I came for the baguette, half the fun is choosing one.I pondered the turkey and cranberry... safe choice but it was a unusual spring day so I wanted something more interesting.( unusual spring day because it is Orillia and thus it is the snow belt , yet on the mid of March I strolled through the down town dressed in a light jacket and open toed heals!) I was convinced the Hawaiian was a sure bet and a refreshing change. Its important to understand that half of the meal is in the ambiance , with the talented local artists works which adorns the walls the time it takes to create such unique sandwiches is lost in admiration of the talent of the community.I ask for a glass of white wine, which was very fruit forward displaying tropical notes, lime and golden apple and , yes pineapple.I was confident my choice of baguette was going to be more of a wine and food marriage then a simple match.I was not disappointed. The black forest ham and swiss cheese were warm to the point of slightly melted and the pineapple complimented the black forest ham( the wonderful waitress suggested this cheese combo)the sweet pineapple and lettuce added a crisp texture to contrast the softness of the ham and cheese. She also suggested a curry dip which if you have ever had such dip is the fragrant soft sweet spices not the hot curry we often are relate to curry.(think sandalwood or garam marsala)
Price, food, service and atmosphere rates this as a nice spot to share with good company on a local shopping expedition. While wondering the wonderful boutiques of Orillia might I suggest grabbing some wonderful cheese curds farm fresh btw from Quaker Oaks across the road.the actually SQUEAK! - Order: It was a Hawaiian black forest ham on swiss...yum factor of 1000!

My girlfriend and I went to Filou Bistro for the first time and let me say that it was a delightful experience! The food was fantastic as well as the service. We both agreed that it was a good experience and that we should return soon to try a different sandwich on the menu.
Recommend Filou Bistro for a wonderful lunch spot A++

If you're looking for an everyday, ordinary sandwich, that's what you'll get. Nothing too exciting, but not offensive either. I felt the andwich could have looked a bit better or more substantial, but the prices were reasonable. There really isn't any wow factor to get you to come back for more.

I was first introduced to the Rotterdam and ever since I have been hooked!!! If you havn't tryed any of the baggettes you should deffinantly try out the Rotterdam 1st!!!! You will be hooked aswell... The service is awsome when Elke is there, there is always a plesant conversation. Other times I have went and she wasn't there I felt as though I was just "extra work" that they really didn't want to be bothered with. Now out of all the times I have visited I did not once see any of Elke's employees out front smoking, and the tattoo shop next door dosn't bother me what so ever. It's all in personal opppion I guess. What ever you do, just try it and see for yourself.
- Order: 2 rotterdams on white with mozza no cranberry sauce on one, with garlic on the side. Drinks consisted of a Cream soda in a bottle and a coke in a can.

I thought I would attempt this returant again, however, as a 30 something woman, walking towards the store is daunting by the freakish men next door standing about smoking like chimneys. Although once I got to the door way of the resturant the staff in their bright yellow aprons sitting on the front steps, blocking the door way smoking, was enough to make me keep walking in disgust. In the end I sent a friend in to order my food to go. In this day an age, the last thing we should be walking into is clouds of smoke directly blocking the doorway. Shame on you Elke for not changing this behaviour in the last several years.
- Order: Roma sandwich. bread was over toasted. and cold by the time i recieved it. plus ordered the garlic dip times 2 and recieved curry.

I love the Filou Bistro. And while I agree that the tatoo parlour next door is an eyesore, the food and staff at Filou make up for it. The decor is definitely unique. It has a cuteness to it. My favorite sandwich is the Monaco. I get this item nearly every visit. The garlic dipping sauce is AWESOME!!! Yeah for Filou Bistro. Go there!!

I love this place when you are in the area and on the run. You get healthy home made baguettes and soup. All that aside, the owner makes the most amazing dips (my favorite is the curry) I hve ever tasted. The healthy home made factor combined with extremely high levels of deliciousness keep me coming back whatever chance I get!

Unprofessional, unexperienced staff. Horrible Decor. The only good thing about this resturant is the food. Although eating inside is enough to ruin your appitete. The outside isn't much to garner interest either, as there are riff-raff always hanging out near/beside the store. Careful going through all the smoke, just to get to the entranceway. My sugesstion? Hold your breath, close your eyes when you enter, and take your food to go.
