steve Jr.

    Thank You El Stavros!

  • THEY RUINED MY BIRTHDAY!!!!! We have been going here for years, We have had company christmas parties, weddings and aniversaries, birthdays etc. We also use to go almost every Friday night after work and always recommended it to our friends! But the quality and service has gone down FAST!!!. I have noticed it a lot lately and have had some problems with our bills the last few times.
On June 6 we took our son for his Birthday dinner, besides us four there was only two other couples in the whole restaurant. The food was not very good, My husband ordered shrimp cocktail and he said it tasted like it was thawed in a microwave. Our son had escargo, and he said it was terrible, After dinner Steve jr. came up to us and asked if we could pay cash because the debit mach. was broken. My husband had to leave and go to the bank. When he returned he went up to the bar and paid. I mentioned to Steve that my birthday is coming up and I am not sure what I am doing. He said he would give me a great deal if I wanted to have it here.
My husband and I really didn't seem to think that the debt mach. was down, we figured that they were struggling and he needed the cash to pay his staff. When I asked my husband for the bill, he never got one. I thought we paid a little to much, but my husband wasn't sure.
After talking about what to do with my Birthday I went into see Steve and he agreed to give me Full Prime Rib Dinner $20.00 per person, I asked if he fixed his debit mach and he said "yes" but if we paid cash he'd make a better deal.
10 people arrived, Steve jr. had a bottle of white wine on ice, and said that was for my Birthday!! we ordered a Red wine and a Blush. 1 rum and coke and 1 bloody ceicer.
Dinner was really dissappointing, But everyone being polite never complained. because it was my birthday, and they didn't want to ruin it for me. Then we ordered 5 Spanish coffee's. ( they complained they next day) I handed my husband $400.00 cash to go pay the bill. When I had noticed he was gone. I asked my daughter were he went and she said to the bank he never had enough money! I was surprised but thought i'd check into it later.
When I got home I asked him what the evening cost. he said $480.00, but with tip he paid $560.00. I asked him for the bill and he said there wasn't one.
I was furious with the fact that not only was the food crappy we got ripped off, I called the next day and asked the cost of 3 wine, 5 spanish coffee, 2 drinks, and 3 cokes. I explained to her what had happened. and we figured out the cost together, $344.00 without the tip. She said that she has no bill to check but she will get in touch with Steve to clear this up. That evening after 10:00pm Steve called and was furious that I called his mother and complained. (I called the restaurant). Said he gave my husband the bill, and it was all there. My husband who was standing beside me said he told him how much, never gave him any bill, and with me planning this on my own he wasn't sure what the cost were to be. Steve litterly was yelling at me on the phone and said that he would bring me the bill to my work the following day, but because of the scene he was making on the phone, I didn't want him to make a scene at my work so I said forget it!!! But we will never come back. it has been 3 wks and I am still furious!!!!! But have learned a valuble lesson.

  • Order: Prime Rib

  • Dec 2008: Saw and heard mixed reviews, 4 of us took a chance for our anniversaries. Bad decision- never again! The bad reviews are dead on. From the maitre'd to the waiter (with biker poney tail), couldn't suggest a cocktail, comments that weren't appropriate - we thought he should have been a server in a bar versus what advertises to be more fine dining. Things went downhill from there. The food? The garlic bread and pickles were only good part of the meal - we should have left it at that. The escargot were buried in a mountain of SuperStore shredded cheese - we had to ask for bread. The filet mignon steaks were underdone in all cases and chewy - not very good cuts. The roasted potatoes varied from not cooked through to warmed up yesterday leftovers - real mushy. When asked if we could have a baked potato witrh our steak, the waiter indicated he wasn't sure - he'd try to "dig one up". I went with the mushing roated potatoes. The veggies were bland and not quite sure what they were other than the couple of carrots. The Rocca Caramel Crunch cake which we order everywhere that it's carried was the cheap knock-off, not Rocca! All in all, for over $100 a couple it was a disappointing meal with indifferent wait staff that just wanted their tip. We haven't been very happy with the Keg steaks the last two visits, but even at it's worst, you're better off with the Keg, Baton Rouge even Montana's - none of which we think are fine dining. So save your money. There's GREAT Thai food at a small restaurant called Oshawa Thai on Bond, GREAT wings at the Bulldog and a GREAT family meal at Brothers in Whitby - all which would have come in well under half the bill at El Stavros.
