  • Good value. Good (not great) food. Better yakatori elsewhere. Horrible wine by the glass options - Kressman!!! Awkward service with the curtained booths. We will try this again.

  • Order: Edamame, tempura, yakatori, sushi, sashimi

  • How hard is it to find an All-You-Can-Eat Japanese restaurant these days? Not very, and you know why? Because so many people don't have a clue as to what 'good' or even 'great' Japanese cuisine is meant to be like. It is so common to find hungry consumers rave about how great the all-you-can-eat sushi places are, when in fact they use frozen or non-fresh ingredients, provide poorly made rolls and sashimi, and still make you pay $30 at dinner time when tips are included.

Cue in Tokyo Bay. A true gem as I said for people who want to experience a more authentic culinary experience of Japanese origin. Tokyo Bay has been operating in Oakville for over 15 years now, and over the years the restaurant has seen some renovations including private booths (tatame) and exciting additions to their menu. Their sushi chef is not afraid to experiment and try new and creative food experiments that truly are delicious and great choices added to their menu.

Prices are very fair per person, even in relation to the all-you-can-eat joints. If you spend between $20-40 for yourself, you will walk away very satisfied and as full as if you stuffed your face with rice and seaweed at an AYCE Japanese restaurant. Not only that, the food quality is far superior too. Fresh varieties of Sashimi, including traditional western favourites (Salmon & Tuna), plenty of maki rolls from the common California Roll to creative ones such as the Black Dragon roll. What really stands out for me though isn't just the amazing makis or sashimi, it is the Tempura.

I am not sure how often people think deep-fried & thick-battered vegetables and shrimp equals good tempura. I tell you, every single Japanese restaurant I have been to in Ontario (I have been to numerous) serve up the same bland, greasy, uninspiring batch of "tempura" that looks like a mix of frozen fish-sticks and a Pogo. At Tokyo Bay, their Tempura comes out looking amazing and how Tempura should look and taste like. Their tempura batter is very flaky, and has an almost delicate coral like look. While it is also greasy (since of course it is deep-fried), it does not have the heavy oily smell or flavour almost every other Japanese restaurant serves. The vegetable and shrimp inside is cooked to perfection and when you take that first bite you wonder how such a thing is even made.

Overall, if you are a Japanese food "connoisseur" or a newbie to it, I recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere, good service, and great food for a fair price.

Don't fall prey to all-you-can-eat sushi! You will end up paying for all-you-can-eat rice, seaweed, and fake crab sticks.

Recommendations: Tempura, Sushi Pizza, California Roll, Seaweed Salad, Spicy Tuna Maki.

  • Order: Crab Salad, Tuna Carpaccio, Futo Maki, Spicy Salmon/Tuna Maki, Salmon & Tuna Sashimi, Tempura

  • Let me temper this review by stating that I am not overally familiar with japanese cuisine and maybe this is standard for the fare but I thought the food was pretty bland. The salad dressing tasted like watery thousand island dressing and the meat was fatty. The booths with private curtains, the tv playing the strange japanese shows were fun and the service was friendly and helpful.

  • My husband and I have been coming to this restaurant for a few years now. Although it is a smaller restaurant, I have always enjoyed my food experience there. I particularly enjoy the private booths they have. I usually order the combination dinners, which includes salad, soup, main course, and dessert; I feel like I am getting my money's worth and I don't have to decide what to order as I am quite indecisive :) (especially after a long day of work)! My husband is a bit more adventurous than I am lol. So he likes to try different types of sashimi and rolls from the menu. I think he tried the Black Dragon Roll last time! He always seems satisfied and happy with his meal after it is all done! So no complaints there:) I also got a lot of refills on my green tea! So I suppose the only thing I can complain about is the fact that I drank a bit too much of their green tea....caffeine high:)

  • I have been going to Tokyo Bay for years now, and I it was my first time back in a couple of months. Right when I walked in I can see some nice additions they've added to the dining room. The entrance of the restaurant is also changed as they have added some nice, fresh, rennovations to the joint. I went withy my two friends who adore sushi like I do. We were seated in one of the three larger private booths - (tatame?) styled. They added new, cushiony seats, it was very comfortable. Since we were big sushi fans we ordered a nice variety of different fish. We also tried some new rolls they added since our last visit. I liked our whole dinner. We were in a private booth, comfy, with lots of room. The food was delish, and the service was good in the sense they knew when to come and when to leave us be. Plus we had nice rounds of tea. The atmosphere was very nice with their lighting. To wrap up, me and my friends had a pleasant evening. It's nice to see Tokyo Bay is constantly trying to freshen themselves up with time.

  • We ordered many different vegetarian rolls, as well as vegetable tempura and edamame, The vegetarian rolls were very tasty, but overpriced. The edamame was overcooked, and the portion size was quite small. The tempura was greasy, for the $8 we paid, we received 4 pieces.

I would not go back again.

  • I've been to Tokyo Bay couple of times and have always enjoyed their food! I try to taste different things on the menu every time- my favourite so far is their sushi and sashimi combo! It came with soup, salad, main, and dessert! It's tasty, fresh, and within my budget (lol, I'm a student)! I really enjoy the booths! They add character and privacy. The service was decent- fast and efficient! I would definitely come back!

  • This restaurant may not look great from the outside, but the inside is cute and cozy. I especially enjoy the booths they have available with the tv screens. I have enjoyed all the food i have eaten here, my only problems with this place is their limited menu, and the overpriced items. Their edamame alone is more than double the price of most places. I've received great service on one visit, and just ok service on another. I recommend the bento box with the tempura salmon.

  • Order: Edamame, tempura vegetables and salmon, maki set dinner,

  • My friend recommended me this place and so my husband and I went although we felt the name of the restaurant to sounded too cheep to be authentic.

    And we were right.

The Sushi we ate were not nice. Fish were not fresh I wondered if my stomach will be ok later.

The soup bowl for Miso-shiru was all patchy and scratched and felt really unsure about how safe it is to eat anything from it and that made me wonder about the cleanliness of other plates and utensils, not to mention the food itself.

Although decoration of the restaurant is Japanese-y I felt the place is little bit dusty and dirty.
Staff are blunt and not very hospitable.
