  • While I am saddened about the fact the restaurant closed down, I would to give my thoughts on the restaurant.

Back when it first opened, I remember coming here and seeing such smiles on the employees as they gave me my sushi. Their food was the top delicious when it opened, but through the years, it slowly decreased. And I came before it closed and the food still taste great after all the years.

I will miss this restaurant as it brought such memories to me.

  • This place is not closed.

I went for my second time, the first time I enjoyed it but the second time immediately after I felt nauseous and began vomiting and severe diarrhea. I have the worst stomach cramps ever. Thanks for the food poisoning.

  • I have visited OKI Sushi off and on for the past two to three years, although my wife and I had not been in about 7 months.

We are so sad to hear it has closed.

The staff and the owner Rebecca in particular were always amazing, helpful and engaging.

    The sushi was always perfect.

I would like to wish Rebecca and her staff best wishes and thank them for always making us feel welcome and special.

OKI Sushi was a great place!

  • I had read the reviews on this site about this restaurant and decided to give it a try. When we walked in, there was nobody there. It is a small place but the decor is nice. There was a stuffed monkey sitting in a chair at the bar, don't know why, but it looked funny! When we were given our menus, we gasped at how expensive the prices were! A small bowl of Miso soup was over $3.00, I've gotten the same thing for $1.50 elsewhere and it tasted better. There were hardly any noodle dishes, only two to choose from. The portion sizes were small and we spend over $70.00 for two people. I have eaten elsewhere and spent less with larger portion sizes. The servers were very nice, and we were even given a free taste of their featured appetizer which I thought was nice. I definitely wouldn't return, but that won't be a problem as the restaurant is closing on October 1, 2011 anyways.

  • My friends from Oakville have been begging me to try OKI for a long time. To be honest, I am more of a McDonald's sort of guy; chicken fingers are the staple to my diet. However, I caved and decided to give OKI a try and am I sure sorry I've declined trying this delicious, high quality sushi for the last while!

From the moment you open the door, you can tell you are not at your “run of the mill” sushi restaurant. OKI is beautifully decorated, which creates a unique, inviting and trendy dining experience. Whether you are dining with a larger group, dining for two or sipping a delicious drink at the authentic bar, you will not be unsatisfied with your spot. The attention to detail paid by the interior designer really shows and even before sitting down I was thoroughly intrigued.

Like I said, I am a very picky eater and was a little hesitant in trying this type of food. However, once the chef created a special hand roll just for my palate – I was immediately hooked! My group and I were luckily enough to be dining at OKI while the owner was working – what a kind, enjoyable and knowledgeable lady! She spent about twenty minutes explaining her passion about fine Japanese cuisine. She continued to make her personal recommendations on dishes I would likely enjoy. My friends and I ordered about five entrees and various appetizers to share amongst the table – I have not one complaint – everything was phenomenal! My favorites were the Edamame, Tokyo Fried Chicken, Chicken Teriyaki and the Tempura Shrimp! The portions were excellent sizes, leaving me a little “extra” to take home. For dessert, we all had the Black Sesame Ice Cream and it was divine! They make the ice cream at OKI and it was delicious. To be honest, I would return just for that and I am about 45 minute commute from OKI!

Like I said, both the owner and chef were very accommodating to my stubborn taste palate. The service at OKI is unparalleled, from the moment our group was seated, Paige, our server was very attentive, which was a quality that did not fade throughout our meal. The high quality food was brought out surprisingly quickly, which was great because once I was hooked; I could not wait for more!

Now that I have expanded my horizons, I will undoubtedly be back for more. I loved my first experience at OKI and I give my highest recommendation to those who are inquiring about spending either a lunch or dinner at this Sushi-gem located in the GTA.

  • Went to Oki for my first time on the recommendation of my daughter, and will definitely be going back regularly now! A perfect venue for a night out. Lovely food for very reasonable prices (very generous slices of fish on the sushi. It was the first time I have seen the fish be draped over the rice like a skirt - was told by the owner that this is the traditional way it is served in Japan.

Relaxed, chic atmosphere and quick service.

To top everything off, I had the black sesame ice cream for dessert which I was honestly a little nervous about trying it, but on recommendations from the server, did try and am glad I did!

It's tucked away from lakeshore (that's maybe why I hadn't heard of it before) so I wanted to share my experience!

  • I have been to Oki for dinner several times now, and each time I have been blown away by the quality of the food and the excellent overall dining experience! A definite must try for those looking for a diverse yet non-intimidating selection of Japanese cuisine.

Ambiance – Tucked away in downtown Oakville, this restaurant has a trendy interior with an authentic atmosphere. I have been here with both my girlfriend and family, and both groups have enjoyed the ambiance. Small patio allows for drinks and food to be enjoyed outside during the warmer summer months.

Service – Staff have generally been attentive and friendly during each of my visits. Like any restaurant, there are occasional delays during busy hours, although this has never been a significant issue during my visits. Most notably, however, is how the owner goes out of her way to ensure your dining experience is an unforgettable one.

Food – Absolutely. Phenomenal. High quality, good quantity, reasonable price. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but you must try the ‘Sexy Hand Rolls’ as an appetizer. They are responsible for inducing a Pavlovian dog-type response whenever I step into Oki. Mango Lobster rolls, Yellow Tail sashimi, and Chicken Teriyaki have all proven to be excellent main courses. Diverse wine selection. Unique and creative deserts, both the red bean and sesame ice cream are highly recommended - so be sure to make room for these. Easily one of the top 5 Japanese restaurants in GTA that I have tried, let alone in the immediate Oakville-Burlington area.

Overall, an excellent restaurant whos food, ambiance and service keeps me coming back for more!
