  • My gf and I enjoy this restaurant quite a bit because it's a thai/japanese combination. She loves her bangkok style pad thai and I love the raw fish. The only issue I have with it is the price. It's the sort of place that we go to only on special occasions or when we are feel good about the finances. Our bill typically comes to $60-$70 for an evening appearance. Prices vary from lunch - dinner menus.

It's my favorite sushi place I've been to in Ontario, which is why I'm surprised at all of the negative reviews of this place.

The service is sub par as no one ever seems to be happy but rather in a shitty mood, all the time.

  • Went to the Spoon & Fork for the second and last time last night.

My boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant fairly early (5:00) and were planning on doing the all you can eat sushi thing, but were waiting for a friend. The waiter asked us if we wanted to order, we mentioned we would wait for our friend because of the 2 hour limit (stated on the menu) but he told us not to worry about that. We proceeded to order a couple of appetizers while we waited. An hour or so into our meal, the waiter told us in so many words our time was up. We had planned on ordering more, but weren't necessarily ready that second. He hovered over our table forcing us to place and order so he could get us out of there. Needless to say, the service was beyond rude.

The food was pre-cooked and was lukewarm when it arrived to our table and it was full of MSG. For anyone who is MSG sensitive or simply don't want to poison your body with the excess of this additive, plain and simple stay away!

Lastly, there are no prices for the all you can eat sushi on the menu; it came to about $30 each! Don't get suckered into this, go to a nice restaurant and order a nice meal with good service and quality food. Guaranteed you will not find this here.

  • Went to spoon and fork with a party of 11 people. When we first went in the waitress decides to do an act of kindness and bring out all sorts of appetizers for us to try (to fill us up). Little did we know, she also ordered our main meals. Not only did it come out at the same time as the appetizers but it also wasn't what we wanted. We sent it back and the waitress began to give attitude (we never ordered it to begin with). After we told her to stop bringing out appetizers, she still brought out the food... for everybody to share, especially the salads that everyone ordered individually. When the actual meal came in, she forgot most of the orders, and dropped random foods off to random places. When one of the party members came in late and waned to order, she not only refused to bring out some appetizers, she also brought out the wrong order. When the dinner was over, and everyone paid for their bills, not only did they take 15% gratitude, they didn't put the bills together properly. I came to pay at least 30$ for an all you can eat buffet, and left paying 45$. in total she took 55$ in tip EVEN THOUGH the service was brutal... I found it astonishing the lady knew who's bill was who's but didn't know who ordered what. The cash back wasn't even accurate! Aside from the terrible service, the food would deserve a 6/10. Overall this was the worst service i received in years, The staff was rude, impolite and the food was rushed. This was the first time I've ever came to the Spoon and Fork in Oakville and probably my last. Not impressed.

If you want an amazing Spoon and Fork, go to the one in Etobicoke. You will be treated like a king!

  • Hosts/Servers at this place are unbelievably rude! Tried to get a reservation for a Saturday dinner at 8:30pm for 8 people but the hostess on the phone said that its later in the evening we don't need to make a reservation since there will be tables available. We get there at 8pm and the place is full so we asked if we could get a table for 8 and rude hostess gives us a racist attitude and tells us that she will take my name down in the wait list but tells me that they will probably not accommodate us because they are fully booked. We waited 1.5 hours for nothing even after checking with them numerous times, my parents were so pissed we walked out of there. If they were fully booked, they should have told me over the phone when I tried to make a reservation not when our entire family gets to the place expecting to eat there only to walk out starving and find another place late at night to get dinner. Trust me, this place is so expensive you'd expect better service from these people, unfortunately that's the sad part. It's not worth your money go someplace else where they will treat you with respect. I have been to the Vaughan and Mississauga locations and service there is better compared to this snotty place where they rip you off. We will never set foot at this place again and I will make sure people we know are informed about their terrible service!

  • Sorry if this seems cut and pasted - it's because it is. I originally wrote this on a forum.
    ---

Went to Spoon & Fork last night with a friend, it was the first time having sushi for both of us.

I must have looked like a complete slob, dressed in a baseball hat with track pants and everything, I wasn't expecting it to be all dim and fancy on the inside haha.. And I really don't think our server liked us much at ALL hahah, oh well

The big irritants of the night: $27.99 x 2 for dinner with NO drinks included, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't give out ice water for free either. Order a soft drink for $3 and there's no refills included? Give me a break... Waiter was probably lying to us.. I just drank beer instead, Sapporo actually at a hefty $7.50 a piece.

Asked where the desserts were on the menu and the guy said it's on another menu, and is not built into the cost. Like really? The other AYCE menu's I had looked at from other restaurants online always included some kind of desert section. Not at Spoon & Fork

We asked the guy what kind of sushi to try as 2 people that have never had it before and he quickly recommended "green dragon rolls", we had, in order: green dragon rolls (my favorite of the night, but possibly only because we had these first and at our hungriest), then spicy california rolls (also good, thought i was gonna hate these due to fake crab), then salmon sushi , then ebi sushi (shrimp), then spicy salmon sushi (this one was awful. i could barely get it down.. worst of the night. way too much seaweed and something crunchy in the middle, yuck), then yam rolls (second least favorite).

