An excellent restaurant in oakville. They have two sections, a fancy fine dining menu and a more casual menu with an outdoor patio. They have a very good wine list, 2nd best in oakville to olivers and they provide excellent service. Calf liver is sublime, steaks are done perfectly, wide variety of great dishes. I highly recommend this place, and go once a month and never been disappointed.

This is the best restaurant in Oakville bar none and one of the best in the GTA. The food is fabulous, the atmosphere is wonderfully cozy and the service is extremely knowledgeable. They also go out of their way to please when something goes wrong. One time when my steak was overdone, they not only cooked a new steak, my dinner was free as was everyone's dessert.

I've been a regular customer at Jonathan's for the last ten odd years. And in the last 3 years, I've seen the quality of food and service only increase. The wait staff are very friendly and quick to make a joke. They always make myself and my wife feel very welcome, in an industry where genuine personality is hard to come by. And the food speaks for itself. It's honest good food, where a descent portion of foie gras or an adventurious sweetbread appetizer tickles my fancy. The kitchen always keeps me on my toes, I don't know what I will order next! This is a place I look forward to dining with today and in the future!

food was great but the service was lacking in many ways. First my server decided to have a glass of wine at the table next to me while i waited 25 min for a menu. the food took another 30 min to arive but was worth the wait. The chef Kathy Impressed me with her ability to produce amazing food with such -- wait staff to support her. the wine list was overly populated with mainly french wines ( how bout some good local wines ). and when i got the bill $250 iwas shocked!!

THIS PLACE ROCKS .. everything about the bar is in place .. the servers were friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, and the wine list was so extensive .. I had to get the Greek to order for me.. I really think the chef has hit a home run with the last menu.. I can't wait to see what he has in store for the next one .. and the kitchen staff!! everytime I saw that tall, skinny portuegeuse cook walk thru the bar I could tell he had been born for the industry!!!!!!!!

Stay away from the Souffle and Seafood Bar, which is the other, less expensive part of the restaurant. It was by far one of the worst dining experiences in my life. The service was terrible (it took almost an hour to get our food and the waiter didn't even ask us how everything was). The bread was stale and the souffles were so bland we had a hard time forcing them down. The only reason I ate mine at all was because I had just come from a hard workout at the gym and I was starving. I'm no chef and frankly, the souffle I tried to make at home one day was ten times better! It was a total disappointment and I would never go back! I probably won't even try the main restaurant. If you want a great place to eat in downtown Oakville, go to Seasons. I wish we had last night!

I read the previous review and felt compelled to say that all my dinners have been wonderful experiences at Jonathans.
I am a regular at Jonathans. Without getting wordy, here is why I believe Jonathans is Oakville''s Finest:
*Consistent quality of freshly prepared and innovative dishes.
*Private Dining Rooms for both small & large groups.
*Intimate tables for special occasions.
*A very busy, yet fun and casual Bistro area.
*Friendly and attentive service.
*One of the most extensive wine lists anywhere in the area.
Jonathans is busy everytime I go there. It is the place where the ''who''s who'' and corporate leaders in Oakville dine. It is an impressive place worth visiting.
One other thing to mention:
JMP''s review mentioned they ate ''Prime Rib'' at Jonathans...I don''t think so...Jonathans has never served prime rib, I think JMP got the wrong restaurant.
MW''s review mentioned they had a ''Fixed Menu'', Ithink that they reviewed the wrong restaurant as well. - Order: Truffled Scallops with Lentils, House Cured Duck Proscuito, NY Steak, Rack Of Lamb

Looks can be deceiving. What appeared as an elegant Roman Cathedral straight out of the 16th century, turned out to be an old building with squeaky old chairs and tables placed so closely together you could share your neighbors appetizers while you wait an hour for your own to arrive. With sub par food and servers complaining about how tired they are of working here, its a mystery as to how this place has been here so long.
The worst part of the evening was the sad arrival of the bill. A ridiculous amount of money for food thats no better then Big Mac and fries. Despite customers paying so much, you would image that the owners would be willing to compensate their overcharged customers with perhaps some air conditioning in the disgustlying hot and dingy smelling restaurant, or maybe the owners could pay for an employee lounge so I don't have to watch some bald headed dirty looking guy smoking his lungs away in front of me, and not to my surprise, it was the head or should I saying questionable chef.
And finally, the best part of the evening was unquestionably the departure. I only recommend this restaurant if you want to leave angry.

For one of the busiest nights of the year, Valentine's Day, there was only one waiter for nine tables in our area. As a result the level of service was lacking. We overheard other dinners complaining about the lack of service as well.
The food was good, but my 'medium' steak was bright red inside and as the waiter was never around I could not have it cooked correctly.
We were disapointed.