To be honest I really didn't find the salmon sushi or ebi sushi to have a whole lot of flavor, somewhat bland. I would dip them in a bit of soy with wasabi and those were the dominant flavors by far.. They were good but certainly didn't blow my mind. I also think the rice wasn't 100% proper, i have a feeling it was packed too densely or not cooked 100% right, from what I'd seen in pictures or tv shows before. These balls of rice were like someone squished the bejesus out of them in the palms of their hand

other dishes were the coconut shrimp (delicious), curried pumpkin soup (delicious), chicken wings (horrible), mango salad (fine), pineapple fried rice & bangkok pad thai (decent but already familiar with them from JJ Thai), green curry

overall there was good and bad with the place but i really think they are gouging by not offering refills and not offering desserts, the only way to come even close to eating your moneys worth is probably to only order the most expensive or exotic fish items.. my bill was way more than i was expecting it to be at the beginning of the night

Are those "Green Dragon" rolls unique to this place? I think there's probably much better value to be had at a smaller place, but that's just an impression I get as a novice

Will not be returning. $100 bill for 2 people with no desserts and not even a measly free refill included? Screw that. Service sucked. Waiter was rude.

  • Yuck is all I can say. This is by far the worst Thai food I have EVER had. The atmosphere is nice but the service is bad. If one person at your table orders the all you can eat then everyone else has to. We both ordered chicken curry and it was awful. It was runny, almost soup like and the chicken was rubbery. It wasn't even edible. I would never go back. Don't waste your money.

  • When we first walked into Spoon and Fork, we were impressed with the decor and the general atmosphere of the restaurant. As a party of 10, we were not allowed to be seated until all of our party members arrived, which I thought was unfair considering we had made reservations. Once we all arrived, we were seated and given menus for only half of our guests. By the time we saw the waitress again, it was about 15 minutes later, and we still weren't able to get menus for everyone at the table. When we ordered, we had to order only a little bit at a time, and it was brought to you. If you wanted more, you had to let the waitress know. But the waitress was no where to be found! The restaurant was so crowded and noisy it was impossible to even spot out our waitress. The food was good, and it was a good deal for all of the food that was given to you. I wouldn't go back only because of the service, I could go to another restaurant and get better service and the same meal for the same price.

  • It only takes one bad experience to destroy a restaurant's reputation...

I've been to Spoon and Fork 5-6 times over the past 4 months and it started out as my favourite AYCE restaurant. They have a good selection of food and the food quality is generally above average. The restaurant is usually busy and there is a lack of staff (hence lack of service), but it hasn't bothered me too much.

HOWEVER, I had a terrible experience with them in a recent visit and I won't be going back again. I went with 3 other friends for lunch on a weekday. It wasn't busy and I was expecting good service and good food.

I am a sashimi fiend; I'd normally order 8 pieces of everything from the menu and polish it off. This time, I wanted to try more of the other options on the menu, so I decided to order less for myself, and the 4 of us ordered 10 pieces of each sashimi instead.

Everything went smoothly, the service was still slow, but better than when it was busy, and other than the bland and slightly stale-tasting shrimp sashimi, the food was decent. We decided to leave the shrimp sashimi alone, and finished off everything else on the sashimi plate.

We finished our meal and as the waiter was clearing off the table, he started LECTURING us about ordering 10 pieces of sashimi at the same time! We finished everything on the sashimi plate aside from the shrimp, so I explained that the shrimp tasted bland.

He then proceeded on educating us that not everyone liked all kinds of fish and that's why we shouldn't have ordered 10 pieces at one go in a lecturing tone (I've been to this restaurant 5 times already, I KNOW the menu, I've tasted ALL of their fish and I finish off ALL the sashimi every time). He also stated that they didn't have enough sashimi to serve all the customers, and we have depleted them of their sashimi supply by ordering 10 pieces at one go. (Dramatic much?)

I asked if they have changed their sashimi to frozen ones lately, because their sashimi has started to deteriorate, especially the shrimp. The waiter became defensive and started bullsh*tting that all sashimi in Ontario have to be frozen for at least 3 days, (including salmon!!!). BULLSH*T. You’re telling me the Salmon Country has no FRESH SALMON?! Now, I understand that Ontario is far away from Vancouver, but I also know that food freights arrive daily from BC to Ontario, and restaurants willing to pay for elevated food costs for higher food quality will have fresh salmon available. To say that all of Ontario doesn’t have fresh salmon available, was blatant lying.
This waiter lectured his customers on how to order food, and instead of apologizing for the bad food they served (ie. their shrimp), he started fabricating a blatant lie to cover up. This attitude is unacceptable, me and my friends will not be visiting this place again.

  • Picture a really good Mandarin. AYCE with great taste and prices. Yes the service is slow but the place is clean and nice. The food is top notch for ayce. I dare you to find better Thai and Sushi for this price. Lunch is $15 and dinner is $25. Something for everyone and please try the deep fried cheesecake, so good. My fav place for the last year. This place is getting super busy now too. Well done Spoon and Fork
